ICC World Cup 2019 : Weather Watch
I’ve always said in England that cricket games should be played from June/July onwards before then it rains most of the time. Made a thread to see how many games in the series against England get washed out aswell as the World Cup.
1st ODI washout
How many more will there be.

Depressing thread. We prepare all winter to get out there and the weather has been so poor lately. Already 3 of my matches have been washed out and more to follow on the weekend.

I don't think rain will ruin too many matches at the WC - perhaps one or two no results and a handful of d/l matches that's it - look at the 1999 matches and you'll see that not many were disrupted.

If the weather stays like this then the spinners are going to have some fun come the latter half of the WC as the pitches dry up.

Not at all, the great thing about the Britain is it is one of the few countries in the world where you can get all 4 seasons all year round.
I love summers as much as I love winters.
Variety is key.
Trouble is weather, it is quite possible to get all 4 seasons in a week!

I really get confused when people complain so much of English weather. I have been watching Sky Sports World Cups of the past series in build up and look at how rain has affected the games in Australia.
Last world cup - South Africa vs NZ semi final
1992 world cup - South Africa vs England (22 runs off 1 ball)
In 2007 I think Aus vs SL semi final was also heavily rain affected.
Every tournament wherever it is played will have some of these games.
-

Sadly Weather always plays a role in England and it seems to be no different even this time around.. Expect few games at least to have rain interruptions and DL people are for sure going to have a field day..

If this English summer is anything like it was last year none of you have anything to worry about.
Tbh, a bit of rain/overcast may make games more interesting as otherwise we'll be seeing lifeless phattas where 400 can't be defended.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka weather watch
I’m starting to have a slight panic, weather forecast for the game looks like it can be a washout! This should be an easy game for us so this is the worst thing that can happen. But game is still a few days away so what’s the likelihood of the forecast changing?? Any weather experts out there??

First of all weather in UK changes per hour. Pakistan’s match is on Friday. Which is 3 days away.
Even if it is a washout still
Pakistan will get a valuable Point + extra Rest. And they will be on 3 points.
Their semi final spot will be decided on merit and matches against Aus, Ind, SA and Nzl will hold key. Pak needs to win 2/4 of these matches. Then 2 more against BD + AFG. So that is 11 points in total. Which might be enough to put them on 4th position.

I am confident that we'll defeat Afghanistan, RSA and Bangladesh. It is very possible that matches involving other top sides could very well be effected by rain as well. We may get a lesser over match versus Sri Lanka if it's not a complete washout.

This is the problem with having a World Cup in England.
Especially now as the UK is getting wetter and wetter in the Summer (June-August).
So you will get really warm days sandwiched in between rainy days.

Five wins and a NR should be enough provided NRR is good. Problem is our NRR is terrible. Really we need to beat Afg, Ban, NZ, SA and one of Ind and Aus to definitely qualify.

Jeez, Crying is an overstatement. The forecast is not for it to be light rain. It's heavy rain with a 95% possibility and it's going to be raining throughout the day.
Forecasts which change have probability og rain set at 20-30% hence can be wrong. Forecasts like the one predicted for Friday are rarely wrong

As of now there is 100% chance of heavy rain continuously from 9am onwards until 6pm.
The match will almost certainly not go ahead and will be abandoned.
1 point for both teams.

Consistent rain from this Thursday until next Thursday whole of UK. Expect abandoned/short games.
Unfortunately constant rain pretty much guaranteed fron late this Thursady until next Thursday for the whole of the UK.
This Friday's game is an almost certain wash out.
Almost every game from this Friday will either be abandoned or shortened with D/L.
However the Pakistan v India game the following Sunday should be fine.
The D/L system will be working overtime.

People really seem to struggle with reading weather forecasts around here... The highest probablity of rain on the BBC currently for all games up to next Thursday except the Pakistan game is currently 23% with most games expected to be completely dry. That is not a consistent rain. Added to that looking at the forecast nearly 2 weeks in advance isn't going to be much use.
-
5th June 2019, 16:57 #79
With the weather here in the UK, it is futile to look at forecasts more than 3-4 days in advance. It doesn't look great for Pakistan vs Sri Lanka in Bristol on Friday however. I am hoping the forecast clears up as that is a game that we should be looking to win.
-
6th June 2019, 00:37 #80
For all those crying about UK weather , the forecasts I have seen at the moment for games until next Saturday, the only game likely to be called off is our game against Sri Lanka. The weather seems fine for the rest , although West Indies vs South Africa on Monday 5pm maybe rained off. But we would had a full game by then.
I understand that these forecasts may change , but things at the moment seem okay. Last summer the weather got really really hot during mid June. This summer is expected to be like last summer . Hopefully that is the case because we wont get much rain during the WC if the forecast is like last summer.
