Manohar doesn't represent the BCCI, he was appointed as the first independant ICC chairman.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani on Thursday said that the BCCI has rejected its invitation to attend the PSL final to be held here on March 17.

PCB chairman Mani said they had sent invitations to the ICC and all its affiliated boards to attend the Pakistan Super League (PSL) summit clash but the world body's chairman Shashank Manohar, who is an Indian, and BCCI acting-president C K Khanna had cited personal engagements for their unavailability.

"Both Khanna and Manohar have refused to visit Pakistan to watch the final of the tournament citing personal engagements," Mani said.

Mani, however, said ICC chief executive Dave Richardson will be in Karachi to watch the game.

Mani said invitations were sent out to senior officials of India, England, Ireland, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka cricket boards before relations between India and Pakistan had deteriorated after the ghastly Pulwama terror attack.

"The idea behind sending the invitations is that when they come and see for themselves the arrangements for the final it will change the perception of people around the world about security in Pakistan and convince them it is safe to play international cricket in Pakistan," he said.

Asked if Prime Minister Imran Khan would attend the PSL final, Mani refused to confirm.

A PCB official said that invitations to the ICC Chairman, CEO and heads of its affiliated boards were sent out before relations between India snd Pakistan had deteriorated in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack.

Eight PSL matches, including the final, is slated to be held at the National Stadium here under tight security with soldiers from the paramilitary Rangers, Frontier Corps and the Sindh Police being deputed to avert any eventuality.

Initially, the PCB had scheduled three matches in Lahore and five including the final in Karachi but due to the closure of Lahore airspace in the aftermath of the border tensions with India, all the eight games have now been shifted to Karachi.

Imran Khan has to attend the final. Will be a solid gesture and morale booster for the cricketers and give him an opportunity to express what he wants in Pakistan Cricket.

Current Bangladesh Govt and Board are just an extension of Indian govt and board. I doubt they would even consider playing in Pakistan to appease India.

True. Manohar's niece got a boo boo. It's all over the news . He's an independent chairman but they will probably hang him upside down in India if he goes to Pakistan.

These guys are even more important than the foreign players playing in Pakistan during the PSL.

These are the guys who tell their Boards where is safe to travel and where is not.

Never mind India. They do their thing and we do ours. Hopefully other teams will start touring Pak from this year.

They might hang him upside down for shooting down BCCI's request to oust Pakistan from the WC!

That is exactly how it should be. Also, for the first time, I've seen Pakistan moving on more quickly from a tense situation than India. Our media is back to focusing on domestic issues while Indian media is still barking on about Palwama somewhere in the distance.

That is coz of their elections. Modi has been unable to fulfil any promises he made to the people then he also pocket millions in the scandalous Rafale deal. He is desperate to take the focus of people to something else hence all this anti Pak euphoria. As we know elections in India are decided by the anti-Pak card where as during our recent elections India was hardly mentioned. This Pak bashing will continue until the elections are decided. There are also rumours that Modi may declare a state of emergency if thing begin to get out of hand in India.

Karachi: The PCB is hoping that presence of two key cricket officials during the PSL matches in Karachi should help in convincing at least sub-continent teams to play bilateral series in Pakistan and not in the neutral venue of the UAE.

According to an official of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Nazimul Hasan and the chief executive of the Federation of International Players Association (FICA), Tony Irish will be in Karachi for the PSL matches.

"Nazimul who is also President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will be in Karachi from tomorrow till the final while Irish will come one day before the final on March 17," the official told PTI.

The official said the board had invited them and other officials so that they could come and assess if it is safe for international teams to play in the country.

Eight matches of the Pakistan Super league (PSL) are being held in Karachi for the first time since its launch in 2016.

"We have invited Nazimul Hasan because he is also heading the ACC and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are scheduled to play home series in Pakistan in the winter of 2019-20.

"Since 2009 all our home series have been held in UAE because of refusal by foreign teams to play in Pakistan citing security concerns. The PCB is hoping that with Nazimul Hasan staying for a week in Karachi, he will be in a better position to give feedback about the security arrangements and overall situation in Karachi and Pakistan after the PSL," the official said.

He said that PCB is hopeful that after the PSL it will become easier for the Bangladesh board to also accept Pakistan's invitation to play the home series in Pakistan and not in the UAE.

"And we are also hoping that positive reports will convince Sri Lanka to also come to Pakistan later this year," he added.

The PCB has also invited the ICC chief executive David Richardson apart from sending out invitations to other cricket boards to come and scrutinise the security and other arrangements in Karachi.

"FICA has always had apprehensions about allowing overseas players to tour Pakistan and we feel that Tony Irish will be able to see for himself that the perception about the security situation in Pakistan to the outside world is not correct.

Great news, they can see first hand the security arrangments and not have to rely on fearmongering from other officials and media.
