54 foreign agencies active to destabilize Pakistan: Shahryar Afridi

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Minister of Satate for Interior Shahryar Afridi on Tuesday revealed that around 54 foreign intelligence agencies were active in Pakistan to destabilize the contry.

In his informal discussion during meeting with journalists at the Ministry of Interior on Tuesday, he said that they won’t let those succeed who were trying to incite hatred among the people the country, adding that the propaganda against country’s institutions would be foiled.

Afridi said that he would along with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa hold meetings with ulemas of all sects in Balochistan, adding that they would also visit various universities and educational institutions along with the ulemas.

“Various sects have offered joint prayer in Balochistan, which shows sectarian harmony in the province and the media should highlight this aspect as well,” he said. Uplifting Balochistan is the top priority of the government, he added.

The state minister went on to say that 54 foreign intelligence agencies were active in Pakistan to destabilize the contry and their agents incite violence in the country.

He said: “There will be no compromise on Pakistan s national security and integrity.”

Regarding anti-encroachment drive in Islamabad, the Minister of State said violators will be dealt as per law and no leniency will be shown in this regard.

Replying to a question, Afridi said Prime Minister Imran Khan had clearly announced his support for lawful demands of Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement Chief Manzoor Ahmad Pashteen.

Would have been better if he had disclosed the agencies names unless he just plucked the number out of thin air. Foreign agencies are involved in every country not just Pakistan. This Afridi guy sounds like Zaid Hamid!

It's important to note that 54 agencies does not mean 54 countries. Each country has multiple agencies, so this sounds about right as it would mean there are maybe about 7-10 countries operating in Pakistan.

So China, USA, Israel, India, Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia for definites. You could probably throw UK in there too. All of whom have multiple agencies, so 54 probably wouldn't be off the mark.

UK has the largest spying network after US in Pakistan.

The US gets spying agencies of other countries to gather intelligence for them...

Ofcourse they all would..... dont put it past other European, African and Asian countries as well.

The whole rendition saga is a window into how CIA has reach into spying agencies of many other countries, who have a very benign image.

Yes, the whole world is conspiring against Pakistan to prevent it from becoming the superpower it was destined to become.

The reality is that Pakistan has been destabilized due to “internal agencies” and extremism that will continue to stop the country from progressing, and in light of what happened to Atif Mian, the new government does not have the guts to tackle them either.

This seems to suggest the General feels the foreign agencies will be looking to foment sectarian strife in the country. I would suggest that Pakistan probably needs to rein in those maulvis who promote sectarian agendas first and foremost, if they are given a free hand you can't them blame foreign agencies of taking advantage if they see an opportunity to further their own interests. Perhaps a firm and clear policy would be better than touring mosques and doling out impromptu advice.

I think pretty much every country that has an embassy in another company spy at some level.
