Hmmm, Yasir shah. I know his got over 200 test wickets but maybe a bit too early to give this honour. Mehwish hayat also, maybe mahira khan was more deserving since she has done well internationally.

    Yasir Shah?

    Ugh.

Now this is surely odd as he's not at that stage, neither a world class bowler or rated close to best in spin bowling.

A harmless 4th innings UAE bowler.

Agreed, cricketing greatness is defined by longevity , unfortunately for Yasir Shah (and Pakistan as a result), he has been well below par in the last couple of years (if not more) and does not deserve this at this point in time.

Must be a huge honour to Yasir to be included with Wasim and waqar.. one can argue whether he deserved it above others but great achievement nonetheless.

@S_haq, agreed! He's far from it, not even at the end of his career.

He himself would be thinking what did I do to get this.

Many more deserving cricketers ahead of him.

PCB congratulates Wasim, Waqar and Yasir

The Pakistan Cricket Board has congratulated former captains Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, and wrist spinner Yasir Shah who have been nominated for the Civil Awards by the Pakistan government.

Wasim and Waqar will be bestowed with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second highest civilian award after Nishan-e-Pakistan, while Yasir Shah will be awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz, the third highest civilian award, by the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi on 23 March.

“On behalf of the Pakistan cricket family, the PCB congratulates Wasim, Waqar and Yasir on their nominations for the prestigious awards.

“The three are deserving recipients. Wasim and Waqar are highly-respected commentators and have played their role in enhancing the image of Pakistan and cricket as broadcasters, while Yasir has had a lion’s share in Pakistan’s major Test wins in the recent past.”

Wasim and Waqar have previously been conferred with the Pride of Performance awards in 1992 and 1995, respectively.

Wasim took 414 Tests and 502 ODIs in a career between 1984 and 2003, while Waqar claimed 373 Test and 416 ODI wickets in a 14-year international career. Both stalwarts were inducted in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

Yasir has already taken 203 and 19 wickets in 35 Tests and 19 ODIs respectively after making his international debut in 2011. In Abu Dhabi last year, during the fourth day’s play in the second Test against New Zealand, Yasir became the quickest to 200 Test wickets, beating an 82-year-old record of Australia’s leg-spinner Clarrie Grimmett who took 36 Tests to reach the landmark against South Africa in Johannesburg in 1936.

Yep. Not just Pakistan, but the haters breed a lot off the internet around the world. I guess there have always been haters but an online platform has given them a chance to voice their opinion. So now they are in our face all the time.

Congrats. Yasir is, in a few ways, the best test spinner ever produced by Pakistan. Don't know why he gets so much hate. Yes he has been even worse than Ashwin while touring some places - SA,OZ, NZ etc but then not a lot of spinners have done well there.

The award that Yasir got was different from the two Ws.

And Yasir deserves that award, playing for Pakistan is no easy feat and this guy has performed at the top level.

suh annoying posts by some posters here. Alot of foreigners(chinese or Turkey delegates) who have done nothing for Pakistan get awards and they will not question that, but they will question someone who is representing Pakistan.

We seem to be throwing these awards at anyone that moves. Wasim and Waqar I can understand but surely Yasir is not worthy off it. We have to respect these kind of awards much more.

There is a difference between Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Sitara-e-Imtiaz you guys need to realize Yasir didn't receive the same award like 2 Ws.

Wasim and Waqar received second highest civilian award Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Yasir was given the third highest civilian award Sitara-e-Imtiaz.

Wasim and Waqar i believe already had Sitara-e-Imtiaz years ago and a few other civilian awards too
