"Would be an honour for anyone if given opportunity to coach national or Under19 side" : Younis Khan

Former Pakistan batsman, Younis Khan, speaking on TV:

"Anyone who is offered this opportunity (to coach Pakistan U19) will be ready (and willing) take this job"

"It is a big honour for a person if he can do some service for the Pakistan team at any level, be it U19 or the national team."

"I am very much against this ( mentality of pointing out the problems in the team) only when the team starts to lose"

"I am shocked to see that when the team is winning then most of us don't think about how they can still improve."

"If we look at the previous U19 Asia Cup, Rahul dravid was also there as coach but India wasn't able to get very far into the tournament"

"Nevertheless, India didn't remove any one (coaching staff) from the team"

"Careful planning needs to be done for these U19 teams"

"We see how India has Rahul Dravid and when I looked at the England dugout, I saw Jonathan Trott, who has been a top player for England"

"Look, they have a proper system in play in those countries"

"If I was with the team at the moment and we had still lost to India, and of course I wouldn't have been able to go play with the team in the ground"

"Would same (negative) things be said about me as well now?"

"Would they be saying, Younis Khan has not been able to deliver despite taking so much money and being such a big name"

"We have to talk about the system."

"What I see now is that we were criticising the national team before but now they have won the T20I series against New Zealand we have become content"

"Now we are talking about the U19 team and saying that they have bad players"

"Those who dislike the management are talking about management, and those who are against selectors are saying selectors are not good"

"This should not happem. This is a young team from our country and we should give them encouragement at this time"

With this statement Younis Khan surpass all our greats who only know how to blab in front of TV instead of working hard behind the scene.

So called legend Miandaud can learn something from Younis instead of asking for high position in PCB but didn't do anything except collecting pay cheque

And that is why Younis won't be a good role model for the youngsters. Too much of a drama queen.

I hope he is sincere, most ex cricketers see the U19 and most coaching jobs as a paid holiday.

YK is always the first one to take the moral high ground but rarely follows through

he once said that after retirement he will disappear from public life and retreat to Steel town to coach and mentor young kids.

Put Misbah in that position. He will do the job for Pakistan without dragging the media into it.

Looks like Dravid has made U19 job cool to ex Pakistan cricketers. No one would have come within a 100 miles of it a month ago.

If he becomes a successful coach at u19 level, plus becoming the head coach of Peshawar in Psl and managing things decently, he will surely be the favorite to replace Mickey Arthur when he's gone.

Perhaps YK read "The Prince" during his retirement?

Read the article again - nowhere did YK mentions he is interested in the job.

In fact he talks the entire time in the 2nd person narrative...

Rumours are he might be coaching India after 2019 WC if they don't win it - source: TBC.

If he becomes a fusion of Machiavelli and Edmond Dantes from The Count of Monte Cristo, it will be an interesting time for Pakistan Cricket.

That's a third person narrative. Not a second person.

And using a third person narrative is generally used in literature to put forward a sublime message across via others though its the wish of the narrator.

Why doesn't Younis Khan approach Najam Sethi and request for this honor if he is so keen? Why should the PCB and Najam Sethi be so keen on Younis Khan when there are other potential candidates and when YK has proven to be a drama queen his entire career as far as interpersonal skills are concerned?

He should coach regional under 19 team first; Karachi or Peshawar for instance and show the big boss his worth. Having said that he did a great job with UBL as a kind of coach cum player in the departmental one day cup.

Well then you haven't heard Younis during the time of his retirement. He clearly said he would rather want to work with an U19 side than with the senior team. He wants to work at grass roots and provide a finished product to the senior side.

Considering we don;t have lot of choices, I won;t mind YK takes over coaching role for under 19. He has lots to offer . You need a lots of patience while training youngster and Younis is not famous for being a cool and calm person, a bit short tempered, but no one is perfect.
