Also we need to go with a 6th bowler who is a part timer. Even if we play 2 spinners (2 of Yadav, Chahal or Jadeja) and 2 pacers (Bumrah, and 1 of Shami and Kumar) and Pandya, we need to have another part timer to bowl a few overs incase if one of these gets injured. This is where Jadhav is crucial.
The top 3 and Bumrah can carry India to the semis with any middle order. But I think it is too late to bring in Shaw or Gill. They should just go for Pant/Pandya/Jadhav instead of Dhoni/DK/Jadeja.

Rohit has to hog the strike like a test batsman protecting the tailender. Except in the remaining 4-5 balls he must go in full T20 blaze mode.

    And presto - ODI victory.

Rohit is very close to ODI ATG if not already. Only reason he won't become the greatest ODI opener of all time is because of Tendulkar.

Never thought anybody would be able to challenge Kohli after ABD's retirement. Rohit really turned on the heat.

I like jadhav he isn't a great batsman but put him in at 6 where he can 25-35 at a decent pace, bowl 5-6 ok'ish overs he does his job.

It's the grandpa and the 2 changu mangus in the team at 4 and 5 I have a problem with.

I agree though I would rather get out in the group stage than carry these middle order donkeys around longer, the top 3 and bowling unit screwed us that way in CT.

India will go to NZ after this and a home ODI series Vs Aus. After that IPL...

In the meanwhile surely few of the Indian players will be injured and it will be perfect to get Shaw, Gill or Mayank in the team

Fait point. But Pant, Pandya & Jhadhav play 5-7. We still have the vacant 4th position. Though I suppose there is no getting rid of Dhoni now. We might be able to replace Karthik and Rayudu though.

Then you should also remember Stuart Binny took 6 wickets in the same game. If not, check my DP

BTW, these new guys surprises most teams because of their unknown factor. Olivier surprising Pakistan in last test, mystery spinner like Fizz and Mendis surprising India, Rabada surprising BD on his debut etc.

Avg of 29 doesnt mean he will score only 29 runs in every game. Did you forget the innings he played in the CT final when your team won? He is a hitter and could have played a more defining innings instead of Jadeja.

Played a secondary role to Pujara.

And 80 isn't the same as scoring a century and leading your team.

It is only 20 runs difference. Pujara scored 102. What do you want to prove? Kohli did not help in victory? Only traditional Australian pitch this Summer was at Perth. He did not get support. Like in England and SA. Other type of pitches, players like Pujara can come into the picture. Pujara was the star. But Kohli also did his part. A player is allowed bad form.

Difference between being the star and the support player. And of course there's a difference between 80 and 100.

In their partnership, Pujara was the support player.

Pujara was the one who scored the 100 (got the headlines) and wore their bowlers down.

Kohli was the player who supported Pujara scoring at a quickker pace but it was Pujara who did the actual damage by blunting out the Aussie bowlers and wearing them down for the others to cash in on.

Popular things are mentioned on most occasions. People still talk of Beatles or Sinatra whenever they can...Ipl is something of best among equals and there are no equals in this case.

Best batsman in the world claim is based on the batsman's performance. Kohli has performed and was the lone warrior in many tough games this year. India not winning the game hasn't taken the sheen away from the brilliant hundred in the toughest conditions on this tour.

Nobody forgets these. People still talk about Tendulkar's hundred at Perth and India lost that game. Nobody will forget that Kohli scored 600 runs in Eng last year in tough conditions even though India lost 1-4

I thought you were a Pakistani fan? Have you changed the sides or what? It was your team that won the final where Pandya played a useless inning.

Ask your best among equals to find some finishers for indian LOI teams.

Useless in the final context because India didn't win but that doesn't mean one has to give up. He was the only one fighting and played a brilliant knock. Point is he is better than Jadeja and is an attacking player that can.make a difference. As far as my status goes, yes I'm a Pakistan fan and also an Indian fan. Probably a lot more Indian than Pakistani fan recently because of the way they've been playing.
