Two police officers have been reported killed following an attack at China's consulate in Pakistan's southern coastal city of Karachi, according to reports.

In a phone call to Al Jazeera on Friday, Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) spokesman Jihand Baloch said the armed separatist group was responsible for the attack.

He said that three attackers armed with guns and grenades were involved in the fighting.

Karachi police chief, Amir Shaikh, told Reuters that three attackers were killed outside the consulate compound.

He said they used explosive-filled vehicle in the incident.

I was expecting something like this. Always sad when such things happen but we must stand strong and united. Condolences to the families of the departed. We know exactly who is against CPEC.

Two policemen have been killed and a security guard injured in an armed attack on the Chinese consulate in the Pakistani coastal city of Karachi.

Gunshots were heard at about 09:30 local time (04:30 GMT) outside the consulate in the upmarket Clifton area, police said.

Up to four gunmen tried to enter the consulate but were stopped by security guards at a checkpoint, reports said.

Three attackers have been killed by police in an exchange of gunfire.

There is a heavy police presence in the area which has been cordoned off.

All the staff inside the consulate are safe, local media reports said.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a blast, and local TV channels have broadcast images of a plume of smoke.

A separatist group from the province of Balochistan has said it carried out the attack.

China, which neighbours Pakistan, is a close ally and the country's main benefactor, investing huge amount of money in infrastructure projects.

Balochistan, Pakistan's poorest province, is at the centre of a major Chinese investment project.

20 killed, at least 30 injured in explosion in lower Orakzai agency in Hangu

Twenty people have been killed and at least 30 injured in an explosion in Kalaya Bazar area of lower Orakzai agency of Hangu district, DawnNewsTV reported on Friday quoting the political administration of the region.

The explosion reportedly took place near an imambargah. The injured have been shifted to the KDA teaching hospital in Kohat.

Nature of the blast is so far unknown. Security sources have told DawnNewsTV that a rescue and search operation is underway in the area. However, they have refrained from providing the exact number of casualties in the explosion.

Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan condemned the attack, saying that enemies have not been able to digest peace in the province.

Happened around the same time as the attack on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi. Looks like a pattern being followed in different places to spread fear and unrest among people.

So much for eradicating terrorism. Sad to see the loss of lives. The government of Pakistan should now put its foot down on terrorists and avoid making bold claims on this issue.

theyre sleeping and playing nice all the time. We know who is behind all of this. We know where they are based. We know who supports them but keep playing nice. This was expected after what happened in afghanistan over the last few weeks.

Enough is enough. I dont want to hear about the governor of Sindh getting a report, or the governor KP visiting the bereaved. I want to see our artillery on the border and shelling the living kahoonas out of the criminals on across the border. We wouldnt tolerate it on the LOC so why on this border??

we need a defacto buffer zone between Pakistan and Afghanistan..end of.

We don’t know everything about them. The asymmetrical nature of terrorism is such that even if a terrorist organisation is backed and supported by another country attacking that country is not a viable option. In the end it all boils down to the quality of surveillance and intelligence gathering. Terrorists took a serving police officer from right under our noses and we found out that our smart capital city was not so smart after all. Knee jerk reactions wouldn’t change the ground realities. We need to improve the quality of surveillance and intelligence gathering. So like it or not we need better relationship with USA to help us on this issue. They have the best surveillance mechanism and we need that mechanism to improve our security. That’s why the government should stop making statements and start doing groundwork to stop such attacks in the future.

This. We have been too soft for far too long. Most of terror networks in Pakistan have been destroyed and likes of Kulbushan are caught. Now we should fight this war in Afghanistan, recruiters and financiers of terrorists there should be eliminated. Any Indian presence in Afghanistan near Pakistan border should not be tolerated. We should use Afghan Taliban too. A buffer zone between two countries should have established a long way back along with fencing of the whole border but we were too lenient and defensive .

We have to take these measures or otherwise dead bodies will keep piling up. Army has been too soft on this and unfortunately Imran Khan also has a soft spot regarding Afghanistan so I do not see any change in strategy.

We know who is behind the BLA and their offshoots. We know who supplies them. yes on a ground, technical level we are a bit short but like you said we need to improve our Humnit. However we are ultimatly a poor country and our enemies have a hell of a lot more money than us. Considering where we were in 2009-2012 the country is doing a lot better. More needs to be done and the main thing is brining peace and stability to afghanistan. unfortunatley this cant be possible while the US maintains troops there. Thus the cycle is endless. As for asking for help from US intelligence. Considering they are part of the problem not the solution, no thanks.

Agree that US is part of the problem but the reality is that they have the technology and we are a poor country. So if their help, on the technological front, can help us in reducing the risk of terrorism then it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing.

Chinese consulate attack mastermind undergoing treatment in New Delhi: sources

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi was planned by banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) commander Aslam alias Achhu , Dunya News reported on Friday.

Sources told Dunya News that Achhu, who planned the attack on the Chinese consulate, is currently under treatment at Max Hospital in New Delhi, after being injured in an operation by Pakistani security forces near Sibi.

“Achhu is one of the key commanders of BLA,” sources said and added he is said to be involved in several incidents of terrorism and targeted killings in Quetta.

According to initial report, the attackers were identified as Abdur Razzaq, Azal Khan Marri alias Sangat Dada and Raees Baloch.

Abdur Razzaq was a government Balochistan employee and a resident of district Kharaan.

The law-enforcement agencies prepared the initial report and presented it to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Earlier, four people were killed when gunmen armed with hand grenades and a suicide vest stormed the Chinese consulate in the Pakistani city of Karachi.

Security forces had secured the area after the attack, the latest assault on Chinese nationals in the country, where Beijing has poured billions of dollars into one of the largest projects in its massive Belt and Road programme.

China "strongly condemned" the attack and asked Pakistan to take measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and institutions in the country, as well as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) mega-project.

Three gunmen tried to enter the consulate in the southern port city, but were intercepted by guards at a checkpoint.

Two suspected facilitators of Chinese consulate attack arrested

KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies arrested two suspected facilitators involved in Friday’s terrorist attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi.

The two suspects were arrested from Karachi and Shahdadpur –around 200 kilometres from the metropolis – in a joint operation by police and other law enforcement agencies, sources said earlier today.

At least one of the suspects is believed to have been in contact with the terrorists before they attacked the consulate, the sources said.

The suspects are being interrogated at an undisclosed location. Their identities have not been revealed yet.

Security forces on Friday foiled an attack on the Chinese consulate located in Karachi’s upscale Clifton, killing all three terrorists and seizing at least nine hand grenades, Kalashnikov bullets, magazines and explosives.

Two policemen, ASI Ashraf Dawood and Constable Amir, were martyred in the operation to foil the attack. Two civilians, a father and a son who had come from Quetta for visas, were also killed, police said after reviewing initial information. A security guard was critically injured.

Police on Saturday registered a case against the terrorist attack, nominating the three attackers, who were shot dead by the forces, in the FIR.

Terrorists involved in attack on Chinese Consulate in Karachi identified: sources

According to sources, one of the attackers was identified as Razzaq, a resident of Kharan, while the others were identified as Azal Khan Mari alias Sangat Dada, and Raees Baloch.

The attack was orchestrated by the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army commander Aslam alias 'Achchu', sources informed Geo News. He is currently under treatment at Max Hospital in New Delhi.

Earlier today, a forensic report on the incident revealed presence of fingerprints of more than three people on the car purportedly used by the attackers. The car, a white 2006 model, was registered by a resident of Nazimabad area of Karachi. It had been sold six years ago, and CPLC records showed that the car had not been stolen, it emerged yesterday.

Whenever anything Chinese related is attacked in Pakistan people shout about how India must be involved. Yet when the dust settles the India angle soon disappears. As if India would be stupid enough to risk it's massive economic ties and relative peace with a power like China for something like this. Pakistan have, in the past, even accused the UAE and Russia of sponsoring Baluch insurgents yet provide no proof whatsoever for this after the initial accusations.

Investigation agencies trace path of Chinese consulate attackers

KARACHI: Investigation agencies made a major breakthrough on Sunday as they traced the path used by terrorists for Friday’s attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi.

“The attackers reached Karachi via Hub on the morning of the attack,” sources said.

“From Hub, the attackers took the Sher Shah Road for Mai Kolachi and reached the Chinese consulate through the Boat Basin route,” sources added.

The sources further said that the terrorists conducted recce of the area few hours before attacking it and they used a rented car.

“CCTV footage of their path is being obtained,” the sources continued.

On Friday morning, Pakistani security forces foiled an attack on the Chinese Consulate in the Clifton Block-4 area of the city.

Terrorists were trying to enter the consulate from the visa issuance section but were intercepted by security personnel at a checkpoint. Two policemen, Assistant Sub Inspector Ashraf Dawood and Constable Amir, were martyred and a security guard injured as three gunmen tried to enter the consulate around 9:00am. Two visa applicants from Quetta, a father and son identified as Niaz Muhammad and Muhammad Zahir Shah, also lost their lives in the attack. The three attackers were killed in the operation.

As an Indian like others it will be hard for you accept India insitages terrorism even though you know the reality of Kashmir.

Indian spy was caught in the region these terrorists are from. US officials have confirmed India is causing trouble for Pakistan in Afghanistan. Indian media is glorying these terrorists and harbouring their leaders.

Deputy Chief of Mission of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan Lijian Zhao on Monday announced that a Chinese citizen had decided to donate one month's salary to the families of the policemen who were martyred in an attack on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi last week.

Zhao, while addressing a donation ceremony in Islamabad alongside Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, said the donor believed that Pak-China friendship was not simply empty words but "rooted in the hearts of the people of the two countries".

The Chinese official said they would like to give terrorists the message that their efforts at sabotaging Pak-China friendship will never succeed.

The deputy chief of mission said that the event was voluntarily organised by a community of Chinese citizens in Pakistan, and thanked those who were making donations.

"They are here today to try to show their love to the two policemen who sacrificed their lives in the attack on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi," Zhao said, adding that they also wished to show their regard for law enforcement officials and the government for their "heroic contribution" and "their love for the Chinese people".

Zhao also thanked the information minister for attending the event, saying it showed the "great importance attached to the initiative by the Pakistani government".

He had tweeted on Sunday highlighting a news report in a Chinese publication about donations for the martyred police officials. Zhao was reportedly among those who had contributed.

The information minister appreciated the Chinese initiative to collect donations for the martyrs of the consulate attack. He said the gesture clearly reflected the strong bonds between the two countries, Radio Pakistan reported.

Chaudhry claimed that inimical foreign elements are behind the attack, adding that these forces cannot sabotage deep-rooted and time-tested Pak-China relations.

He said that the world fully knows who stands for peace and stability in the region and who is trying to sabotage it.

Chinese consulate attack planned in Afghanistan, funded by RAW: AIG

Sindh Additional Inspector-General Amir Shaikh claimed on Friday that Indian spy agency, RAW, sponsored the November attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Shaikh said the attack was executed by members of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) with support from the Indian intelligence agency. “The attack was planned in Afghanistan. There have been reports that the mastermind, Aslam alia Achu, was killed in Kandahar, but we cannot believe it unless we see a body or other evidence,” he said.

Sharing details of the investigation, Shaikh said multiple raids were conducted in various parts of Balochistan and Sindh.

He said five facilitators were arrested from Karachi, Hub and Quetta, while several other suspects were set free after interrogation.

“The weapons used in the attack were brought to Karachi from Balochistan on a train, and were hidden at a house in Baldia Town.”

Shaikh said Aslam alias Achu’s relatives were also among the attackers, identifying a man named Bashir Zeb as the person who acted as the group’s leader.

“The suspect had been making trips to Karachi for the past four to five months. These terrorists had planned more attacks with Indian support.”

On November 23, security forces staved off a brazen attempt by BLA terrorists to storm the Chinese consulate located in the upscale Clifton neighbourhood of Karachi.

Four people – including two police officials – were martyred before all the three terrorists were taken down by security forces. The diplomatic staff inside the consulate remained unhurt.

Still no comment by the Chinese on the statements made by the Karachi police who have apparently solved this case.

Attacking a consulate is akin to an act of war - if Afghanistan and India are involved why are the Chinese silent?

IIRC Iran made no statements when Pakistan allegedly captured Yadav on Iranian soil, and still hasn't to do this day - almost 3 years later.

    haha.

Atleast if they said from Afghanistani soil it would be more believable. As Indians do have business interests there, and Pakistan would be more capable of traversing that border to kidnap someone. Any reaction from Afghan government wouldn't really have much weight.

But I dont think Pakistan would create an international incident with Iran by crossing their border to kidnap someone.

You're one of the most intelligent posters on this forum and someone whose viewpoints I deeply respect. In fact, it's always interesting to read your posts because they were well thought out and balanced.

However, I can say with some certainty that India has provided logistical support to BLA. Maybe not to the extent that Pakistan has aided the Kashmir cause. To doubt that is okay but to completely disregard that is naive.

Afghanistan has been guilty of not acting against TTP agents in the same way Pakistan has always provided backing for the Afghan Taliban.

This is not anything new or eye-opening. It's proxy wars between two nuclear states that should never ever go to war again.
