Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Navjot Singh Sidhu invited to Imran Khan's oath-taking ceremony [#117]

ew Delhi: Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has invited some prominent former Indian cricketers to his oath-taking ceremony as premier on August 11, party spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media outside Pakistan's Supreme Court, Chaudhry said that former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, and Navjot Singh Sidhu have been invited, along with Bollywood actor Aamir Khan.

The PTI, led by 65-year-old Khan, has emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly after the July 25 elections, but it is still short of numbers to form the government on its own. Khan on Monday said that he would take oath as prime minister on August 11.

Never ever take any news coming from an Indian paper/media at face value unless you hear it from the horse himself.

Will wait to see who Imran invites once PTI officially announces it.

"One step forward, two steps forward from IK". IK has already invited Modi, I would rather not have IK invite someone who support extremists against minority but for the peace of the region people might have to be okay in engaging such individuals.

Not sure about IK invitation. It's not a straight forward decision to invite any head of state as it may offend others. What India did was to call SAARC leader as its long standing (not working) group so no one else get offended.Inviting individual heads of date is difficult to manage.Add to this security requirements and unnecessary trouble.

There is no quote there, so pure speculation. It doesn't even make sense, if Modi declined an invitation it would reflect badly on him rather than the Pak leader.

Giving us a link to Dawn is hardly a glorious endorsement to your original post.

Dawn routinely copy and paste news from Indian media outlets.

Dawn and it's credibility has already taken a massive nosedive.

I would rather Imran call as many patients from his Shauhkut Khanum hospital as possible rather than any Indian celebrity etc, to his oath taking ceremony.

Why give trouble to patients? This is like FIFA president saying the Thai kids stuck in cave will get free tickets to World cup final once they come out.

Imran Khan shouldn't invite actors who're descendants of foreign conquerors or Brahmin cricketers, themselves older foreign conquerors.

Imran Khan should invite indigenous representatives from the Dalit/Adivasi communities if he's sincere in making peace with India.

IK did. Back then he was the opposition. As i said, when you are in opposition you pretend to be the only saviour of the country. Now PML-N will pretend they never hosted Modi and anyone who does is automatically a traitor.

Many will jump off the PTI bandwagon if Imran Khan opens up to India.

As we understood, he mentioned India as the last of all countries while outlining his foreign policy for a reason, and that too in relation to Kashmir/human rights violation.

If Imran Khan cozies up to India, he'll get trolled left and right, and rightfully so. Bilawal will chew him to death. In fact Junaid Safdar of all peoples is already doing that (on Twitter).

The last time we had a friend of Modi(/Jindal) we all know how it ended for the country.

I think he has an interesting strategy with Indian. Imo Imran will get very friendly with those who he knows as crickters and those who will talk of Pakistan in good light but try to criticise and distance himself with those who are anti-Pak. Cricketers, Actors and celebs are always on T.V talking so their good words may help him get more support from Indians. Diving opinions in India will be good for IK and Pakistan government.

Not on Pakistani side, most Pakistani want peace, IK hasn't ran a campaign of hate against India or hindu whereas Modi and BJP has all the support of radicalized hindu militant in India.

LOL. This has become a vanity exercise and a circus for tabdeeli razakars, gushing over who will be in the guest list and who will be struck off, seeking pride over tokenism and telling themselves this is naya Pakistan. carbon copy of modi toadies.

This is the event stars want to attend. Forget the Oscars, Bollywood award or even the Queen of Britain's birthday party, they will be witnessing history of the biggest star to come out of the sub-continent. You wish you were there too.

I hope it sets a trend for the future..with the boyism of the junoonis and the ego of their star celebrity politician a perfect combo, they will be given daily dose of how he talked about welfare like the sahabas, what did he talked about minority rights like Qaid-e-Azam , how he sat crosslegged with Allama Iqbals' pose, and how he walked towards the podium with the swag of james bond, so that the junoonis get a collective cytoplasm. Pakistan has seen false dawns in the past, let's wait to see how this one turns out to be.

Pakistan had B-List people in charge , now they have the most well known Asian in the world in office. From movie stars to world leaders all want a piece of the action, they all want to be seen with the biggest superstar since Ghandi. They will be happy to sit and listen to the poetry of Allama Iqbal and the inspiring vision of the Qaid. There is no need to wait, make a call telling them you're a legend on PP and take your seat but perhaps you should stay quiet while there.

Nice list. I don't like Modi and I'd rather he doesn't come to Pakistan.

IK has a very good relationship with Sunny and Dev, so not surprised there! Amir Khan the actor, why him tho?

Forget Modi, Aamir Khan, Sidhu - they are irrelevant anyway. We all want the following guests to be invited from India:

    2. Kareena Kapoor

    4. Alia Bhat
    5. kriti Sannon
    6. Jacqueline Farnendez

No child is born to express racism or hate to anyone or any ideology or perception assuming it donít go against the childís perception of right and wrong. I know we can argue all day right and wrong is subjective to the observer, but for arguments sake letís assume the child has a base level understanding and right and wrong is black and white.

As the child gets older, the mind opens up to more in depth entries and have a void on how to think and what side they should lean on. A lot of the times the parents either drill it in them or the child picks it up listening and talking to said parents. Be it in any topic, sports team for example.

This topic is of Pakistan and India and say religion. We know most donít talk positive of each other especially and it comes politically and honestly most donít know a thing about economics. A lot of the time the parents sit and watch news station depending on which side of the border. They spew out stupidly and sensationalise things. Also their is fake news they pick up. From spy pigeons to India wanting to blow Pakistan up and take over the lair goes on.

The parents believe these thugs religiously and have a negitivr percdption. Know the childís biggest role model in life is the parents so they take the same view, thus the cycle goes on.

Some and very few grow up to think independent, logically, rationally and with a free open and liberal mind. But letís be honest itís very few.

    This is what I meant.

Haha thanks itís a mix of Bruce and chuck thought it sounded cool haha. Thanks for the welcome, Normal you people dot like to interact with the new guys and itís Fairly isolating.

What a farce this is turning out to be. When I was made the class monitor, I was very strict with my friends. No friendship when I had the cane in my hand. And here Khan sahab is inviting past cricketers he played with, some of whom like navjot sidhu lower the stature of audience wherever they go. Did you become PM to give front row seats to the people you used to play with?

Firstly I have doubts if IK will be our PM. I have this feeling that it will be someone else like Shah Mehmood taking the oath. I don't believe in these rumours of Indian celebrities being invited to the ceremony. Imran Khan is not the type to do such a thing.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday said that party has decided against inviting foreign dignitaries to PM-elect Imran Khan’s oath-taking ceremony.

Speaking to the media regarding preparations for Imran’s oath-taking ceremony, Chaudhry said, “The PTI chairman has directed that the ceremony should be extremely simple and not ostentatious.”

“We will not invite any foreign dignitaries,” the PTI spokesperson said.

However, he added that some foreign friends of Imran will be invited to the event. “A few of Imran’s friends are the only foreign nationals being invited to the event,” he said.

Imran invites Bollywood star Aamir Khan, Indian sportsmen to oath-taking ceremony

“The ceremony will be a purely national event,” he added.

Chaudhry also clarified that Imran will take his oath as 20th prime minister of Pakistan at the President House in Islamabad.

A day earlier, the PTI spokesperson had shared that Imran extended an invitation to Indian sportsmen and Bollywood star Aamir Khan to attend this oath-taking ceremony.

Chaudhry remarked that those invited to the oath-taking ceremony include former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Navjot Sidhu and Bollywood star Aamir Khan.
