Amir had that little extra pace and height and the natural ability, his ceiling was higher but now Boult is in another league in tests. In LOIs Amir still competes, in T20s he is superior.

Yes he is slow in the mould of azhar but is it not a worth a try to select him against south africa and play him at three in place of azhar as usman has a good defensive technique to negotiate the new ball and swing and pace of ngidi, rabada, steyn, philander? Because basically azhar and usman are similar type players but with azhar in horrible form averaging only 19 in 2018 so may be you can replace him with usman in South Africa tour if azhar doesnot performs well in this series

Yes usman is a grinder and defensively very solid in technique and in places like south africa we will need him at no.3 position to safely negotiate the initial overs of new ball because azhar with the form he is in now he will fail to do so

Bhanja has to go, And if azhar is to play he has to bat as opener and do what he does and just take the shine off in SA even if he play like a tailender,, Fakhar to replace imam, his technique isn't ideal to survive there as well and ideally I would bat him in middle order, Harris is best equipped to play pace and swing and should be no 3 Bobby at 4 and Asad at 5 Saad Ali at 6 and sarf at 7 shadab at 8 fahim 9, abbas 10 and SSA at 11. no need for 4th pacers because he often get under bowled

Technically isnt as solid , has a gap between bat and pad and when its moving at high speed these things matter. Abid ali (34 years old) has the best technique in domestic cricket but definitely he is a late bloomer.

Azhar is not the sort of player you'd want to replicate in South Africa, no matter how good Usman's defence is South Africa's pace attack will force a mistake and get him out, the problem being that he'll probably be in single digits when that happens. Would much rather have a stroke player like Saad who might actually have some runs on the board before getting out

Saad Ali should be higher up the pecking order. He has the same average as Usman( perhaps a little better) and scores at a much better SR. His highest FC score 250 something whereas Usman doesn't have a double hundred. He's also younger than Usman. Saad seems to beat or equal Usman in every single aspect.

Usman(if azhar doesnot come into form, he is averaging like 19 in 2018 which is very worrying and usman can play the role of grinder and with solid technique he can negotiate the initial burst of ngidi, rabada, steyn, philander)

It would be nice if posters posted about the game rather than talking about dropping A and B. Let them play full series and then judge on their future. Not long ago Sarfraz was opted from dropping before that Babar from Tests and now we are being told Imam Azhar Ali, Bilal and Hafeez should be dropped. At this rate we should. Field only Pak A.

Being a grinder doesn't mean he has a good technique or are solid, it just means he doesn't have the strokes.

I have seen him and his technique seems decent but doesn't seem to be suited to the bouncier conditions.

Investing in Saad Ali would be a better idea. He has a similar average compared to Usman and seems to have the strokes to be an actual impact player.

Our batting making a hash of getting a decent lead here, lets see if the captain can get runs against a decent side here.

Nothing to take away from Boult though. That was a wonderful delivery and setup.

Really no point of Asad batting at 5 and scoring at 30-40. That's the job for a young player like Babar.

A 32 year old batsman with 50+ tests should be in the top 4 and getting big hundreds.

I don't see anything wrong in this pitch. Both teams have just batted horribly.

Hafeez was the big wicket for NZ. He would've taken the game away had he not gifted his wicket.

Sarfraz is basically a specialist captain from what I've seen across formats.

Not that I follow every game, when I do check scorecards he usually doesn't contribute anything.

If he wasn't captain, he would have been dropped by now.
