India [232/4] beat New Zealand [230/9] by 6 wickets to win 2nd ODI in Pune

New Zealand opt to bat after winning toss

I am here to just make one statement because since morning there has been some news which is appearing on the television on a very disturbing subject. So I have to tell that the MCA, of course the BCCI too, along with the Committee of the Administrators (CoA) have zero tolerance on such subjects, so MCA will be making a detailed enquiry on what has happened or what has appeared on the television. But before we have our urgent meeting, in the capacity of the MCA President, I have taken Mr. Salgaoncar under suspension with immediate effect, and all his work has been withdrawn, including his basic membership with the MCA has been withdrawn. The ICC observer has approved the pitch, the match will start on schedule: Abhay Apte, MCA President.

    Teams:
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni(w), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal

New Zealand (Playing XI): Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson(c), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham(w), Henry Nicholls, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Trent Boult

Apparently a good toss to win.

Hopefully make use of it and seal the series here.

NZ should've batted second in my opinion. Last time India chased 350 down in Pune after being 60 odd for 4. The wicket actually gets better in the evening. Even Virat mentioned this in the toss interview. I think NZ has put themselves under pressure to score 300+ here.

Might not be a bad call. This looks like a 350 pitch and Kuldeep could've gone for plenty. Axar will provide that economy that Kuldeep won't. This seems to be a match where batting will win you the game.

Arguable that, considering he was carted around in the only ODI game we lost against Aus ~ http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/1...dia-odi-series

Kuldeep didn;t play & we lost, Axar couldn;t keep the runs down nor pick up wickets, he seems clueless when the batters go after him. He needs to evolve like Jadeja at his peak, not saying that RJ is doing too well in LO atm but he's evolved multiple times over his career & is our most prized test asset.

Getting out to pretty innocuous deliveries.

Yep. Was a strange decision to bat first. This is definitely a 320+ pitch but by batting first, NZ put themselves under enormous pressure to score 320+.

NZL batting was shambolic. Trying to overattack instead of playing like the last game, with patience and try to spend time at the crease. They are 60 runs short here this is 300 run pitch. Unless nzl bowlers delivers it is unlike win for nzl they have this great chance to win the series. Willlaimson is a big disappointment so far.

For India the run rate may never be an issue rather keeping wickets in hand.

Karthik is decent. But he is not a match winner like Dhawan. So it all depends on Dhawan from here on.

If Kiwis get Dhawan here, they should be favorites. Dhoni will only come and increase the Required RR to 7 and then gets out.

One thing is sure. Karthik looks more assured than Jadhav.

Because he is considered a hack at Test level. Some posters have hard time understanding the difference between the 2 formats.

Dhawan is a top quality batsman on flat surfaces. In ODI's, he is a must for India. Not sure about him playing T20's. He is not a good T20 player. In ODI's, he is a beast.

Once again it looks like Dhawan is hiding the pathetic middle order of India.

Nobody has faith in MSD's batting except the captain/coach and selectors.

Ideally MSD should bat at no.8. He is a total tailender. I would trust someone like Shami to hit a few biggies than MSD at this point.

MSD is relying on his brand power. The only way he will leave the scenes is when he retires.

Once again it looks like Dhawan is hiding the pathetic middle order of India.
Dhawan is a clutch player too. Unfortunately, he got out and this match isn't all over yet for kiwis.

BK should bat ahead of Dhoni.

The last time both BK and Dhoni batted together, it was BK who took the match by its scruff and guided india to victory. MSD was a spectator at the other end.

Pandya gone. Poor shot. Could hae hit that full toss for a six. Instead he chose to sweep it.

Useful quick fire 30 from Pandya.

All set for MSD to score 10* and show his worth.

Why doesn’t India give Hardik an extended run at 4? He’s a proper batsman

He is still a fledgeling batsman with a great upside. He should be coming in at 6 for the most part. If India needs quick runs, then they can promote him.

As of now, he is not a proper No.4. You need someone like KL Rahul manning that spot. I would even prefer Rahane if it means kicking out Jadhav.

He will choke come big games. He deserves a chance though and so far he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Pandey totally blew the chance he got against a weak Lankan attack.

Tomorrow's newspaper headlines after this knock from karthik. Not good for India now because karthik has now become the no.4 in odis for us.

I don't mind Karthik in the team as long as Rahul comes in for Jadhav.

    Our batting lineup would be

    Dhawan
    Rohit
    Kohli
    Rahul
    Karthik
    Pandya
    BK/Dhoni
    Dhoni/BK
    Krunal

Not a bad batting lineup. Better than having Jadhav who is a total hack.

So after Dhoni and Jadhav, we have Karthik in middle order to tuk tuk

This Indian team is heading the way it was in 90s. Sachin or burst. Now its Kohli or burst.

I really hope SA give this pathetic Indian team beating of a life time #6-0. I hope Morkel and Co ends the Dhoni's career for good.

So we have Dhoni in a team as specialist Keeper
Jadhav in a team for some unknown reasons
Karthik recalled to team to suck the momentum(as if the above two weren't enough)

Whereas potential batsmen like KL Rahul, Pant, S Iyer are rotting in domestics.

Worse time to be an Indian fan
