Ofcourse, they should enforce the follow-on.

This is not Australia/South Africa/England. If it was these three teams, then should have batted again and put them into submission.

hey are good enough for T20 only. They are even playing this test as a T20 match,no singles...just 6,4,out.Ireland are way better. They showed temperament and patience in their 1st test which is the key in a Test match.
Ireland were in it till the 5th day.If India had not batted first, the Test match would have been over on day1 only.

    This is quite sad.

Cricket, and test cricket in particular, needs more teams to be competitive in order to ensure it has a long term future.

Need Afghanistan to show some fight, and make sure that they themselves carry on believing that they can succeed at Test Cricket eventually. Otherwise we may see a team who has been admitted into Test Cricket, and find themselves focusing solely on the shorter forms because it offers easier chances of success and money as well.

Bangladesh came in at a point where these T20 leagues didn't exist, and Test Cricket was still seen as important. To succeed at it probably became a matter of principle. Afghanistan are entering at a different time, and have a cricketing culture geared towards the short form.

'A dream come true for our nation' – Yamin Ahmadzai

"In the second session, we went with another plan, which was a bit defensive and we were more successful,” said Afghanistan's first wicket-taker in Tests.

Afghanistan’s first day of Test cricket was a day of two parts.

In the first session at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday, 14 June, they were on the back foot as India, led by Shikhar Dhawan, milked them for 158 runs in an unbroken first-wicket stand.

Their position at tea was little better, having seen the back of Dhawan. Yet Murali Vijay and KL Rahul had no difficulty in scything through the field to get to 248/1.

It took a rain break and a change in strategy for them to fight back in the game. In the final session, India added only 99 runs, losing five quick wickets to go to stumps on 347/6.

Yamin Ahmadzai, who bowled Afghanistan’s first over in Test cricket and took their first wicket when he sent back Dhawan, admitted it was a day of both enjoyment and “a little bit stress”.

“Yes, there were some nerves early on,” he told presspersons. “In the first session we gave them too many loose balls. In the second session we tried to limit the loose balls, and it worked.

“We gripped the game and we started to go with another plan, which was a little bit defensive and we were successful in that.”

Yamin Ahmadzai became Afghanistan's first wicket-taker in Tests Yamin Ahmadzai became Afghanistan's first wicket-taker in Tests

Captain Asghar Stanikzai’s advice to his bowlers was to keep things simple. “He told us that the bowlers should try to stop runs, don’t try too many things, don’t chase wickets,” said Ahmadzai, who finished the day with 2/32 in his 13 overs.

Rashid Khan, No.1 on the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Rankings for bowlers, was perhaps the big beneficiary of this advice. In his first 10-over spell, he conceded 75 runs. In his last spell, a change of ends and approach worked well for him.

“At the beginning he was trying too hard,” said Ahmadzai. “At the end, he tried to bowl wicket to wicket and he believed in himself. The ball was also gripping good.”

After a tough couple of sessions first up, Rashid Khan came back strong in the last to end the day on a high.

Their initiation to Test cricket was a tough one for the Afghans, and they admitted it was a learning experience playing against the No.1 Test team. Yet, there was a lot for them to take away from the day, not least the pride of wearing those bright red caps.

“This was a dream come true for our nation,” explained Ahmadzai. “Getting a Test cap is the most important thing [for a cricketer]. And it was the same for me – I can’t put it in words.

“Playing in India with India, the No.1 team, was a good experience. There are still four days to go. We will try to do our best.”

After IPL, Afghanistan should hae played at least a couple of 3 day practice matches. As an inexperienced side, adjusting to Tests was always going to be difficult.

Hopefully they play a full series vs Ireland, Zimbabwe and then BD soon with enough practice matches.

Nothing to be ashamed of. They will get better at Tests like they have un ODIs and t20.

Surely Afghanistan can bat better than this atrocious display.

Yes India were always going to win this Test but you'd want to see some discipline and application.

I agree with the above post. Afghanistan were only in Division 5 playing Jersey 10 years ago so this is an enormous leap they're making. They need regular Tests vs WI, SL, BD and ZIM now.

Former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has said that though Afghanistan are a good side, the International Cricket Council 's (ICC) decision to give them Test status at such initial stage was a 'hasty' one.

Azharuddin's comment comes in the light of Afghanistan's crushing defeat by an innings and 262 runs at the hands of top-ranked India in their maiden Test match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Talking to ANI, the 55-year-old said, "Afghanistan are good as a team but there is a difference between playing a one-day international and a Test match. I believe the ICC has taken a hasty decision giving them the Test status. The team should have been given more time. They experienced an embarrassing defeat against India. They were dismissed twice in a day."

The former cricketer further believes that the historic Test would be a learning curve for the Afghanistan side, adding that the Asghar Stanikzai-led side should now focus on working harder and improving their game.

"They will have to play more matches in future. This match will be a lesson for them and they need to improve. They require gaining more experience," the former Indian captain said.

Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acting president CK Khanna also reflected his views on one-off Test match.

Khanna congratulated the Afghanistan team for their efforts and applauded them for winning the hearts of the entire nation. He further called on the side not to be disheartened by the defeat.

"Undoubtedly, they won the hearts of the entire nation. They played their best. And this is not first time that two innings are over in one day. It has happened earlier as well. And lowest score as far as my information was 84 by South Africa against England. So there is no issue of any disappointment for Afghanistan team," Khanna said.

When asked about the kind of support given by the BCCI to Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), Khanna assured that the Indian cricket board would continue to support Afghan cricketers.

In the historic one-off Test, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side dismissed Afghanistan twice in two sessions on Day Two- first bundling the visiting side for 109 runs in the first inning before bowling them out for 103 runs in second --in reply to India's huge first-innings total of 474 runs.

With the win, India became the first Asian team to win a Test match inside two days.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan, who have fast established themselves as a force to reckon with in the shorter formats, have become the 12th side to feature in men's Test cricket after Ireland debuted against Pakistan last month.
