I am going to talk about 3 issues.
Number 1, the timing of the matches. I see the Friday (holiday) matches will be played at 2 PM & 7 PM local time. Matches on other days will be played at 12.30 PM & 5.20 PM local time. Now, when you're able to held the matches at 2 & 7 PM local time then why would you have placed the other days matches at an inconvenient 12.30 PM & 5.20 PM local ? I can understand the double headers to accommodate all the matches. Generally, the offices run until 5/6 PM. You want them to attend at least the evening matches and 5.20 PM is tricky.
The ideal double header times are 4.30 PM & 8.30 PM local like the IPL. I'm assuming the early start is due to the fogg. But 12.30 PM & 5.20 PM starts are a big letdown from me when you are going to play Friday matches at 2 PM & 7 PM. For me, all matches should be played at 2 PM & 7 PM.
Number 2, as the first match of the double header will be missed by the office going people, I believe the matches/extended highlights should be uploaded on online platform, maybe after a few days of the match.
Number 3, the quality of the pitches should be improved. Slow low pitches in T20s is a bit disappointing from an audience perspective. You want to see 4s and 6s being hit and runs ranging from 160-180. The high scoring IPL pitches should be replicated. On another front, I'm glad that BPL has reverted to 4 overseas in the XI. 5 overseas in the XI and playing mostly overseas allrounders were totally pushing the local players on a minor role and it was difficult to unearth local potential. 4 overseas in the XI is welcomed.
Now coming to the first match, why there is no Chris Gayle & AB De Villiers in the Rangpur Riders playing XI ?
Thoughts ?

Afridi cameo takes Comilla to victory
Shahid Afridi starred with a 25-ball 39 to take Comilla Victorians to victory over Sylhet Sixers on the second day of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
It turned out to be another low-scoring encounter in the early afternoon kick-off during the second day of the Bangladesh Premier League as Comilla Victorians defeated Sylhet Sixers by four wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
Tamim Iqbal played a handy 34-ball 35 at the top of the innings before a cameo knock from Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi saw Comilla overhaul the required runs after restricting Sylhet to 127 for 8.
The match was touted as the clash between Australia duo Steve Smith and David Warner – both serving international bans after a ball-tampering row last year that rocked Australia cricket -- as they led their respective teams out in the middle. The duo are playing their first season in the country’s premier T20 competition and were handed the captaincy of their respective sides. The two captains, all smiles in the lead-up to the match did not have the best debut as both fell for low scores. Warner did not have the rub of the green when he was wrongly given out after a mix-up with his batting partner Towhid Hridoy. Smith was given out after a review was taken as the ball had appeared to deflect slightly after moving past his bat. The decision left questions in viewer’ minds.
Sylhet started badly after being sent in to bat, losing Liton Das for 1 before the mix-up saw Warner leave. Towhid himself struggled to get going, perhaps the captain’s dismissal still playing on his mind and was out leg-before after a struggling 24-ball 8. Sabbir Rahman fell to a poor shot before Nicholas Pooran and Alok Kapali’s 66-run stand for the sixth-wicket allowed Sixers to reach 127 for 8 wickets. Pooran hit a 26-ball 41, laced with five fours and two sixes while Kapali contributed with a 20-ball 19.
Comilla did not have the best of starts either, losing Evin Lewis (5) and Imrul Kayes (0) in quick succession. Smith joined the steady Tamim at the other end to take the score past 50 before he nicked Al Amin through to the wicket-keeper Liton Das. Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane then bagged Shoaib Malik and Anamul Haque to bring Sylhet back into the game. Tamim had been carrying the innings but the second mix-up of the match took place between him and Shahid Afridi. Pooran’s direct hit saw Tamim walk and it was left to Afridi to take Sixers to victory and he did it in style. He took Mohammad Irfan for 10 with a six and a four in the same over (17th) in which Tamim fell. Taskin Ahmed was lofted over mid-off for six before a slash over point in the next delivery got the equation in Sixers’ favour. Afridi then hit the penultimate ball of the last over, bowled by Kapali for four to seize the win.

And pundits in Aus are losing it that they are playing in bpl when they should have been playing the BBL especially as it was the day Aus were asked to follow on first time since late 80s.

What's the use of banning Warner and Smith? They are earning money everywhere. Wouldn't it have been better to fine them and use their services in Aus's favour? Could have avoided the humiliation they received from India.

One thing I'm surprised of is the production quality, it is 10 times better than the PSL. For a UK viewer like myself it comes on a HD channel with crisp clear quality, PSL has always been on PTV with cameras that seem to go to only 480p.

BPL has poor marketing out of all the leagues, otherwise it has much better potentials. Warner and Smith needs all the exposure to cricket as possible.
Besides I am assuming they were paid at least around $200k for few weeks of play plus 5 star hotel treatment and staying relevant in cricket is way better than sitting in a bench counting stars.

If there are seven teams named after seven cities then there should be matches in all seven places. But it can be seen that all matches are being held in just three places-Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong. What about matches in four other places viz. Comilla, Rangpur, Khulna , Rajshahi ? If it is because of logistical/ infrastructure reasons, then that needs to be addressed otherwise it looks like trying to somehow ape other leagues without possessing the necessary infrastructure.

Looks like a total flop show this year's BPL. Lack of public interest, below par coverage, poor pitches and awful playing conditions, basically everything a T20 league should not have is available in BPL. On top of that, because BD is a 10th rank t20 side and borderline minnows in that format, the local talent are abysmal. Mind you, you can hire best of international players but local talent is key to have a successful T20 league. I think this will be the last edition of BPL unless they change things drastically.

So Afridi is gone when I think at last he bat with sensibility, he just hit him 4 and six goes for another one and he's gone.. BTW the six is just clears the ropes but it was 84 meters long.. did they playing in a big ground..

Just tried to watch the match where Smith and Warner were playing. Needless to say, terrible all around. And the color contrast looks like this was being shown from the early 90's. It's 2019, where are the flamboyant color.

Where 170 plus score is a regular in big bash, our BPL is producing 63 and below par scores.

A special temporary courthouse at Dhaka's main cricket stadium expelled 20 punters for placing illegal bets during the first three days of the Bangladesh Premier League, an official said Wednesday.
Betting is illegal in Bangladesh but rampant during cricket matches, where gamblers exploit a brief delay between live play and the official broadcast of results to place frantic bets.
Those caught are hauled from the stands and tried on the spot by judges stationed at stadiums across the cricket-mad South Asian country during international matches and the lucrative Twenty20 BPL tournament.
The temporary court at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium fined 20 gamblers and barred them from the grounds in the first three days of the BPL, which started Sunday.
Six Indians were among those slapped with fines up to 4,000 taka ($48) for infringements, said executive magistrate Imrul Hasan, the judge who presided at the special court.
"They were caught on the grounds placing live bets with their mobile phones. They will not be allowed to watch any more BPL games this season," he said.
Nearly 80 spectators were thrown out of BPL matches for placing bets using mobile phones during the last edition of the Twenty20 franchise. At least a dozen were foreigners.
The Bangladesh tournament has lured foreign stars with top-notch salaries to play the short format league, including Australian big hitters Steve Smith and David Warner.
The BPL was dogged by match-fixing scandals and delayed pay for some foreign players after it started in 2011. After a one-year suspension in 2015 it has been staged without serious controversy.
The BPL finishes February 8.

What an amazing team work, brilliant athleticism and awareness by Andre Russell, then to pull it back to Pollard who also showed great awareness running towards it, and catch that to get the dangerman Gayle out like that.

This surely has to be one of the worst leagues in cricket? Looks like Steve Smith was finding an excuse for escape. BCB should hv invested this money on developing their first class cricket and not creating this farce.
