    Virat Kohli's behaviour as captain

We have this thread for Sarfaraz so we need one for Kohli.

Seeing him in media interactions etc. prior to the SA series, I thought he had mellowed down a lot. He has still matured but is prone to taking the bait such as when the journalist recently questioned him about the Indian playing XI.

Similarly, on the field, some of his celebrations during the SA series were a little over the top and he also received a demerit point for misbehaving with the umpires.

Ian Healy last year called his behaviour 'unacceptable'. http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/...06-gurrb6.html

Sunil Gavaskar also questioned his behaviour. https://www.mykhel.com/cricket/3rd-t...ur-007977.html

    Thoughts?

I love the reaction he did towards crowd after SA innings finished. Nothing over the top but still great 😝, Problem is sarfaraz rile up his team mates, but kohli unites his teammates against opposition. Still he needs to little calm for his own sake

I think it is OK .... some guys get wound up too tight .... specially if he is a Captain .... and even specially if he is 0-2 in a 3 Match Series !!!! In the end though, everything gets reset to zero again in a day or two !!!! What fun it would be, if after winning, the Team walks off the field as if they are just returning from a Funeral ???

This is the biggest myth about Sarfaraz. Sarfaraz has performed with the bat in 2 games on this tour. He will obviously not be super consistent like Kohli.

I don't think anybody will disagree that I support the Indian team, I have to say that Kohli's behavior should change for the better. It is one thing to be aggressive and relentless, but one can also be polite and well-mannered at the same time. People will only think better of him if he changes.

Most of his aggression is reserved for opposing players and umpires.

Could be toned down but it's a part of his aura/greatness. It seems that's how he gets his head in the game.

Loving his attitude, he is a rare breed. Will take this team to new heights.

Never saw a captain gesturing and mocking the spectators like kholi does. Any self respecting fan would be embarrassed of kholi's behaviour, but the ones with deep seated inf complex and those little ones who beat their tiny chests have found a release with kholi's antics.

Utterly disgraceful and a shame that this guy is a captain. Uncouth and classless.

No, I have him for his classless behaviour. If it was just about calibre, I would be hating Smith and ABDV. Maybe this is another trait of the fans who thump their tiny chests that they hate players who are more skilled than their rockshtars.

Heart on your sleeve and all that is fine. But Kohli needs to simmer down and practice some self-control.

Although I do believe there's been a lot of things said to him by the crowd, as well as the South Africans, during this Test and ODI series.

I have not seen him THIS worked up in a while.

Hate his over the top celebrations after a wicket. Send-offs are childish. There is no pride in saying vile stuff to someone who is already out. Maybe if there is some history between two players, but even then, better to just celebrate with your team mates. Too good and big a player to be indulging in all this. Hopefully, it stops soon. He would probably be more revered and respected if he was more graceful and mature in the field. In the end, this hurts him more than anybody. As soon as his form weakens, he becomes an easy target.

Looking at his body language, it seems something happened which we are not aware of.

It’s ok for bowlers to give send off and use F words but a captain of a performing team can’t? When Ponting used to do such things, he was called aggressive but no one complained coz they were unbeatable that time.

People need to comment about his performance and captaincy skills rather than his behavior.

I'd love to have a captain like him in my team. He never backs off. Why would he? He knows that he's currently the best batsman in the world and just one good world cup away form becoming the greatest batsman of all time.

Why will he let other players to get away by sledging him who aren't even half the player he is. Next time when he'll visit Australia, aussies will think twice before sledging him because he showed them the last time who's the real boss.

I don't see the issue with Kohli celebrating the way he did. For one, an away ODI series win was at stake, secondly, he has the sand to back his mouth and aggression with the bat.

Though anyone playing Poker will tell you, he was under pressure.

    Enjoy the moment.

He does use the same insult every-time I've seen him get animated...Nothing wrong with celebrations, just watch the lingo. No need to use profanities like that.

When our players do it, I feel cringed and embarrassed by it. There's no need.

That reaction from Kohli does not seem directed towards a player. It seems to be either spectators or media. And it is quite funny.

You'll never see VK direct any bad behavior towards his own team though.

He is not behind the stump mic otherwise you wouldn't be saying that. Many times Kohli is seen mouthing off at his teammates for bad bowling, missfields and dropped chances.

That is where Sarfaraz beats Kohli by miles. Kohli will never mouth off at bowlers for bad bowling though he gets upset for misfields and dropped catches, it's quite obvious by his body language.

    Thoughts?

Just because he is from the subcontinent, he isn't allowed to be aggressive?

He is like a Viking berserker who lifts himself and his team with these so called antics. So tough luck that some people don't like it!

Virat is a good man in general. He does need to mature a bit now being captain and stop sticking his tongue out at opponents or making other silly gestures. He can learn a lot from former captain Dhoni in this regard. MS never acted like this at all.

Why will he let other players to get away by sledging him who aren't even half the player he is. Next time when he'll visit Australia, aussies will think twice before sledging him because he showed them the last time who's the real boss.

IIRC just before last AUS test tour of India ... many OZ ex cricketers advising against taunting Kohli to avoid making him angry and perform even better #Hulk #Don'tMake'mAngry

That is the respect you get from opposition by playing hard and bold ....not by being politically good sissy captain

I've said this before, Kohli uses these things to get his mind into the game.

Kind of like he's in a battle against the opposition.

These guys play far too many matches and that's one way to pump yourself up. Clearly works because the man performs like a machine with the bat.

Think he's been extra worked up in this series because he'll FINALLY be able to shut some critics up about India's away record. Nevertheless it's childish attitude but the fact he does it shows how much he cares about his team. Sarfaraz imo handles the aggression better since he directs the aggression at his own team mates who are all friends with him rather than doing what kohli does and risk entering the demerit points territory.

Imran Khan is still remembered as best captain by many the way he created fear in opposition camp.

Kohli is nowhere near cornered tiger but will do for us as is now. He should be careful in not crossing the line and getting ban in important matches ..

I use to admire in 90's always wish we should have someone like him to lead us #WishComeTrue

PS: Not saying Imran was as arrogant as Kohli ..Please note, cheers.

The response of Indian fans in this should really teach a few of the Pakistani fans on this forum a lesson to be honest. No matter what the antics of their captain on the field, they defend him through thick and thin. God forbid, if Sarfraz was upto such shenanigans, he would have been outlawed and his posters would have been burnt in public. Such is the decency and hypocrisy of Pakistani fans.

Support your own. Stop devaluing your players. When you bash your own players mercilessly, owing to massive inferiority complexes, why do you expect fans of other countries to respect your cricketers?

With respect to the thread, good on Virat Kohli. Too many nice guys in cricket nowadays.

if we don't support our own captain how can u expect from others.

I do agree Kohli goes over board sometimes ...When Ricky Ponting was doing the same, we most desis admired him.

Yes that's true but you could always apologise to them in the locker room since they are your own team mates. We haven't seen too much rebellion in Pakistani camp except for Hasan's little act, which they media and posters here blew out of proportion anyways. Both India and Pakistan seem united under their captains so far.

Agreed ..Brother ..Let's not devalue our captains. Let's support our captains to do good in SENA and change the perception #Cheers
