SA should remember that they are batting last and they donít want to expose their brittle middle order to Abbas who will love this pitch.

SA should go for the kill now.

This would be an innings defeat unless SA implode which they also have a tendency to do so. Otherwise, I have seen no swing and no seam. This pitch only has pace and bounce and that too will probably disappear as the day goes on. SA will make merry here with our toothless bowling attack.

Agree with commies, more than seam and swing its the bounce and pace which is causing problem for Pakistani batsmen.

Shan is our best batsman in this series.

Who are other good batsmen against bounce and pace in Pakistan? Babar is good and Haris is injured.

Diamond ground Islamabad is the paciest and bounciest wicket in Pakistan so hopefully they include Abid in next match.

The ball to Babar bounced less. You dont expect that to happen on 1st day 21st over. He did the right thing to leave that ball imo.

We're going to see a benign pitch at Wanderers after the fiasco last year, me thinks. But one can always expect pace and bounce in Highveld.

Our fast bowlers are for show only. Their bravado lasts for the first session only after which they start trundling harmlessly. South Africa would easily post 300+ here unless they self-destruct. Only a fluke 200 partnership can save us here.

Ridiculous by Pakistan... Look like club level batters... Azhar has been sorted for the series by Oliver... Asad looked good but got a beauty... I wonder doesn't Pakistan have better batters in domestic... Shan looks good yet he wasn't in UAE... This is nonsense.. I guess sami Aslam was better say much much better in England in 2016 than Fakhar and imam..what happened to him?? Looking the way they handle I guess only Shan, asad and Babar deserve place among batters in current lineup.. Rest 3spots are vacant for me

Make no mistake: This is par score at the moment, 82/5, batting first. You'd be delusional to expect Pakistan top order to post 200 for 5 before the game began.

Anyone's game from hereon. Pakistan get to 200, there is every chance to be competitive.

Sami has his issue, no doubt but in last 10 years Pakistanís biggest accomplishment was 2-2 in England, Sami was the reason that happened. He showed everybody how to bat in England. That allowed us to get back into the series. He would have been much better here as well in seeing off new ball.

He is not ideal opener but we have very low standards. This series tells you one more thing why Azhar can only open, he can block new ball but playing short pitch is way above his level. He has been horrible with short pitch.m and this is not the first time, last time he was doing exactly that...

Pakistani think tank also works like PP, lot of emotions and hope rather than substance and data....

He was a Pujara type blocker. Pakistani fans probably prefer 'flashier' batsmen.

Check his average, strike rate and number of centuries after 13 tests and you'll see whats wrong with Sami Aslam. Furthermore he looked toothless in Australia. Few posters here make a big deal about his performance in England where all his runs came in on test on a slow, flat Edgbaston wicket. Even the out of form Azhar Ali scored 139 there.

On the point of the schedule, we played three T20Is against both Australia and New Zealand. If you reduced them to one each, you could've shifted the Test series earlier and allowed enough space in the schedule to play one more practice match in South Africa.

It's not insignificant that our last two Test series in England came after playing several tour matches before the first Test.

However that being said, this batting unit is so shoddy that it probably wouldn't change the outcome of this series.

Didn't score enough runs, looked poor at the crease and sounds bitter in interviews.

I guess Pakistan wants it's youngsters to fail.. No Shaan in UAE where Hafeez uncle made century only to retire... Why is it always that Pakistan carry a new opener to overseas and TTF on placid UAE/Asian pitches?? Remember Umar Akin to England in 2010, sami Aslam to England in 2016,Imam to SA... And so on??

He is not ideal opener but we have very low standards. This series tells you one more thing why Azhar can only open, he can block new ball but playing short pitch is way above his level. He has been horrible with short pitch.m and this is not the first time, last time he was doing exactly that...

Pakistani think tank also works like PP, lot of emotions and hope rather than substance and data....
Actually you couldn't be any further from the truth. Sami Aslam didn't play in Lords and failed in Oval where Pakistan won those tests in London.

He only performed in Edgbaston with 2 half centuries but Pakistan lost that test.

If you were to check his average, strike rate and ton count along with his toothless display in Australia where he was exposed against the short ball, you'll see why he's actually a garbage batsman.
