    India [329 & 352/7d] beat England [161 & 317] by 203 runs to win 3rd Test Match

It is emblematic of Englandís day and their Test that swing did more damage to their own cause than to Indiaís. According to CricViz data, the ball has swung more at Trent Bridge than it did at Lordís, and yet itís India, in a remarkable display of adaptation and fortitude after being 2-0 down and outplayed, who have made the most use of conditions, despite losing the toss. They have outbatted, outbowled, and outfielded England in this Test match.

Keaton Jennings and Alastair Cook may have survived to the close unbeaten, but with the pitch taking turn, variable bounce on show, and a mountain of scoreboard pressure giving licence to attack in the field, surely at some point over the next two days India will win this Test. If so, they will enter the fourth Test 2-1, with a few players having answered questions, and with a few more of Englandís in doubt. This series isnít over yet.

    IND 329, 352/7 decl
    ENG 161, 23/0 (9.0 Ovs) CRR: 2.56
Day 3: Stumps - England need 498 runs

    India will finish this today!

If they can finish it today, it gives extra day for recovery to the injured/tired players! They should attack intensively and not worry about margin of defeat/leakage of runs (actually that's the best way to get bigger margin victory - closing soon!)

I am going to keep my fingers crossed. With Ashwin wincing in pain India relies on the same 4 bowlers again. They largely rely on one guy clicking out of nowhere. If that doesn't happen they can be listless. Only pressure can provide some assistance.

Probably its going to be bit tough for India (may go into last day!) But if Indians can get them out cheaply, its going to lift the confidence for the next 2 matches! Otherwise England can gain the confidence to at least draw the next matches (may even go for bit flatter pitches!)

Perfect Test match bowling. Jennings has gone nowhere after his fluke hundred in India two years ago. Think he is heading the same as the dozen openers post Strauss.

The problem for England is that Cook himself is on his last legs and fails in 90% of the innings he plays these days.

Massive problems for England. They might be heading for the late 90ís type crisis and could be in need of a Nasser Hussain type figure to steady them. Not sure if Root has the character to do that.

I have similar observations. He reminds me somewhat of a young Kamran, who took some great catches early in his career because of his sharp reflexes and agility, but as he grew older and put on a few pounds, he started to drop catches because he was mostly wrong-footed.

Pantís keeping will be tested severely on Indian pitches especially against the spinners, but going back to Saha will be a backward step. No doubt he is a terrific keeper, but he adds nothing with the bat.

Pant has the potential to add a new dimension to the Indian lower-order and play game changing knocks like Buttler.

I rate Saha very highly. I believe technique wise he is the second best keeper after Healy.

Ishant has been effective with that angle against the left handers in this series.

England's batsmen don't have the grit to even attempt to fight out a draw. This is going one way.

Glad to see Ishant finally maturing up to be a top class test bowler.

Hopefully his county stint is the turning point in his career just like it was for Zaheer Khan.

Hard to imagine he is only going to turn 30 this year. If he can keep this up for the next 4 years he can end up with 400+ wickets which is a massive achievement for a SC fast bowler.

Brave prediction: if Pope stops defending with an angled bat and learns to play straight, he will play 100 Tests for England.

You don't have to be elite to play 100 tests for England.

Basically just have a good year or two here or there, never mind if you are poor in LoI cricket, do well in a home series vs Australia and start your 100th test with a middling average of 43.08 seems to be the rulebook going by past history.

England have tried a dozen batsman in the last five years who have not been able to cut the mustard. Since Root, who made his debut in 2012, they have not produced a batsman with enough caliber to last for a decade.

The likes of Ballance, the dozen partners of Cook including Jennings, Compton, Lyth and numerous other generic players whose names I cannot recall were found out quickly. Even the much hype Hameed has lost the plot in no time.

Their best upcoming batsmen of the last few years have been wicket-keepers, so I think this Pope kid is a welcome addition. There is something about him that the other countless batsmen did not have.

KL Rahul should take confidence from his catching on to his batting! He can cement his place in Indian test team on this alone + Murali Vijay's demise as opener! Should forget about LOIs for a while (IPL is there for the taking! Should switch off impulsive stroke-play immediately after IPL! Not everyone has robust gearbox like Kohli)

Pant is more of a T20 and at most ODI keeper. For test matches especially on Indian turners he will be found wanting.

He needs to do a Kohli and improve drastically if we are looking at him as a long term option in tests.

Nonsense. He is not a finished product by any means. But at 20 years old he is a pretty good keeper. He took a brilliant catch of Woakes in the 1st innings. And has caught 6 out of 7 so far on debut that too in England - the most difficult place for any WK.

He's a long term WK. I'm sure of it.

Nah most difficult will be to wicket keep for a spinner on an Indian or srilankan track. But he had plenty of time ahead to learn.

Guy took 5 catches in the first innings including a stunner on his debut.
He drops one and knives are out questioning his ability to keep in the longer format of the game.

Nobody is denying that. He is very agile but wicket keeping skills also need right foot movement and accurate guesswork, which he will learn.

One guy called him a horrible wicketkeeper. He's 20 fgs. Give the lad sometime I'm certain he'll come good.

England has to swing the axe at the top order now. We cannot continue at 60-4 every test match.

Have you noticed Pant has a habit of hurling the ball in the air right after he collects it?

Might lead to trouble if it's a nick a la Herschelle Gibbs.

Being in a winning position, dropping catches and ending up with a moral victory has happened way too often with India lately. I won't be surprised if something unexpected happens in this match too.

Can't see where the next wicket is coming from here...these two now look comfortable.

If Ashwin is not going to be effective, could be a long slog for the Indian bowlers.

England's only hope is to somehow hold on till end of day today and then hope and pray for rain to wash out all of tomorrow. Otherwise defeat is inevitable.

Stupid for Kohli to be bowling Ashwin, I just tuned in and Ashwin is clearly struggling. He can easily win without bowling Ashwin now and injuring him for the rest of the series

Might as well throw caution to the winds for the fourth test:

    Hales
    Roy
    Vince
    Moeen
    Root
    Stokes
    Buttler (w)
    Woakes or Curran
    Rashid

There is another day left, no need for any nerves unless you've got a lunchtime date with one of the players/coaching staff and you scheduled it for tomorrow.
