Best innings by a Pakistani batsman in a World Cup match?

My selection of best innings ever by a Pakistani batsmen in the world cup ranked in order of merit

    1.Inzamam Ul Haq 60 v New Zealand in 1992 semi-final

    2.Zaheer Abbas 93 v West Indies in 1979 semi-final at Oval

    3.Imran Khan 102 n.o v Sri Lanka in 1983 at Taunton

    4.Mohsin Khan 70 v West Indies in 1983 semi-final

    5.Majid Khan 81 in 1979 semi-final v West Indies

    6.Rameez Raja 114 v England in 1987 in 2nd group game

    7.Javed Miandad 57 n.o in 1992 semi-final v New Zealand

    8.Zaheer Abbas 83 n.o. v England at Old Trafford in 1983

    9.Inzamam 81 v Australia at Leeds in 1999

    10.Saed Anwar 113 n.o. v New Zealand in 1999 semi-final

11.Zaheer Abbas 103 n.o.v New Zealand at Nottingham in 1983.

12.Imran Khan 70 in 1992 world cup final v England

    13.Asif Ibal 52 v England at Leeds in 1979

14.Majid Khan 60 v West Indies at Edgbaston in 1975

    15.Imran Khan 79.n.o v New Zealand in 1983

Placed Inzy's 60 at the top because it turned the complexion of the game in electrifying fashion piercing every corner of the field. One of the most dazzling displays of strokeplay creating the sensation of a total reversal of plot in a hollywood epic.Pakistan were looking dead and buried before Inzy ressurected them to take Pakistan within sight of famous win, which they eventually achieved.

Zaheer Abbas's 93 in 1979 v West Indies took batting artistry to regions of the sublime ,against arguably the greatest pace attack ever in the history of the game. The deftest touches sent the best balls crashing to the boundary with the grace of the touches of a painters brush.

Imran Khan magnificiently ressurected Pakistan from depths of despair to reach a total which they could defend.Revealed great temperament and technical skill batting with a hamstring.

Mohsin Khan's 70 was classic if you consider he scored ot out of a low total of 184 against the best pace bowling attack ever.

In his 81 in 1979 Majid tore the Calypos pace attack to shreds like few batsmen ever did.

Rameez gave a glorious exhibition of batting v England in 1987 making a defendable total of England look a virtual walk in the park.

    Not even a question.

Inzamam's knock not only is the best by a Pakistani batsman by far, it's also one of the most iconic freak innings of all time.

Inzi by miles..I remember the rameez one..he was in good form against England in those days..ensured an easy win..

But the inzi one is one innings I will never forget..legendary innings..still remember his richardsesque shot onto the legside that looked like it was going for six but just fell short..Inzi unleashed..

    Srilanka were minnows in 1983.

Saeed Anwar's knock is at no.10 despite Pakistan being poor chasers in 90s and 2000s. We chased 240 in with the loss of two wickets in a world cup semi final. I think that is a bit harsh.

You got the others spot on.

More or less excellent list & top 4 almost picks themselves. I think, somewhere Shahid Mehboob’s 77 should find a spot here - he helped Imran to post 270+ from something like 105/6 or so.

Couple more innings come to mind is Sohail’s 78 (?) against Aussies at WACA 1992 - I watched every ball of that game and once Amir was out, PAK lost like 8/50 or so in an elimination game. Not much of an opponent, and PAK was already out, but Nazir’s 160 (ZIM, 2007) still is the highest by a PAK batsman and it might remain like that forever considering PCB’s focus trending more towards T10 from T20 rather than other way. That was a pure class innings of exquisite stroke play, almost as good as Zaheer-Mazid at Oval 1979, but obviously there was a little difference in other scales.

Misbah’s 93 against ZIM should find a place as well - saved the blushes of a former cricket power from ultimate humiliation of missing out a given QF spot to Robert Mughabe’s ZIM.

And finally, Salim Yousuf made a 56* against WIN, 1987; small innings, but that started the demise of the greatest ODI team ever - WIN conceded 29 in last 2+ overs to lose by a wicket & missed the SF cut - only once made it after that in 1996.

    Good list though.

Hard to beat Inzy's but Saeed Anwar played a marvelous inning in the 1996 WC QF.

Pakistan was in full control of the game until Jadeja scored 40 runs of Waqar's last 2 overs which completely gave India the momentum. A demoralized Pakistani team came to bat chasing a daunting total of 288 in front of an extremely hostile Indian crowd and Anwar played an excellent counter attacking inning of 48 at 150 SR giving Pakistan a start of 84/0 in 10 overs. Its a shame that the rest of the batting lineup could not score 200 more at a reasonable run-rate.

My elder cousins and brothers who saw the match live said it was almost impossible in that era to play such kinda innings and unheard of.

Good thread. I think it is hard for most of us to compare these knocks because we wouldnt have watched them.
