Do Pakistani cricket fans deserve extra appreciation?

Its been 10 years now since the attack on SL team in Lahore but during this times Pak cricket fans have showed great character and has stood with the team. The popularity of cricket hasn't died and the cricket scene in Pakistan is still lit as ever.

I think it should be acknowledged and appreciated how Pak fans have been the unsung heroes here.

Unless we can conclusively prove that fans of other teams would have stopped supporting the team in a situation like this, we do not deserve extra appreciation.

Itís not as if Pakistan have stopped playing cricket. We have been playing regularly and all our matches have been telecasted. We have also won two trophies during our period of isolation.

Besides, cricket is the only sport in Pakistan with heavy investment and commercialization.

More pertinently, the isolation is not the fault of the players. Our players have paid a bigger price than the fans.

We have not done any ahsaan on our cricket team by not deserting them in this period. Fans in other countries would have done the same.

but the team deserves appreciation for winning two ICC trophies and being no.1 in tests despite having to play with empty stands and on poor pitches for home.

The only person who deserves extra appreciation is Misbah. He became the captain when we had no right to host games, we were playing poor level of cricket, struggled in test and many fans like myself at the time lost the passion for the game due to the spot fixing saga.

He laid the foundation for Pakistan cricket to be somewhat competitive in the important formats of the game. He led Pakistan during the dark period of transition. A bit like Wenger during the Emirates era when we had huge loans to pay and had to sell our best players.

commercialisation and investments come in when there is a following. cricket is slowly dying in Australia even after all the facilities they have. Cricket slowly dying in many western countries. We might not realise it now but later we all will.

We donít have a choice. Cricket is the only sport we are good at and it is deeply embedded in our culture and heritage. The future of cricket lies in the SC. That much is true.

Our home record has been pathetic since the 90ís. The impact of not playing at home on the performance of the team has been overstated, but it has given the fans a convenient excuse for the frailties of the team.

We are just not very good and cannot perform consistently irrespective of the venue.

agreed. Empty stands in South Africa is also an alarming thing. Also politics in their cricket and lack of quality players coming through is hurting their cricket as well.

This. Misbah deserves all the credit for bringing the stability and respect back to Pakistan cricket after the attack on Sri Lankan team followed by the fixing scandal. Plus Afridi running away in the middle of the series.

It is shameful how some Pakistani fans disrespect Misbah on this forum all the time.

Look at Sri lanka, rgey dont get much crowd the way they use. Indian team playing anywhere in the world has 70 % percent support. i m not against it but then Australian team playing SCG and getting support from 20% of their own supporters shows u how cricjet has fallen behind in attracting other people apart from Indians.
I m again not against indian supporters but if Australi or NZ playing in their home with full support is much more fun to watch.

We were unlucky to have such a negative and defensive captain in Misbah and not some one really inspiring. He used the opportunity to prolong his career and enjoyed free trips abroad, when he was way past his prime. Also many talented young cricketers were treated badly. Our ODi team only started getting better once he left. Cricket team survived not because of Misbah rather inspite of Misbah.

Really pleased to see the full houses at the NSK.

It's great for the PSL, the local players, the organisers and the foreign players.

    Well done to Karachiites.

I think itís partly down to franchise cricket; sport is only enjoyable to watch when you have a affinity with a team. With all these players selling themselves to highest bidder and representing multiple clubs itís hard to enjoy.

International cricket is fine, the rest is too much.

I dont know if they DESERVE extra appreciation, but I do commend the fans for staying by the team and supporting in really bad and dark times. These are things our players and we as a nation had to deal with, and battle against. It felt like us against the world during those days, even now sometimes I feel like that. It has made me more patriotic, and supportive of my country and team

    -spot fixing
    -SL team attacked
    -Terrorism and turmoil at home
    -No cricket at home
-Team performing with ups and big downs
