Well....Bhuvi, Bumrah and Pandya all have sub 30 bowling averages at the moment! With Shami's average hovering just around 30....

Ashwin already has a sub 30 average. Who would have thought this with the reputation our bowlers have earned over the years..

A quick fire inns from dharwan or pandya and a large chuck of total will be wiped out. Plenty time to knock runs off as well.

Dhawan wont sit there and defend. He will throw his bat at everything. The longer he stays, the faster the runs will come. Saffers will have to take Dhawan out very quickly.

I have a lot of bad memories about India's small chases. The (in) famous 97 AO chasing 120 immediately comes to my mind...

How I hope that would not be the case today....cmon boys. We might never get such a chance again..Pls pull this off for simple fans like yours truly.

Don't get this, this has been entertaining and quick with great cricket played, barring may be 3-4 of the 30 wickets it has been down to some great bowling aided by a spicy pitch and we have seen some good batting innings from likes of abd and pandya

    In Tailunt we believe.

On a serious note, this test will be a test of Kohli's nerves. The bowlers have put them in a winning position, & being the best batsman in the team, he will have to lift his game.

With Dhawan there, they will at least have someone scoring from one end. Vijay is an accumulator and won't be one to set the pace.

The issue for India will be if Dhawan gets out quickly, and then you have Vijay and Pujara blocking it out for a while, sucking all momentum out of the chase.

Interesting to see what Kohli will do in that instance...I can see him or someone else (Sharma) moving up to 3 if Dhawan does indeed fall early.

Better this time but not by much won't get more than a 5.

They also have rabada, philander and morkel a pace trio rivalled only by Australia's trio and a spinner who seems decent in not so helpful conditions and we are playing with 5 batsman 2 of whom are Rohit and dhawan.

You mean Indian batting is so poor that they cant score 200 runs against an attack which has lost their frontline bowler?

Depends on how pitch is for this session. It looked helpful in morning but not sure how it will play now. Vijay Pujara and Kohli are important wickets. If Dhawan gives 30 - 40 runs quick start that might help alot.

No offence but Steyn is 4th best bowler in this match.. Ofcourse his loss will hurt SA but that is because it will put more burden on Rabada and Others..

So now you direct posters who to reply and who not to reply? Go baby sit someone else. We are just having a discussion. Thats what people do on a cricket forum if you dont know that.

It is obviously a big achievement to win in SA looking at the overall test match.

Morkel can make or break this game. If he is his mediocre self, he can win the game for India. However, if he gets his radar right which he does every now and then, he can seriously jolt India.

This is definitely the worst top 5 we have played in a long while. But thanks to Ashwin, Pandya and Bhuvi, we are effectively still a par batting line-up.

Think Steyn has been out for such a long time, that he no longer qualifies as the front-line bowler.

The pace trio that SA have + Maharaj on a pitch that is offering uneven bounce is more than capable enough to take 10 Indian wickets in the 4th innings. Its the Indian batting that will have to lift themselves a gear. Dhawan, Kohli and Sharma - technique suspect against the moving ball. Out of the 3, only Kohli has the class to overcome it.

As some other posters mentioned, puts a lot of pressure on Pujara and Vijay. And on this pitch, you are never really in, can get out anytime with a ball that has your name on it.

Would back SA here 9 times out of 10. What is critical for India is the start. If they can make 20 overs with only 2 down max, they still have a chance. Otherwise game over.

If these batters go into their shell, they won't get anywhere & probably get out. They have to keep rotating the strike or else India will get into a hole.

You had Sachin, Dravid, VVS, Sehwag who are better than the current crop of players so obviously compared to them it will be a weaker batting line up.. Having said that the current players have something which past players only had in times of luxury a good bowling attack as a pack..

Well if Dhawan makes a flashy 30+ innings and Rohit involves in an easy unbeaten winning partnership with Kohli (in fact if we win this match), then we may well go in with the same XI for rest of the series! Does it help it in the long run (following the next overseas tours and rather rest of this series itself!) Not that I want to lose this match!

Morkel is going to win it for India. I said it from the start. If Kohli starts believing, the whole team starts doing the same. His expressions tell the whole story. plus the review taken. I was actually laughing when someone said that Indias chances are gone with the rain. All it has done is increased.

Absolutely, that is why we have hopes this year (good bowling attack). But we shouldn't get carried away and make crap selections like this match and be happy because some guys punched above their weights (Pandya) and South Africa miscalculated (even the decision at toss was poor)

So basically this is a fight between Indian batsman's ability to screw up and fate which clearly wants us to win. Let's see who wins

Easy win for India. South Africa as usual choked under pressure made Bumrah, Shami, Pandya and Kumar like Walsh, Mcgrath, Wasim and Marshall

SA playing with 3 bowlers. Don't think Maharaj would be useful on this track. This has to be a complete choke from India for SA to win this.

This could be one of the great Tests. Spicy pitch, momentum swinging back and forth, and a tense finale.

Compare this to the absolute rubbish we've seen in Australia in the last three years, and in the recent Ashes, on lifeless, flat decks where batsmen are plundering runs at will.

    Pressure is on.

A real challenge for Kohli here (I don't think he had anything like this before, chasing in a test match). Can he pull it off like he does in LOIs (has done that even outside India) Can he overcome the moving ball & the additional pressure of Test Cricket?

How much we are missing Rahul here, he might have got that 50 with controlled aggression which would have been GOLD here! Vijay was more comfortable with Rahul as opener (who used to see of good balls & attack bad ones)

He did against Sri Lanka with prime Malinga in Australia if that's not quality! (Of course as mentioned in ODI)

Indian batsmen should remember that South Africa are playing with 3 seamers here... Need to find a way to tire the bowlers not just by blocking or not by just blind attacking (though its difficult on this pitch with bowler gaining confidence every time it assists them!)
