Until we pick the right players for right format we will see this issue... Abid Ali for ODIs and not for tests... Someone should asks Inzi what is he eating these days...

Pick the players who are performing for season after season and you will see the difference, may be not major difference but definitely not worse than this..

I would take the Pakistan test and ODI sides of 2009 over 2019 any day of the week. The same T20I side in 2009 would struggle today with some very weak batsmen however.
That same NZ team proceeded to beat us into submission in the UAE few months later. The chaos was such that YK lost the dressing room in emphatic fashion, and went fishing for the rest of 2009 The chaos was such that we were relying on Muhammad Amir and Saeed Ajmal's batting to save us from impending humiliation when we were 100 off for 9 down chasing a modest score

Also, we got beat by a NZ team relying on Ian Buttler, Kyle Mills and Jacob Oram as seamers

Is this pitch really this difficult to bat on or is it just some poor batting?

About time someone in PCB asks Inzi to take a hike, resign and leave the team from destroying further.

Today Abbas the nightwatchman with his half technique carried himself and selectors opener nephew who was scared to face Philander. Got hit on the head but showed guts our 5 batsmen failed to show.

Shan got out on similar delivery from the 2nd test where Steyn bowled similar 4th stump line that moved sideways and took his edge. Azhar was being Azhar nothing but a joke.

    CSA Media Release :

PAKISTAN STUN PROTEAS IN FINAL SESSION

    Friday, 11 January 2019

PAKISTAN produced an inspired spell of reverse swing bowling in the period immediately after the tea interval to tear through the Standard Bank Proteas middle and lower order on the opening day of the final Castle Lager Test match at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Friday.

The Proteas, having won the toss on a good batting strip, enjoyed two sparkling sessions of confident and productive strokeplay as they reached 226/3 at the tea interval.

But everything changed when Mohammed Abbas and Mohammed Amir led the way as the Proteas were sent packing for 36/7 in the space of 19.4 overs. The pair had carried the Pakistan attack all day but they finally got the support they needed from Hasan Ali and Farheem Ashraf which was particularly important after Amir left the field, having turned over his left ankle.

In all, the Proteas lost 9/130, having been 132/1 at one stage.

But that was not the end of the drama as Pakistan in turn lost the key wicket of Shan Masood, their most consistent batsman in the series to date, and then their most experienced player, Azhar Ali, to put Vernon Philander on a hat trick. On his previous Test at the Wanderers he had had a spell of 6.3 in 5.2 overs.

However, Pakistan survived to the close without further loss on 17/2 and the onus is now on their batsmen to at least keep them on level terms or preferably turn their bowlers’ efforts into a significant advantage.

The Proteas had dominated the first two sessions with Aiden Markram and Hashim Amla being mainly responsible for their scoring 108 for the loss of Dean Elgar and then a further 118/2 in the second session. Markram and Amla shared a second-wicket partnership of 126 which improved on the previous record against Pakistan, set by Amla and Elgar in the first Test of the current series.

There was a further partnership of 75 for the fourth wicket between Theunis de Bruyn and debutant Zubayr Hamza as the Proteas scored at almost four to the over throughout the first two sessions. Remarkably, the Proteas hit 20 boundaries and a six in the afternoon session.

Markram was as impressive as he had been at PPC Newlands and seemed certain to score his fifth Test century until he was unluckily caught down the leg side when 10 runs short (90 off 124 balls, 16 fours).

Amla, De Bruyn and Hamza all got into the 40s but much more was needed from these batsmen when well set.

Nine of the 10 Proteas wickets were shared by the four seamers with Farheem (3/57) having the best return although Abbas and Amir were the most impressive.

On what basis do you want to assign Masood the captaincy.

Besides our 'seniors' Asad and Azhar are not going anywhere even if Sarafaraz does. And if Sarafaraz is removed, our vice captain will be appointed captain which is also not good because he doesn't deserve a place in the team let alone captaincy but that doesnt mean we destroy Masood who is trying to find his feet in international cricket and this will affect his game negatively, not to mention the internal politics.
We can appoint him VC and train him ,though, to take the place eventually.
Ideally you want an established player however I don't see you suggesting any viable options except complain and whinge about a credible choice.

There was garbage in that side no doubt but the point still stands - there were a far better team than what we're seeing today. At least they won a test match in South Africa back then.

In ODIs they were a world class outfit with a competent batting line up in both the shorter and longer formats. The batting line up of the 2010s and present Pakistan side is what I would call "serious garbage".

At least they won a test match in South Africa. In ODIs they were still a world class outfit as well.

Tomorrow's first session is extremely critical. Ball is perfectly aged, just 9 overs for late movement and 4 pacers will give absolute flat out 24 overs, already they have dented top order and PAK actually is one batsman short, but tail is deep; deeper with Abbas batting at 4. If PAK can reach lunch like 90-4, game should be in balance.

Ball was reversing. Good line and length bowling by Amir. SA caught themselves going nowhere. Lack of experience to see off the passage of play. Also some technically found inadequate. Credit to Pak bowling for not getting carried away with reverse. They will regret for conceding a lot of runs with new ball.

Shafiq and Babar need to bat like they did in the last innings. Imam also needs a big score here otherwise his test career will be put on hold.

Was Abbas reversing the ball as well?

I left the score around 150/2, to find out that saffers were bowled out for 262 was really shocking, I guess pakistanis must be really pleased with this performance until I saw that they lost a couple of wickets too, a pretty even day I suppose, but given the strength of pakistani batting line up I think saffers are still ahead
