Amla is using the same strategy he had against India. Cover the off stump . Watch closely and leave the ball go past right under his eye.

Amir wastes lot of energy in sprinting to the wicket. To prolong his career he has to run little slower.

Shadab still is in T20 mood, therefore tries more variation than accuracy. Without a stock ball, leggi canít be successful. His flight (& drop from above eye line) will also come from that action, as heíll be able to give lot more rotation, and release balls from behind his head. Qadir definitely can help him - his action was most ideal for a leggi with big goggly. But, along with coaching/mentoring Shadab needs to bowl lot more overs in match condition.

CSA Media Release: OLIVIER PUTS THE PROTEAS WELL AHEAD WITH HIS THIRD FIFER

    Saturday, 12 January 2019

DUANNE OLIVIER collected his third five-wicket haul of the Castle Lager Test Series to give the Standard Bank Proteas an invaluable first innings lead on the second day of the third Test match at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Saturday.

Olivier could have had four five-wicket hauls but for a dropped catch in the second match at PPC Newlands and his series tally of 21 improves on the previous record against Pakistan of 20 held by Dale Steyn. He still has a second innings to go in the series and has the chance to break a record that has stood for well over a century.

The current record of 25 for a three-match series stands to the name of Buck Llewellyn who achieved the feat against Australia in 1902.

Olivier’s efforts enabled the Proteas to take a first innings lead of 77 in a low-scoring match and, although the Pakistan bowlers produce another whole-hearted effort second time around, the Proteas were able to extend their overall lead to 212 by the close of play with five wickets still in hand.

The Proteas lead should have been much greater as they produced one of their clumsiest fielding sessions for a long time in the morning session when they dropped four catches and missed a couple of run out chances as well in the opening hour of play.

Had they dismissed Imam-ul-Haq on 13 (he went on to 43 (105 balls, 4 fours) and Sarfraz Ahmed on 8 (50 off 40 balls, 8 fours) as they should have done, Pakistan would have been left a great deal further behind.

All 10 of their wickets fell to catches with all of them, apart from the two by Zubayr Hamza at short leg, being taken behind the stumps including one on the fine leg boundary by Kagiso Rabada.

The dismissal of Babar Azam (49 off 55 balls, 10 fours) in this fashion was a disaster for Pakistan as they lost their last five wickets for just 16 runs.

He and Sarfraz had produced an exhilarating partnership on either side of the lunch interval that saw Pakistan scoring at seven to the over during a stand of 76 in 10 overs.

But their cavalier style was never going to last as Olivier (5/51) did most of the damage with Rabada and Vernon Philander taking the other 5 between them.

Second time around, the Proteas lost wickets at regular intervals but still managed to extend their lead and had two major players at the crease together at stumps in Hashim Amla and De Kock. Their partnership so far is 42 in 10 overs and De Kock is relishing the opportunity to bat with a specialist batsman rather than having to shepherd the tail as has been his lot through the series.

Pakistan have only managed to bat once for more than 60 overs in the series to date and the target already facing them suggests they have a very steep mountain to climb.

The result is that none of the Proteas bowlers have had to bowl more than 15 overs in an innings and has made it easier to take the decision to play without a specialist spinner.

Na. I've made some jibes before but I wasn't mocking this time around. Amir has bowled well - Pakistan's best bowler this series. I have come to accept that his speed is 128-135kph and going by that it wasn't a bad over.

Commies or rather Ramiz in particular said a few times that pitch has slowed down . Even if that is true , i do not really see visitors chasing 300 which is just 88 runs away . Steyn has said he is fit to bowl .

Agreed. Big time players once they start usually put the pedal to the medal. Obviously he's better than everyone else we have but a lot to be desired. Hope this is just a stepping stone and not a trend.

Agreed. I'm not expecting a win but I guess it will be one positive if we manage to bundle SA out for a lowish score. I agree with @Abdullah's post too

Boss, this is some of the most difficult batting conditions he will ever face, so I think he has done great in the circumstances.
