Is Shoaib Malik the Greatest Of All Time in T20Is?
He is the first to play 100 T20's, in this format is he the G.O.A.T ?
Sachin Tendulkar is often regarded as one of the all time greats for having played 200 Tests, with his longevity being one of the major attributes of his prowess.
Malik's stats are also very impressive, a batting average of 31.55 @ an S/R of 122.52 and bowling average of 22.57 from 100+ games are excellent numbers.
Malik is also a World T20 Champion being a member of the 2009 winning squad, in scenes which are now etched in the memory of every Pakistan fan he was seen running towards Shahid Afridi with an expression of ecstasy as the winning runs had been claimed to bring the trophy home.
Ah, so this is what it feels like

Shoaib has singlehandedly revived Pakistan’s LOI fortunes let alone t20 fortunes the moment he made a comeback in the wretched post WC 2015 era under scared Misbah. In 3 years time under his guidance we have seen glory in the form of champions trophy, not to mention he has groomed younger players like Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam and before his retirement in tests, Asad Shafiq.
It irks me to think what irreverisible damage he would’ve done to India in 2011 WC semi if Afridi had looked out for his brother Shoaib, the same one he is embracing and caressing in the t20 final pic.
He’s a lone warrior, and I hope we see a smiling Shoaib play a supporting or even protagonist role in our march to the next t20 WC - his last before retiring.

Don’t think we can put him in the league of players like Gayle, ABD etc. But he’s a very underrated batsman. He’s a level above the likes of Hafeez and has that extra gear.

He is not the greatest of all time...only because he play 100 games to get the 2000 runs mark, while guys like guptill and mccullum played alot less and reached that mark. So no he is not the greatest of all time, but he is a great t20 player for sure no one will argue that.

In the Arthur era Malik has become a very good LOI bat, he developed in his 30s, whereas others in better setups do in their 20s. Even if it’s later in his career - great to see him bat like this...

Not sure about T20is, but definitely one of the best t20 players. His performances uptill 2014 were very ordianary. Average of around 22 with strike rate of 113 something. He has turned it around in T20is ever since. But he has always been a force in domestic t20 leagues, and definitely worth a shout for no 5 spot esp in Asia.

For the amount of time he has played, I am actually quite surprised he has played only 260 odd ODI matches. I thought he would be nearing 500 by now, as he has been around since late 90s if I am not wrong. For a Pakistani cricketer to play this long is a massive accomplishment and he has won Pakistam quite a number of games.

Oh he's a Goat alright. Goat as in he bats like a goat as soon as the ball starts swinging or seaming and if the opposition is of high caliber. Absolute bottler when it comes to playing with the big boys, and should honestly not be in Pakistan's plans for the world cup next year.

I think you’re forgetting that Malik had a pretty egregious record before 2015. Average in the early 20s and a SR around 113-115. Since his return he has been nothing short of remarkable though and if he keeps playing like this till his retirement he will at least cement himself as a Pakistani limited-overs great

Not sure if he’s the GOAT or not but he certainly is an ATG of the format.
Lacks impact like a Gayle or AB to be considered GOAT but has consistent performance so definitely an ATG in this format.

The ones who think he isnt great at all and hasnt scored a century need to realize he bats in the middle order 2 down or below, you dont see maby cebturies there.
Most of the T20 centuries are from openers, does that mean they all are all time greats. Nah don think so.
The number of T20 teams malik has played for all around the world itself depicts his class in the format.

Shoaib has been a wonderful servant for Pakistani cricket and is an ATG especially in T20 cricket. But I would take a peak-Yuvraj over him who I consider the real T20 GOAT, especially in Internationals. More than useful spinner in shorter formats as well.

Malik has benefitted as much from Pakistan playing rubbish opposition as hafeez did when he was re-establishing his career.

Definitely not a GOAT, but is won one of the best. He's one of the top T20 commodities in the World.
Comparing him with others who too scored 2000 runs in fewer matches is unfair as the rest of are either openers or no.3 batsmen.
He's won the most matches for Pakistan in this format, most of them coming in the last few years. Currently, without him Pakistan would've faced losses against minnow teams like Scotland and UAE, forget about winning against teams like Australia and the World XI. Except for the 2 T20's, Pakistani batsmen have massively failed to deliver in this format without him, since 2015, many times on the verge of loosing to an associate team.
Currently Pakistan has only two batsmen who can actually bat in pressure situations LOI's that is Fakhar and Malik, sadly.Last edited by super hitter; 12th July 2018 at 22:22.

Dhoni is not great in T-20 format despite averaging 37. Main reason is that he bats too slow with SR of 127.
Malik is pretty good against spin and I wish his positions was not switched in ODI. If I recall it right, he played better in certain positions when he started, but it went downhill after his position was changed. I may be mixing it up with some other Pakistani player though and you can correct me here.

Yah, now I remember. Inzzi changing his position. He was not gun in overseas conditions, but players can improve if they feel confident in certain positions. I think his career would have been better if he was left at his original position. Despite his weakness, I recall him being a good runner and one of the better players in Pakistan to rotate strike. Anyway, his career is done now.

Top 5 T20 batsmen IMO:-
Chris Gayle
Virat Kohli
Yuvraj Singh
Brendon Mccullum
AB de Villiers/Suresh Raina
Many all-rounders are there as well like Shane Watson, Shahid Afridi, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo but the list is of batsmen here.

Maybe. I might be nitpicking here, but how is his history in dealing with genuine pace bowlers when he comes in early after his side (Pak or any t20 league team) is like 15 or 20 for 3? He is great against the spinners but from what I've seen when facing pace bowlers early on, he looks a little vulnerable.

Maliks a good t20 player, he's an in demand player for a reason across these franchise leagues, has the skill and ability to construct a good t20 innings and make it count, I don't recall him every having a string of bad t20 performances, even when he was woefully out of form in 2009/2010 he was contributings 20s. Having said that, the record above is due to longevity more than anything else, he's played at least 30 more innings than anyone else in that list, but in his favour is that he's a middle order bat, most of the guys in that list are opening bats.

T20Is are mostly played by minnows. Most other countries played very few -- only playing one per series, and ICC tournaments. T20s have been saved for franchises and for governing bodies to raise money (ICC tournaments and ASia cups).
Given this background not surprising he dominates stats. I like him -- he plays unselfishly, has maintained fitness, and plays according to the situation.

Sensational numbers, most folk who are insecure about their own favourites will down play the format because their bunch of novices are unable to match such feats or those of Pakistan, fact is we are the undisputed kings of this format with or without WT20 titles. I believe that it would be a greek tragedy if a team other then Pakistan win the WT20, it would devalue the trophy when you look at our monumental dominance; 10 series wins in a row, unprecedented @Mamoon @Syed1

From the top of my head,
2007 t20 world cup chase vs Australia
2009 world cup final, crucial 30 odd with Afridi...
2012 chase vs India for the 1st t20
any more if I'm forgetting?
the stats can include bilaterals as well..
