My ideal Post-1968 Test XI to play in India or Pakistan

    1.Sunil Gavaskar
    2.Gordon Greenidge
    3.Rohan Kanhai
    4.Sachin Tendulkar
    5.Zaheer Abbas
    6.Gary Sobers
    7.Kumar Sangakaara
    8.Imran Khan
    9.Malcolm Marshall
    10.Wasim Akram
    11.Muthiah Murlitharan

My selections may sound surprising. I feel on the sub-continent the prowess of Rohan Kanhai and Zaheer Abbas could come in more handy than that of Viv Richards or Brian Lara. On turning tracks Kanhai would overshadow Viv while on flat docile surfaces Zaheer Abbas batted like Bradman.

Lara was champion against spin but not at his best in India or Pakistan.Taken into consideration Zaheer's stunning aggregate in 1978 v India nad in 1982-83 .I have never seen a batsmen looking as composed as ZAher batting on slow wickets in the sub-continent.Kanhai displayed mastery in 1959-60 in India scoring 256 at Kolkata and averaging over 6. He alos scored a double hundred in Pakistan.Marshall's performance on both tours simply spoke for itself. Sobers was at his best in India and Pakistan, averaging over 90 in some series.

Wasim Akram was magician on pancakes and was a unanimous choice. Imran would be the perfect man to lead the side. Chose Greenidge as he blended flamboyance with high technical skill. Gavaskar and Tendulkar were certain choices with their phenomenal record. Murli was more effective than Warne in India or Pakistan. Sangakaara would get in because of great batting average.

Where is Saeed Anwar? I’m glad you put Zaheer Abbas. Many ‘experts’ don’t realize how good he was
