I’d like to know the reason for this- is it a coaching issue? Issue with fitness & ability?

Ind fast bowlers are consistently bowling at over 140k. How times have changed eh.

Lack of fitness. They might do well in yo-yo tests, but their conditioning is not as good as it should be.

Shaheen is too young and needs to be playing FC/A cricket.

Look at his counterparts from the u19wc, Mavi and Nagarkoti are been given time to develop his body and game.

Amir has never been a test bowler and likely will never be.

With 5 bowlers, 4 of them pacers, Pakistan's bowlers will be well rested to bowl to their potential. Should be clocking higher speeds this time around. I am a bit perplexed with SA's strategy - four pacers and no spinner?

Forget the batting, this is the most disheartening part of the entire tour.

Soul-crushing if your a PAK fan, especially when you see the arch-rivals over in AUS being hailed as the best bowling attack in the world.

How can the cricketing administration of Pakistan sleep at night knowing this?

The Same Bowling coach that was being heavily praised for his work in the Champion's trophy win 2017.

Azhar Mahmood has never truly been a bowler who bowled regularly at 140, he was a medium pacer at best throughout his career.

There is something seriously wrong with Amir. He never was a 125-130 kph bowler. What happened?

Even after a lay off of 5 years he used to clock 140+ kph regularly.

According to the above graphic I posted, pakistan has only touched 140 in 25 balls the whole series, most of them by Shaheen. Pakistani fast bowlers have bowled 1195 balls in the first two matches. Meanwhile South African bowlers fast have bowled 412 140+ balls out of 1265. Which means 2% of Pak fast balls have touched 140, 1 in 50 balls, while 33% of SA fast balls have been 140+, 1 in 3 balls

The present Pakistani bowlers are not fit enough by and large. Have seen many people blame the standard of domestic cricket wickets in Pakistan and the state of the ball to blame. Even Wahab Riaz in a recent interview mentioned the following points in that interview when asked for his opinion

    - Domestic Cricket wickets and weather conditions especially in Punjab mean the wickets being prepared are slow, low bounce and where the ball swings and seams a lot and the grey ball being used in domestic cricket provides plenty of assistance to medium pacers bowling at 125-130 km/hr. These medium pacers rely on the pitch to do the job, they are not forced to work hard for wickets and end result is that you plenty of medium pacers topping domestic charts year after year. Batting sides are unable to play and last very long getting bowled out very cheaply. End result is you have low strike rate, low averaging, stroke play deficient batsmen with no patience or temperament to score big runs. You have bowlers bowling at low speeds who aren't used to bowling long spells and more than second, third spells and these bowlers get brutally exposed in international cricket where they have to bowl with the kookaburra ball and bowl in much flatter conditions.

He is off the opinion that domestic wickets need massive improvement, bowlers need to be made to work a lot harder for wickets, get used to bowling in long lengthy and further spells and the board needs to introduce the kookaburra ball in domestic cricket no matter how expensive it is.

That is quite a good summary of the issues.

Flatter wickets would also allow the batsmen to learn the art of building innings, the number of hundreds in Pakistan's FC seasons is generally quite a bit lower than the other top cricketing nations. Only a handful of batsmen can be counted on to hit hundreds regularly.

It's quite literally shocking to see the spreds the pakistan bowlers are bowling atm. Aamir should never play test cricket they hae literally burned him to the ground. He needs to get his speed back to 140+ by the time world cup comes in few months time. And we desperately need to blood in haris rauf that guy is the speedster we need and bowl we spred and accuracy.

How have we ran him into the ground? Hasan played all tests in the new Zealand series, on the dead pitches, Amir wasn't, yet Hasan is still clocking better speeds than Amir. It's clear that Amir either isn't fit enough, or he just doesn't want to give his all.

Wasn't he dropped for UAE series? That's enough rest and it's just 3 tests series, not 5 tests. Bowling 120-130 consistently is not due to getting over bowled. He simply doesn't have fitness to bowl at higher speed for a longer period. He do it in T-20 and ODIs.

I think he still has something to offer in longer format. He actually bowled better than I expected in this series, but he needs to improve his fitness.

Shaheen can certainly become a lot quicker, and if he maintains his lengths and swing hell be a handful.
