Yes it is easier but only when the ball is new, once it starts getting older it becomes harder to time your shots.

Let me put it this way - in the UAE under lights, without world class spinners, Pakistan has a better shot at chasing totals in the range of 220-230 instead of defending.

New Zealand donít look like surpassing that unless Taylor goes berserk. That is why it was a good toss to lose. Our chances of winning D/N ODIs on slow pitches are relatively better bowling first. Things were different when our spin attack was world class (albeit illegally).

Coming back to the post, KW knows the pitch will get slower and lower as the day progresses. There's no reason why NZ can't reach 250 from here, and if they do KW's decision to bat first is vindicated. He is banking on Boult to provide early breakthrough (which is inevitable) and then put the squeeze on with Sodhi/CDG/maybe Munro.
Sarfraz is lucky to win everything he has won so far in his life and whatever he has lost. In-fact Sarfraz is lucky to be even alive. And your point is?

A bit weird to see Imad in after Hasan having a great last over.

I guess the strategy is if NZ try to be aggressive vs Imad, its more likely to work out in Pakistan's favour.

But he is a terrible captain and shadab is fake.

I agree with many posters we just need to bring Haris for Imad to improve this team. Sharjeel for Imad would be good but I guess we are not as Lucky as Mamoon thinks we are.

    Let's see.

Still think the bowling screwed us last match and poor team selection. You don't need three out and out fast bowlers on these pitches.... Hasan Ali bowled absolute filth.

Too bad we don't have one pure spinner and not a psuedo all rounder.

I agree, Sarfaraz was poor with his captaincy even today inside the first 10 overs and has been in ODIs for sometime now . But saving Shadab's overs for later part is turning out to be a good move as it also gave Pak a chance in the 1st match.

He surely needs to Improve his longer formats captaincy, there is no doubt about that.

You are making it sound like the low total that bowlers might achieve by end of the first innings does not require any skill or effort and the team should only be judged on the batting.

The ball swings but if you can get through that, scoring runs is relatively easier than it is during the day. Boult will not run through tje top-order every game.

With spinners like Shadab, Imad and Nawaz, Pakistan does not have a great chance of defending low totals in the UAE. All it takes is one big partnership.

True. When he first came onto the scene he used to start bowling it a lot quicker and shorter when he was attacked. Now he is a lot smarter and trusts his game.

I'm one of those who opposes 2 new balls in ODI's quite strongly but I think they're fine for UAE pitches lol.

    Two things:

Because of Law of Averages, we were bound to eventually win against a better team one way or the other.

Secondly, we have a better chance of chasing low totals under lights rather than defending, as long as we do not have top quality spinners which we donít at the moment.

With only 200 odd runs to chase, our batsmen will be in their comfort zone. There might be a hiccups or two, but we should win this game.

Pakistanís chances of leveling the series increased when Williamson opted to bat first on a sluggish, used pitch.

This is what I have tried to convey for the last one hour, but some Sarfraz bakhts had foam coming out of their mouths because I wasnít waxing lyrical about his brilliant captaincy and how he had restricted New Zealand to a low total on a 300 pitch.

Same brilliant captaincy that has given us a 100% losing record.

I'd much rather have Hussain Talat than Hasan Ali in UAE

One more fast bowler that isn't Hasan Ali for World Cup.

Nz might score 220 here. Think it will be hard to chase with boult and southee in form.

There must be some reason behind this - I can see from CI that SSA can bowl max 9, Fahim also under bowled and Hasan going for a hiding.

Hasan needs to let that ego go and work hard. Don't mind the celebration but needs to work hard, accuracy, consistency and execution is just not their. If he can come out on top of this slump, he will be a much better bowler

Wicket probably is griping more than last game, with dew on it Southee should get some seem movement here; 220 definitely is a fighting total for their fielding. Kiwis will miss Santner today.
