So far in his career not seen any inswing capability from Khaleel. Won't trouble quality batters till he learns it and/or generates more pace

Shaheen looks like much better prospect as of now. Already has enough pace to push batsmen on back foot and has shown signs of both ways movement off fuller length

No offense but to be honest some big jokes are going on as comparison threads.

Now every new left arm bowler who is yet to take wicket of any respectable batsman is gonna be compared with Shaheen?

Problem is Khaleel might not even play that many matches to be compared unless he improves as he cant stay in the team with such performances for very long.

Khaleel is surely nipy but not fast, cant move the ball in the air or off the surface much and lacks variations for LOIs. Good raw prosoect to have but he isnt gonna feature in many games with such deficiencies. He can surely imorove.

Whike Shaheen atm is considered good enough to play regular international cricket by Pak management and they are not wrong. Guy is 6.6, delivered a ball at almost 148 kph in the last match, seams the ball decently, got a slower ball, has got control of reverse swing and bowls a good yorker.
Needs to work a lot on bouncer though. But he is good enough to play international cricket and will develop further within international circuit.

Agree. Shaheen is on his way to improvement. Meanwhile Khaleel is still a bit raw. Still no comparison.

They're both good/great prospects. I like Khaleel as much as Shaheen, but the latter does have the advantage of height and can ball very quick. I've seen Khaleel use slower deliveries when he can't get swing, so he already knows the basics of bowling in humid conditions.

Let's not get dragged into the same territory of the Pandya v Faheem thread rubbish.

Yes it sounded like that from my post which was totally unintentional. What I meant was that Shaheen Shah is a different league from Khaleel at the moment. Both have a lot to imrpove but Shaheen is good enough to regularly feature in international cricket, which is something extreme at 18 years of age. He is a prodigy and not every bowler who bowls left arm should be compared with him.

Otherwise why not a thread “Obed McCoy vs Shaheen”?

But, career path of Shaheen totally depends upon his hardwork and fitness.

Have high hopes from Khaleel but if I have to choose between Shaheen and Khaleel right now I will pick Shaheen. The way he bowled yesterday against Australia showed he has mature head on his young shoulder. He has got a good height and speed too.

Khaleel Ahmed is overhyped. Navdeep Saini, Shivam Mavi, Nagarkotti all are better than Khaleel.

On topic, Afridi is much ahead.

Pak have a better culture of grooming pacers, but even Khaleel has some potential.

Advantage for SA is, he'll be thrown in the ocean and asked to swim(just like how we keep throwing batsmen). I won't be shocked if he's in the test squad against South Africa. Whereas, KA won't get many chances. Once Pandya returns we'll go back to Pandya, Bhuvi and Bumrah.

But, surely these two should look to outperform each other.

    Mohammad Abbas?

Rabada played couple of T20s where he wasn’t in wickets, but it all changed with his ODI debut.

For Shaheen he is just played 3 ODIs, yes definitely not earth shattering but pretty impressive. Maybe NZ ODI series will be a game changer for Shaheen, who knows?

No pace bowler currently will get Test debuts for India. Bumrah, Ishant, Shami, Yadav and Bhuvi in the line up. Siraj should be next in line for Tests. I am thinking Khaleel will take over from Bhuvi after the WC. He is currently India's third seamer in ODIs and that's what the team management thinks.

Great start for both of them in their career so far. Shaheen has started to touch 140 regularly, while Khaleel has gone back to his old speeds of 132-133 kmph but has started to move the ball appreciably including getting the ball to move into right handers, a great skill to have for a left arm pacer.

How they go in their careers depends totally on how they are guided and handled. Thats one area Shaheen will have a huge advantage like it is for young batsmen in India. Khaleel's biggest hope will be if his mentor Zaheer becomes the bowling coach sooner than later.

In any case, we should play Khaleel in every single ODI and T20 we play from here on. That wil give him around 20-25 matches to get ready for a role in the WC attack. Will Kohli-Shastri back him ahead of Bhuvi? I hope so

I think he's deliberately bowling slower and focussing on swing and control

Initially in the series he was fast but not effective

Still a work in progress but so far impressed

May be, but, he can't get away with these speeds on flat pitches.

But yes, finally some real seamer we've found after so many trundlers like Srans, Thakurs, Kauls, Sharmas, Unadkats, and the list goes on...

Khaleel is a trundling despite having the ability to bowl consistently at 135-145..But somehow keeps getting wkts even while trundling.
He needs to return to his original pace or he will end up like irfan pathan and munaf patel.India needs strict no trundler policy in place.Only exemption bhuvi. After that no more.If they cant bowl in 140s no place unless extremely skilled swing bowler.

Khaleel asked for the new ball confirms Rohit. Good to see the confidence as well. Pace was up as well. All in all good progress so far. Should be playing every ODI and T20 from now till the WC.

He also spoke about working on his arm position during and after release, already showing better understanding than many experienced Indian pacers.

Even if he consistently bowls 135-136, with the skills he’s got, he will be a handful. Plus being a left armer, gives us the variety.

Khaleel looks like a promising bowler and... *Gasp*... Can actually pick up wickets. He should definitely be played over Economy Kumar in the World Cup next year.

    Isn't Bumrah world No.1?

Shaheen looks like a star already. Khaleel has decent potential to be a very good bowler. He shouldn't sacrifice his pace though.

Difficult for Shami to get back after the way he was tonked in the WI ODI. Right now the pecking order is Bumrah, Bhuvi, Khaleel, Umesh and Shami.

Bumrah has been a top bowler for India in all three formats. When he missed out due to injury in England, he still came back to bowl brilliantly in the Tests. His is surely one of the best pacers in the white ball format. Shami yes, but Bhuvi's golden run only lasted about a year in ODI's. Shami got injured after the WC and with Bumrah coming through, he hasn't played much for India in ODI's but continues to be India's top Test pacer.

I know Bumrah is excellent for now, but not sure for how long he can remain so. But he has good pace + accuracy, which may prolong his career.

You’re talking as if Shami has suddenly become an Irfan Pathan. He’s still a solid test bowler. Perhaps even better than he was.

I have not seen khaleel live in action. But the highlights tell me he has to add pace and like others said if he has a special/go-to delivery is the question. But right now, he must be playing for his place. Once he picks up 10-12 top-team wickets his confidence level will rise. And since he seems to have played for sunrisers in IPL, who are known for bowlers, I think he will only improve.

His idols in Indian cricket should be ashish nehra - who lasted for 15-16 years and Rp singh - who had 2-3 very good abroad tours.
He would do better to consult them before going on an abroad tour.

Zaheer, Khaleel’s mentor at DD and someone on whose recommendation he is in national side, does his magic with him. On Cricbuzz analysis he revealed how he spoke to Khaleel and helped him with his arm positioning in delivery stride and getting him to pitch the ball up and get swing into right handers.

I hope Shastri encourages those conversations and not prevent him from going to Zaheer time to time.

World cup in Eng mind you and Bhuvi will be very handy in those conditions. Khaleel is too inexperienced to be launched into world cup straight away.

Khaleel Ahmed relishing operating with new ball

Young Khaleel Ahmed was impressive yet again as India successfully defended a total of 195 against the West Indies by 71 runs to seal the series 2-0 at Lucknow’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium. Defending the target, Khaleel opened the bowling for India and picked two wickets upfront of the two most in-from West Indies batsmen – openers Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer.

Khaleel, who finished with economical figures of 1 for 16 in the first T20, returned figures of 2 for 30 in the second. During the post-match presentation ceremony, captain Rohit Sharma, who struck a fourth T20I century, had said that Khaleel’s ability to swing the Kookaburra ball gives India the option of operating Jasprit Bumrah differently. In fact, Khaleel himself had asked to open to bowling from his skipper on Tuesday.

“I enjoy the responsibility. When I was young I always dreamt of playing for India. Since I have achieved that, If I feel pressure, I can’t perform to my potential. My only aim is to do well for India and for that I need to enjoy my game. If you enjoy your game, the hunger to do well increases,” Khaleel said during the post-match conference.

As India piled up a total of 195, Khaleel provided them a wonderful start. In the second over, Khaleel dismissed Hope out caught and bowled and had Hetmyer four overs later for his second wicket. As Lucknow’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium hosted its debut international, Khaleel pointed out that the pitch didn’t have much for the bowlers and that landing early strikes was the key in defending the target.

“The pitch had nothing for the bowlers. It was a batting friendly wicket. Our effort was not to give them much room and maintain good line and length. After getting the wickets of Hetmyer and Shai Hope, we thought the match was in our control to some extent,” Khaleel said.

Despite not possessing much IPL experience, the 20-year-old credited his stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad for shaping him as a T20 bowler. He played just one match for Sunrisers earlier during this year’s IPL and went wicketless. However, he has spent a considerable amount of time with Delhi Daredevils under mentor Zaheer Khan, something Khaleel has always cherished.

“The experience of playing the IPL becomes important here. You’ve already performed against these players so there is no pressure of bowling to them for the Indian team. The dressing room is shared and there is no much learn from these players. You basically understand to fine tune things accordingly,” he said.

    You mean height?

Khaleel is decent at this point. He needs to bulk up a little and add increase the pace. Shaheen is bowling at 140k consistently.

At this point, Khaleel has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to be compared to Shaheen.
