Congratulations to Mohammad Amir for his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs!

    Terrific bowler

He didnít strike with the new ball and most of the dismissals were gifts. On any other day, this would have been a 1/40 or 2/35 type performance.

Anyway, congratulations to him because he deserves a slice of luck. He has been poor for the last two years but also a tad unlucky.

If you saw his first spell, he constantly beat the bat and was very unlucky

When Pak take wickets and get back in the game: “I am very disappointed with Australia here”

I don't know if you are trolling or simply biased for some personal disliking but he was terrific and deserved every wicket he got. Very accurate throughout his spell and rarely bowled any bad balls. You can't ask for more.

Just going by Mamoon's logic. The reality is all those wickets were created by pressure. The lbw yorker was a genuinely good delivery that beat Carrey.

    Lol!

On any other day this could have been 5 for 30 with 3 wickets in the first spell et 3 in the second spell, that is how good he was.

Warner was beaten every second ball in that second spell.

Bring up his first 24 deliveries in his first spell, and let me see how you explain the high percentage of play and misses by both Finch and Warner.

Let's see proper analysis @Mamoon, rather than the usual nauseating sweeping statements. Walk the talk.

Mamoon is just trying to justify previous criticism so going over the top as a result. But to be fair he has a point about the new ball. He didn't give runs, but he's not getting wickets with it either. Too many deliveries the openers can just leave alone. Great spell other than that though. Used some smarts rather than just speed.

our cheetah is back. So happy to see him be of value to the team after his comeback. Must be a great boost to his confidence and that too right before the Indian game. No matter the outcome of this game, Pak bowlers should be happy how they turned things around. Aus were looking to score 360 to 375 easily. Great effort

He didn’t strike with the new ball and most of the dismissals were gifts. On any other day, this would have been a 1/40 or 2/35 type performance.

Anyway, congratulations to him because he deserves a slice of luck. He has been poor for the last two years but also a tad unlucky.
This. Only few deliveries were good. Most of them were gifts. Reminds me of Wahab Riaz 5 for against India in World Cup

You fans who don't appreciate amir today should stop following Pk cricket. He is the only reason australia didn't score 360. If the other bowlers had bowled like amir, this australian side would have scored 150, but instead they were bowling short balls to australians

Congratulations to Mohammad Amir for his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs!

Congratulations indeed to Amir! Iīve been one of his critics but thereīs absolutely no shame in accepting my defeat. He has been brilliant this tournament. But I may add that my criticism never meant that he should be dropped from the team. As I was discussing this with @UP a couple of weeks ago on the phone, my criticism more or less means that he should improve his bowling, not that he should be replaced because even on one leg he still is better than any "Promising newcomer" that Pakistan can play ahead of him. Even on his off days, he usually still ends up bowling better than most of his colleagues.

This is the kind of performance that I wanted to see from him. If it means that, like Indiaīs Dhawan, he sleepwalks all the meaningless matches in between to turn up for big tournaments like this, then Iīve no complaints. He has been brilliant right from the match against Sri Lanka I think in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Kudos to him!

The only positive going for our team right now.
We all doubted him and his selected but he has shown, he is on another level and bowling on different pitches than his colleagues.

    Welcome back Amir

Don't go by the number of wickets he took today. Compare the amount of runs he conceded with other bowlers. That will give you better idea to judge his performance.

It's a trend now in Pakistan

Score a hundred or take 5 wickets and lose the game.

He bowled a great spell and did a great job in containing the Aussies. For people saying the wickets were gifts, why didn't the other Pakistani bowlers get those wickets or keep the runrate low? In sports nothing is gifted, everything is achieved.

Now that our 6th ranked team has been humiliated for the umpteenth time, we all have time to congratulate Amir for his first and probably his last 5 wicket haul in ODIs.

However, on a damp pitch with heavy clouds in the sky, it was criminal to see our bowlers (including Amir) not take a single wicket in the opening spell.

That ultimately set up the match for Australia and we have been playing catch-up since.

When you opt to bowl first in bowling conditions, you do not want the opposition openers to be 60/0 after 10 overs; you want them 40/3, and this is where Amir failed like the other pacers.

You don't get wickets by beating the batsman. The fact is that he took 0 wickets in his opening spell in bowling-friendly conditions, and that setup the game for Pakistan. Had Pakistan batted first in those conditions, Starc and Cummins would have reduced us to a rubble, and there is no way we would have posted a defendable total.

    He was excellent today.

I noticed he was bowling full and not the defensive stuff he usually does in bilaterals, many were right to point out that he actually tries during world events

    Starc & Cummins.

Bowlers hunt in pairs, you said Starc & Cummins would have reduced us to rubble.

How is Amir going to do anything when he has bowling partners in Hasan and Shaheen who were leaking runs?

I agree with this. There was a lot more juice in the pitch in the first innings and that is why both Finch and Sarfraz wanted to bowl first. The fact that Australia were 222/2 in 33 overs after being put in on a bowler-friendly deck is a real indictment of the Pakistani pace attack. This defeat actually flatters Pakistan somewhat considering that Pakistan got better batting and bowling conditions than Australia.

Later in the innings when Amir took those wickets in a heap, other bowlers were still leaking runs. Ultimately, everyone is responsible for his own performance. Amir did not strike with the new ball and has struggled to strike with the new ball for two years because of his own failings, and they cannot be projected on others.

That's because of how cautiously Finch and Warner were playing him, on another day he may have gotten both their wickets but it wasn't to be.

Even the commentators said the same thing - how Amir should have had more wickets - further backing up the claim that Amir was indeed a tricky customer first up.

If Shaheen or Hasan had kept it tight on their ends then it could have been different.

The rest of the batsman weren't able to handle Amir like Finch and Warner did.

Amir gave 14 runs in his first 5 overs and had 23 dot balls.

But I understand where you're coming from, it's good for Amir though he's finally picking up some wickets after two years of a horror show.

He's getting better and better every match, if the India match doesn't get rained out Amir might make it interesting.

Wahab was bowling well, as well as the second spell of Shaheen. Besides later over bowling is very different from opening bowling.

These fans are going to get a false notion of the capability of this team the next year since we're playing a lot more T20s than ODIs.

Waiting for the humiliation next year at the World T20
