Bangladesh chose to bowl.
I hope this is a green deck otherwise means Bangladesh were scared of batting first.

Insha Allah after this series is over the ICC is forced to remove Bangladesh Test Status, that's how savagely I want WI to beat Bangladesh. No mercy ! am tired of watching these club level cricketers insult Test Cricket after the charity they were blessed with in 2000

I think that we can dramatically increase Test viewership by removing Bangladesh as a Test playing nation, but to be fair I will miss them getting routed; it's a big spectacle in itself watching them do the chicken dance

BD needs to bat big in the first innings. Very few excuses not too on this surface.

Looking like a big total from West Indies is coming up here. It will be interesting to see how Bangladesh bat in this Test. I don't think they will have any excuse if they fail again to score.

Shakib has been more than pathetic as a captain.Mahmudullah or Tamim should take charge.Batting is horrible, bowling is toothless, fielding is sloppy. This team should play tests only at home for next two years.

I honestly do not see BD chasing successfully in the 4th inning. Their best option was to bat first.

First session has gone better than anyone could have expected. Question is will the BD batters capitalize given the bowlers have cut the expected total by about 100 runs.

Bangladesh is playing here for a respectable (!) defeat here.Their players don't believe in themselves that they can win,how they can win then? Their mindset ,body language ,attitude has become of a looser in recent times.Shakib failed as a captain to motivate them by his lack of own good performance and sensible captaincy. Bangladesh desperately needs a win somehow from somewhere to restore some confidence.

They still trail by 324 runs

Very disappointing from Mominul. He's scored 1 run from 3 innings. Really the failure of the BCB to not get this guy enough match practice in between tours. He's a much better player than that.

105-4 now...wickets in pairs has really cost us. This is perhaps a better wicket than Antigua - granted Windies scored fewer runs - but its still a challenging wicket.
We need at least 300 to stay in the game. Batting last on this track will be insane.

I am surprised and disappointed with how bad Bangladesh has been. They really are not worthy of Test cricket. Zero signs of improvement away from home.

To be expected really.
They don't play any A team games at home, forget about overseas in Australia or England. The domestic games feature only SLAs, not even any wrist spinners, as its not in the cricketing culture.
The only viable recipe is to keep making turners at home against any non Asian side, win a few Tests on the lottery of a minefield and use those wins to get as many overseas tours, on which BD will struggle for years to come. Eventually, they might get to where PAK and SL are now as far as overseas results go. But that will likely take 10 years from now.

FYI
We just recently drew 1-1 with the English side and won 2-1 on our last WI tour and apart from that 0-2 blip against SL we've given gun home sides a fair run for their money, heck we almost chased down 491 in Australia during the 2017 summer.
Bangladesh is decade(s) away from that kind of a competitive edge, in test cricket i.e. and it would take a severe overhaul and a complete 180 in mindset to (a) get to such a state and (b) keep those performance on a consistent basis.

Bangladesh is good only to win one or two test matches at home against teams who dont play spin well. They are improved side in ODIs but not so much in tests.
-

But you didn't chase down 491 did you? Because if you almost did, Bangladesh almost beat Australia in 2006 and almost beat Pakistan even earlier in 2003 if not for some classic cheating from Latif bhai.
As for England, yes I admit you drew 1-1 and also 2-2 in 2016. That looks pretty good on paper...until you realize two things:
1) Everyone wins at least 1 test in England. SL won an entire series in 2014, India won a Test in 2014 when they got beaten everywhere, West Indies to date ranked below Bangladesh, mind you, won a Test there last year.
Given the amount of time India has before the Tests, unless England ups their game by an order of magnitude, India is going destroy them. So 1-1 or 2-2, has little meaning in my opinion.
2) Pakistan's performances in England are an anomaly. Because if it weren't, PAK would have won some Tests in NZ, AUS, and SA. I don't remember the last time Pakistan won a Test in any of those countries. And I almost forgot the 1-1 in Zimbabwe in 2013.
If Pakistan is winning all Tests they play in all different conditions, they would probably not be ranked #7.
Bangladesh is decade(s) away from that kind of a competitive edge, in test cricket i.e. and it would take a severe overhaul and a complete 180 in mindset to (a) get to such a state and (b) keep those performance on a consistent basis.
And who's mindset are we talking about? BCB or the players?
The players' mindset is OK apart from the peculiar borderline personality whereby they refer to any of the other top 9 teams as "big sides" (inferiority complex) but also tend to make paradoxically extravagent statements like we'll whitewash Australia 2-0. But I highly doubt that is affecting on field performance. Its merely a talking point on forums such as this.
The BCB's mindset however could use a massive upgrade. Almost everything is either outdated or simply insufficient.
However, with the introduction of the World Test Championship, I see hope for accelerated progression for the following reasons:
1) Bangladesh's ODI competitiveness started back in 2010. I don't think thats a coincidence. Bangladesh had spent 4-5 years having a very competitive rivalry with Zimbabwe from 2005-2009. ZIM was just strong enough to keep Bangladesh on their toes and force them to learn from their mistakes. Having a rival team and playing them often (we must have played 7-8 bilateral series in those 5 years) was the catalyst to forming a competitive ODI unit.
2) With the WTC there will be enough opportunities against teams like WI, SL, NZ where Bangladesh can take those same baby steps they took with Zimbabwe in ODIs. WI and NZ might boss us at home, but in Bangladesh they will struggle more often than not. I base that on the fact that none of South Africa, England, or Australia dominated during their most recent tours to Bangladesh.
3) There will be plenty of opportunities to learn in Tests against Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Afghanistan. This was not possible in the past.
4) All of the above 3 points will increase exposure to overseas conditions which is currently almost non-existent.

Jason Holder takes five as Bangladesh collapse again
Bangladesh collapsed again – this time for 149 – as Holder, the Windies captain, picked up five wickets in 10.1 overs in reply to the home side’s first-innings score of 354. The Bangladesh innings lasted just 46.1 overs. The day ended with the Windies 19/1 in their second innings, 224 ahead overall and in line for a second big win in the two-Test series.
The day started with the Windies on 295/4, Brathwaite’s 110 and Shimron Hetmyer’s 84* having put them in the ascendancy. Hetmyer fell after adding just two more runs to his tally on the second day, and there’s wasn’t another innings of note apart from Holder’s 33*.
Indeed, the first bit of the day belonged to Bangladesh, who bounced back well to pick up six wickets for just 59 runs.
Mehidy Hasan, the young off-spinner who had picked up three wickets on the first day, ended with 5/93, while paceman Abu Jayed had 3/38 and Taijul Islam, the left-arm spinner, 2/82.
Bangladesh, who had collapsed for 43 and 144 in the first Test on their way to defeat by an innings and 219 runs, were slightly better this time even though they lost opener Liton Das and Mominul Haque with just 20 runs on the board. Shannon Gabriel sent both batsmen back in the seventh over of the innings.
But the experienced Tamim Iqbal looked good and got good company from captain Shakib Al Hasan for the third wicket as the two added 59 runs.
Holder broke through with the wicket of Shakib (32), and after Keemo Paul hit Iqbal’s stumps to send him back for 47 – his first Test wicket – there was little resistance bar Mushfiqur Rahim’s 24 and Islam’s 18. Holder finished with 5/44.
There was time for only nine overs in the second Windies innings, in which Shakib bowled Brathwaite for 8. Devon Smith and Paul, the night-watchman, were at the crease when play ended.

Final chance for BD to show some spine. They will likely be chasing 350-400. A 275 ish total will make the game a lot closer than its been so far.
On a different note, how good has Jason Holder's bowling been recently?

Terrible display from BD.
Very disappointing as we need the Asian teams to be strong. They’re a Muslim country and I really want them to be a force. Sadly, it seems they are actually receding rather then improving. The problem is their golden generation of players is aging together. Tamim, Shakib, Rahim, Mahmadullah, Mash, Rubel. Who will replace these guys? Their performances even with these guys is terrible. Come on BD - show some fight.
I really hope BD win the one day series in WI

After 20 years, are Bangladesh improving?
Clearly, they can compete in odi series at home. But even in home tests, they have been terrible. And as for away from home- Ireland would demolish Bangladesh in Ireland in a test series in May. That is all one needs to say about BDs progress.
