I reckon we should win this, inshAllah. The RRR isn't high at all so don't worry about that, just make sure we lose no early wickets against Boult/Southee and we should breeze home to make it 1-1

A few more heads as well. I don't think PAK batsmen can expect anything more from bowlers and today they got a lucky Run out of Will as well. Shaheen is really impressive and missed the chance of a 5for in both games for not bowling full quota!!!

No need for knee jerk reaction.

Pakistan should win this easily. NZ are atleast 20 short. But in the unlikely event that you do lose, the blame is completely on Sarfaraz . NZ had no business coming close to this total had he used his bowlers properly.

If we lose this we seriously need to get out of the UAE.

Go to Africa, as for the crowds... We barely had a crowd for the T20s.

Even the expats have given up on this team.

It'll be cheaper for PCB and better pitches for our players.

In one sense, UAE has saved PAK cricket from total collapse by allowing themselves to be PAK's "home", but this probably is the worst venue for PAK (along with home wickets for Test playing conditions there), which goes against the core strength of the team.

Some of the traits that UAE has taught (read cursed) PAK cricket are

    1. ZERO new ball skill by pacers - the 4 overs that Mustafiz bowled in opening spell on 26th SEP, can be a catalyst for most PAK pacers - I know it hurts, but fact, I have seen that game. PAK pacers wait for the shine to rough up so that they can grip the ball properly and get some reverse swing!!!!
    2. Reduce in pace - the faster you bowl, the easier it becomes, is the mantra of UAE ... hence Indians are actually faster these days.
    3. Very tittle conventional spin quality - even Yasir pushes most of his balls in tight channel and hope for LBW. Very little classical spin qualities can be developed in UAE - that's big turn, flight, loop and variation of bounce.

    4. PATHETIC batting skills against pace bowling - anything over thigh, it's a problem. Basically, no back-foot game, unless it's a long hop
    5. Nightmare against anything that's shiny & swinging in air - prove, see highlights of last game, first 4-5 overs of Kiwis should be enough
    6. Poor spin playing capability by every batsmen starting career in last 10-12 years on these mud beds, where darters are king - Babar, Haris, Umar, Imam, Asif .... none of them has good foot work, neither wrist work to play proper spin. Mian or MoHa started cricket career in last millennium, therefore they do know how to use feet against spin. I was really surprised from the spin playing capacity of few ZIM batsmen recently!!!
    7. Absolute ZERO maneuvering skills for singles. Singles/rotation can only be done if you have 360 game on either feet - basically, you have 2-3 shots for most balls with a very good placements and shot selection to filter out fatal ones. UAE is the worst place (after home, I am talking about FC games - you don't learn cricket elsewhere) to play shots - so, batsmen are stuck with bottom hand game, rather than top hand.
    8. Very little free scoring shot making ability - that's 4 or 6 against loose balls. On these dead slow, low mud beds you can only learn grafting ala Azhar Ali. Players learn only to play high risk shots for the boundaries - example, watch Fakhar's batting. And, today someone Kn Williamson lobbed a long hop to mid-wickets belly in circle - a ball that he'll send 9 out 10 times to crowd on a proper cricket wicket with good pace & consistent bounce.

Also, UAE has limited PAK players to a particular skill set, which they are good at applying in UAE, which helps them out performing visitors, but bunny elsewhere. Today, I can learn a skill that was appropriate in 1980s and I'll beat most people in that skill, but that's not going to earn me a pay raise in 2018.

PS: This is I am writing on the day PAK is most likely to win the game & quite easily, hence hope that I won't be put in my place here after the game.

If Pakistan don't chase 210 in the desert, they might as well wave the white flag on ODI chases going forward.

@MMHS all valid points about how UAE has destroyed us, but what's done is done, now is there any way out? don't want an ideal solution I want to read a practical one,,, and how and what PCB can and should do???

There are only 3 batsmen in the team (Imam, Fakhr and Babar). Problem is over abundance of all rounders.

@MMHS - that is true and I don't disagree the UAE is an awful venue given Pakistan's traditional strengths. The pitches are anti-cricket with a crippling lack of pace and carry.

The Oval in South London is tailor made for us. It's a flat wicket and there's not much lateral movement, but good pace and bounce where batsmen get value for their shots. The dryness of the surface also encourages spinners.

However, the UAE has helped our Test side which was in freefall before 2010 in that our batsmen have learned how to patiently build a long innings and consistently score 400+ totals which was a big problem for us pre-2010.

    There isn't many realistic alternatives.

A year with very minimal attacks in Pakistan will help. We are ready to host but we do need some support. At the moment we dont have that.

Surely its easier to replicate a UAE style test pitch in pakistan and create a good pakistani ODI pitch?

Agreed - time he gets replace by Haris Sohail. That guy has the game to utilise the gaps in the field during the first PP but I suspect management + skipper are afraid of facing the wrath of Inzy if he gets dropped, so unfortunately he is here to stay in the XI until the WC at least.

He’s actually a fine Number 3 for UAE Test matches.

Faster than Azhar but more mature than Babar.

Practical solution could be to arrange games in other countries in a revenue sharing model or some sort of payment basis - this can be done like converting every/most "home" series in the country of opponent of that series in their home with media rights intact; like playing the next 5 ODI against AUS in AUS instead of UAE. Then may be playing ODI leg of SAF or SRL or BD series in respective countries. Test should remain in UAE.

Mid term solution (And I brag on that every time, because I can see that potential) should be to work with Canada Cricket and prepare couple of decent International grounds around GTA, to make June to SEP PAK's home season in Canada. There are lots of South Asian involved in Canada cricket, interest for watching cricket is 10X times more than UAE at least and the condition is ideal for a team like PAK. A series between PAK - BD, SRL, AFG, WIN will be sold like hot cake. Surprisingly WIN, yes - most Caribbean immigrants here are in their 40s or older, they are still passionate about the game.

Long term has to be in PAK - but to be started from this December : If AB or Smith isn't willing to travel to PAK, so it be - DON'T PICK THEM, PSL has to be played in PAK with only those foreigners willing to travel there.

What's worse is that he's a young guy, grew up watching T20s etc.

And he bats like he's in the 1990s.

Especially in this day and age where batting is supposedly easier.

Is this the most boring series ever?

Cricket in UAE should be banned.
