Harsh to drop a youngster after a ton and a 40-odd. We've seen youngsters being dropped before for returning seniors and it hasn't been nice. Aamer Yamin, Sami Aslam have been examples.

That said, good to see Azhar score a ton and if he performs well against NZ, then no complaints, especially considering how his last ODI outing was also a successful one.

For many years, this is probably the strongest PAK tail (bottom half), but that won't help much if 3, 4, 5 fails like this. Also, it's becoming alarming that Babar loses it almost every time spinners come, that too offie!!!

I don't think there is any pace and bounce on this wicket. Even if it is there, the bowling attack is not that threatening to trouble any international team. By the way Malik got out to MD Craig, who is a offspinner.

Lol bro did you even watch his dismissal before commenting? Big problem of Shobby is that he always looks to hit the ball in the air instead of playing grounded shots.

This series is a big test for Fakhar, and one that will ultimately decide whether he is international quality or not.
Sharjeel was probably the cleanest hitter we had this decade but Fakhar isn't the explosive type who likes to smash sixes like Sharjeel. Fakhar should hold himself to play a similar game style to Warner who not only rotates strike but likes to hit a boundary every few balls or so. The reason I compared Fakhar to Sharjeel is only because Fakhar's technical flaws should shortly be sorted out allowing him to be a more controlled player.

SRL is going through the old Bangladesh syndrome these days, that's drop proper spinners and pick darters, who can bat a bit, for that it's not conclusive against Lankans. Also, that was a team without Captain, bowlers, batsmen & fielders, just 11 men going through the motions. In this series, BA'll face Santner, to prove his improvement. He struggles BIG time in Test against Herath & Perera.

It's disappointing to see Sarfraz in the shape he is right now. He is a capable batsman yet his fitness lets him down. That previous dismissal was solely due to his imbalance during the shot. It's time he puts in some serious work off the field to justify his batting ability.

In that case, he has to dial down on the unhealthy eating habits. As a player simply, he has to prioritize fitness and proper diet. On top of that, he is the captain thus bearing more responsibility to set the bar high.

Something isn't right, they came at 200/2 or so and both set batsmen retired out - then Babar & MoHa decided to enjoy their time. Malik got out to 2nd ball, but those 2 played 24 balls without any boundary - this attitude'll cost some close match while chasing. It doesn't build pressure batting first, but when the asking is 5.5+, such 4/5 overs means it'll blow to 7 and then every team will find it behind the clock.

Almost every other top 8 team would have reached close to 400 today - it's a habit, not about caring. PAK middle order just isn't willing to hit boundaries between 11th-40th overs. This is because the type of players picked, not because of incapability (today they are playing mostly against club bowlers, capability isn't any issue). Azhar, Babar, MoHa, Malik, Sarfraz are not smooth starters, they need little time to go after. May be 1/2, at most 3 can work - 5 in a row is stereo type, better teams'll expose it most days.

Imad or Nawaz is a redundant pick in ODI - their job can easily be managed by FZ or Hari. MS used to get 5/6 overs from Sehwag and later Raina.

Poor performance from the kids, they should look to bat the overs and get close to 300 as possible.

Kohli would have scored close to 200+ against these kids if given the chance. You just need to look at their records to see how inexperienced they are.

Most of them have barely played any FC cricket, they're there because the others are still in the middle of the Super Smash tournament, in the Black Cas squad or are part of the U19 WC squad.

175/7 against an international side is a pretty good effort by the kids.

Super Smash, U19 WC and T20 series against WI which we're trying a few players.

If they can get the margin down under 100, that would be huge for them.

Even if you and me play against an International team, we could score 20 - 25 runs each. These are players, not gods. We expect them to beat rookies but it would be unfair to expect them to destroy the inexperienced teams for 50 or 100 all out everytime.

Pakistan's top order batsmen roared into gear in their cricket tour opener, with openers Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali each scoring centuries in their mammoth total of 341-9 in Nelson.

In their only 50-over warmup match before Saturday's first one-day international against New Zealand in Wellington, Pakistan showed their readiness batting first against a New Zealand XI made up of players not required for the Twenty20 Super Smash competition.

Left-handed Zaman slayed 106 off 84 balls before retiring, hitting 12 fours and three sixes in an opening stand with Azhar worth 206 in 29 overs.

Azhar Ali hit the ground running in Nelson with a century against a New Zealand XI, and a 206-run opening stand with Fakhar Zaman.

Azhar was more measured, hitting 104 off 105 balls before also departing for the Saxton Oval pavilion to give his team-mates an opportunity at the crease.

Allrounder Hasan Ali, the world's top-ranked ODI bowler who starred in Pakistan's Champions Trophy victory in June, whacked 36 off 15 balls at the end, including four sixes.

Former test offspinner Mark Craig (2-51 off 10) was the pick of the NZ XI bowlers while another spinner, Auckland's Aniket Parikh, had the most success with 3-74 off 10.

The selection XI faced a tough chase against Pakistan's strong bowling attack and required a run rate of 6.84 per over to reach their target of 342.
