Far from being demolished. Toss screwed us in SA and even after that we were 2-1. In Eng, we fought pound for pound in every session.

But the question is not me bragging. Just read the posts in 1st few pages of the thread. Supporters of ultra minnow garbage teams who never even gets invited to play is taking a mickey out of India (no.1 team) is an irony.

Gritty Pujara century helps India recover to reach 250/9

Chetshwar Pujara's battling 123 – his 16th Test century – helped India bounce back after a poor start to end the first day of the first Test against Australia in Adelaide on 250/9.

The honours, however, went to Australia as they struck four times in the morning after being asked to field and chipped away at India's resistance through the day

Pujara is dismissed just before the end of play, but his century has helped India get to 250/9.

Australia will still be delighted, having been asked to field. #AUSvIND SCORECARD ⬇️http://bit.ly/AusvInd4

Pujara, who scored his first Test century in Australia and comfortably topped his previous best of 73, led India's fightback and took them past the 200-run mark in the final session of the day before being run out by Pat Cummins just before stumps, leaving Mohammed Shami remained unbeaten on six.

Earlier, Virat Kohli won the toss and opted for first strike on a good batting surface. However, his plans didn't go the way he would have wanted.

First, India lost KL Rahul in just the second over as he edged one off Josh Hazlewood to Aaron Finch at third slip.

Shortly after, the visitors lost their other opener, Murali Vijay, and the crucial wicket of Kohli, as Australia reduced India to 19/3 inside 11 overs.

Mitchell Starc dismissed Vijay for 11 after the opener edged behind to Tim Paine, and soon after, Pat Cummins struck in his first over to get the big wicket of Kohli for 3. Kohli went for a drive to one well outside the off stump, and Usman Khawaja took a stunning catch at gully flying to his left and grabbing it with one hand.

At that point, India needed a partnership and just when Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane (13) had started to build one, Hazlewood returned to pick up his second wicket as Rahane threw it away, edging to Peter Handscomb at second slip.

By lunch, India were 56/4. In the second session, an aggressive Rohit Sharma built a 45-run fifth-wicket partnership with Pujara. His innings of 37 ended when, one ball after hitting his third six – debutant Marcus Harris parrying the ball over the line after a smart effort – he attempted a repeat and holed out to Harris.

Wickets kept on falling from one end but Pujara stood firm, building another valuable partnership with Rishabh Pant, the No.7. Together they added 41 runs before Lyon sent back Pant, who was caught behind for 25.

When Ravichandran Ashwin came in to bat, India were struggling at 127/6. Along with Pujara, he shared a key stand – the highest of the innings – of 62 runs.

They both made the Australia bowlers toil in the first hour of the final session before India lost Ashwin for 25. Later, Ishant Sharma was clean bowled by Starc for four even as Pujara went past his personal milestone, walking back only after making sure that India were in a competitive position.

Pitch is lively with enough seam movement to keep the bowlers interested, and Lyon was getting it to rip and bounce. 300 would have been a very good 1st innings total here, so 250 isn't a bad one to start with. Hopefully the last pair can add 15-20 runs as well.

I'm expecting our bowlers to do well too as it's not a outrightly flat patta.

Ian Chappell: Australia comfortably ahead of India after day one of first Test

Former Australian captain Ian Chappell has praised the Australian bowlers for their game plan against India’s top order after a successful first day.

The first session saw India come out in sweltering heat at the Adelaide Oval, but it was the Australian bowlers that started on fire, with three of India’s top four removed in the first hour of play.

While Australia was certainly aided by some poor strokeplay from the likes of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, Chappell said Australia’s plan was on point.

“Some of the shots early on, I think you've got to give the credit to the Australian bowlers because they tempted the Indian top order by bowling full,” Chappell told Wide World of Sports.

“It was probably 50-50, some poor shot selection, but also some smart bowling from the Australians.”

With carnage all unfolding around him throughout the day, Cheteshwar Pujara outshined the sexier names in the Indian lineup en-route to a sterling 123, but Chappell suggested that Australia was still well ahead of the tourists.

“Australia's got to take the honours comfortably,” he said.

“You've virtually bowled the opposition out for 250 on the first day in Adelaide, particularly when it's in the high-30s temperature-wise.

“The bowling side has got to be very happy. But that's then dependent on how they bat.”

Looking forward to day two, Chappell said that the bowling side needs to capitalise on the new ball if they are to a long, hard stint in the field.

“If you don't get wickets with the new ball, good luck, you're in trouble then,” he said.

“It'll still be helpful with the new ball because there's a bit of grass on the track.

“You've got to bowl well with the new ball and get some wickets. Then the hard work comes in the second and third session because as the ball gets older, the wicket definitely flattens out.”

While striking with the new ball as Australia did is paramount for India, a lot of the tourists’ bowling burden will fall to off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ashwin has enjoyed another successful calendar year with 32 wickets in 10 games at an average of 25.46 in 2018, but he will be anxious to improve on his paltry record in Australian conditions where he has taken just 21 wickets in seven Tests at an average of 54.71.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon was able to extract some turn out of the wicket, and Chappell suggested that Ashwin’s propensity to put overspin on the ball should see him get assistance out of the wicket.

“Overspin is the most important thing in Adelaide and both Nathan Lyon and Ashwin do get a bit of overspin,” he said.

“That gets you the extra bounce and that's what gets (batsmen) in trouble.”

India will begin day two with Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah at the crease looking to add to their first innings total.

    Good job today.

    Rahane has become rahane do
what is vijay doing in the team is beyond any understanding.
Dhawan, though failed, can score 15-20 runs which over the hill vijay cannot do.
Rahul, looks like the guy is low on confidence and form.

    Good job today.

    Rahane has become rahane do
what is vijay doing in the team is beyond any understanding.
Dhawan, though failed, can score 15-20 runs which over the hill vijay cannot do.
Rahul, looks like the guy is low on confidence and form.
Rahane is done and dusted. He is just not the same guy of 2014 -15... Mentally weak and a horrible temperament. He should go back to Ranji and gain some confidence. Must play Vihari at 5 in Perth.

And the Perth pitch is a screamer the ODI against SA showed how dangerous the Perth pitch is, but then again all the Indians are beating their chest about how wonderful there are.

The only person beating his chest from 1st ball up unti now is you. I didnt see any Indian poster went OTT here.

BTW, dude sorry to say...you got a very poor command over English for an Aussie.

    Pujara on the pitch
"I would say it is a decent total because there is enough turn," Pujara said of India's 250 for 9. "Ashwin will also come into play. It is not an easy wicket to bat on. Sometimes when you are seeing it on TV, it doesn't look like it is doing a lot but when I batted in the first and second sessions, I felt it wasn't easy to bat on. I will share my experience of what line and length to bowl on this pitch with our fast bowlers.

"It is the grass. The odd ball is skidding on, and the odd ball is holding a bit more from the grass. I would say it is kind of a two-paced pitch, and it is not easy to bat on."
Some were calling it a flat wicket! Hope it continues to play like this tomorrow.

Maybe a season of county cricket next year after the WC will help (for Rahul as well please). Seems to have worked well for Pujara.

The pitch has help for bowlers. Those who think it is a 500 runs pitch clearly know less about the pitch conditions that what they think they know.

He is an Australian by friend. U need to get relaxed. We know that India had a bad day in the office and there will be many more bad days like this in the upcoming tests as well. U need to make urself mentally prepared my dear. His second string team have just smashed the so called no 1 team today and they r in the driving seat. So, he has every right to beat his chest.

I told u that this would happen after the practice match. This is just a start. Australia will just go from strength to strength from here on.

5 soft dismissals from India. Got to put away those 45 degree shots in Australia. Playing those expansive drives well outside off stump in the first session of a Test is inexcusable.

Credit to Pujara for gutting it out.

Yeah, top 3/4 Indian bats did that and the results should not surprise anyone.

Hey Eshen aka Prince_...the only person need to relax is you. There was enough moisture in the 1st half of the morning and their bowling is top notch. Starc-Cummins-Hazelwood is their main bowling attack and any team can get into trouble facing them. What matters is how we recovered at the end. We have crossed 250 already with 1 wicket in hand. That is the hall mark of a no.1 test team and beauty of test cricket.

But then again as a 9th rank team supporter, I expect you to not know much about test cricket.

In cricketing aspects yes. He can beat the chest as much as he want.

But he has crossed that line many times which even Pak fans don't cross.

He is an immature poster who tries to rile up the crowd via comments that aren't welcome by anyone.

This looks like a low-scoring match on the lines of 250-325 ish.
Aus batsmen are not that strong, their bowling was good today. I highly doubt their batsman could deliver.
My only worry is ashwin, who is ash+loss outside India - excluding windies that is.

    Agree with you.
What is more jocular is the fact that rahane is the vice-captain - when he cannot justify his own position in the team.
    This is his last tour.
    Thanks for the services.

Didn't think India would win the series.

Hillairious how our fans are doing banghra over India losing when this Australian team would beat us black and blue in Australia. Also we are going to draw with am average kiwi side in Asia.

No shame amongst our fans base.

Australia are ahead in this game. Pitch should get better for batting tommorw and they have FTBs to take advantage.
