Looks like dravid is the main key factor of the development of young indian batsman. BCCI made one good decision in this case.

Just a question. Who can perform the same role for pakistan? Pakistani players gloats a lot about their achievement and in turn, it does alienate them.

Younis Khan is as skilled as the wall. But the difference is the personalities.

After this world cup ideal to replace middle order with these 3.

Middle order is weak, you can't rely on Sharma scoring century all the time.

I think they had a look in the NZ series and he failed to capitalize. They were desperate to fill that No.4 slot and even he was under consideration.

Just enough to look for another option for no.4 for the WC. There weren't many games left after NZ series to pick the WC squad. Also it's not about the runs you make. It's about how you do. Tbh, Gill didn't look good technically. Hope he gets better as he's a good talent.

No. He was a bit nervous making debut. Pretty much every commies and other cricketers who have seen him consider him as a special. He is technically a very good player. If you look at in isolation neither Rohit nor Dhawan were good too. What about Kohli in the semi, CT final. Playing right across the line each time and getting out.

I have a feeling this bunch of selectors think only middle order batsmen can do well in middle order.

What happens is most of these probables (Shaw, Agarwal, Gill etc) are their teams best batsmen when playing for Under 19s, A and emerging teams.

And as is the tendency these days, every team plays its top batsmen in top 3. These people end up either opening or coming at 3.

Most domestic teams have experienced/ washed out guys at numbers 4 or 5 to protect from any collapse.

Age group teams fill these spots with sedate accumulators for this reason only.

Numbers 6, 7 are normally allrounder/wicket keeper slots.

I think only this can explain pathetic picks from selectors like Rayudu, Shankar and Karthik.

Kohli and Rohit don't bowl anymore. Dhawan's action is banned. This means Jadhav, who wouldn't have found a spot in the weak 90s Indian team (because everybody bowled in that team) is considered important.

Gill, Shaw, Nitish Rana, Mavi, Riyan Parag, Iyer, Nagarkoti, Markande... should all get a chance in the next 2 years.

These 2 Kohli & Shastri are so bloody clueless that it beggars belief these 2 occupy 2 of the highest positions in Indian cricket. And that after such a disaster of just finished WC campaign. No, reaching semis wasn't an achievement as Kohli would like us to believe.

God save Indian cricket from these imbeciles.

I wonder what's the point of Kedar in Indian team.

His batting as has been proved in the highest form of ODI cricket, is useless. His fielding & fitness, less said better it is.

His bowling is cannon fodder. Or does he have compromising pics of Shastri & Kohli?

My blood boils not to see this kid in Indian team in all formats and instead seeing nobodies like Rahul, Kedar etc.

Even Rohit & Dhawan are additional to our current requirements in WI. They (and more importantly India) won't gain anything out of this trip if they continue to behave like leeches.

We've already seen how badly has this move of backing just these 2 for openers have hurt us in WC just gone by.

He will get the chance. His batting position will always be in top 4.

So,his competitor is Rahul and Iyer, not Kedhar. But personally, they gotta move from Kedar. You backed him for years, then dont back him in WC matches at all, and now you again on to it..What kind of non-sense going is it?

India should keep these names in reckoning for squad from now on:-

    Batsmen:-

    Rohit
    Dhawan
    kohli
    Rahul
    Gill
    Iyer
    Pant

    ALL-Rounders:-

    Krunal
    Hardik
    Jadeja

    Bowlers:-

    Bhuvi
    Shami
    Khaleel
    Kuldeep
    Chahal
    Bumrah

So, move on from Karthik, kedhar, Shankar and Manish Pandey as well.

I saw his batting, does not inspire a whole lot of confidence. I also think Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey are ahead of him and will be given opportunities. There are other batsmen in first class who are better than this guy I feel.

Unlike overhyped Chand, Zol and Samson... Gill is actually impressive. Also he looks kinda like a female so I don't mind watching him.

He is better than Shaw and will be the mainstay of our batting in the near future. Although what really concerns me is India is yet to find a replacement for Yuvraj/Raina. We need Yuvi Raina type players in the middle order who at their peak could play patiently but explode when needed.

You need a visit to an optometrist, its your vision rather than his batting that is the problem.

Don't think he is a Kohli as some people have tried to suggest, but he is very good based on U19 WC stuff. But does it really matter what we all think. The way selections have been happening, think I'm reaching the point of not caring anymore.

Gill has first-class avg of 83.31 at S/R of 76.38
He should be India's No.5 ahead of Rahane/Vihari/Rohit

Rahane is pathetic for at least 2 years now, except for a few decent innings. WI tests should be his LAST chance, whether he is Kohli's deputy, doesn't matter.

Vihari - Is still new, should get more chances.

Rohit - Should never be part of any test team.

Agreed. But under circumstances Rohit may not be dropped.
