Javier Hernandez: Sevilla sign West Ham striker on three-year deal

Sevilla have signed striker Javier Hernandez on a three-year deal from West Ham United for an undisclosed fee.

The 31-year-old Mexico forward handed in a transfer request on Friday and had flown to Spain for a medical.

Hernandez's Hammers future had been uncertain following the arrival of club record signing Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt in July.

West Ham signed Hernandez from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for 16m in 2017.

A positive start to this season for Manuel Pellegrini's side, along with Hernandez having less than a year remaining on his contract, convinced the Hammers to agree to the player's request to leave.

The former Manchester United forward made 55 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, scoring 16 goals, including one this season.

"The club would like to thank Chicharito for his contribution and wish him all the best in his future career," a West Ham statement said.

Watford have reappointed Quique Sanchez Flores as manager after announcing the exit of Javi Gracia.

Sanchez was in charge of Watford for the 2015-16 campaign before leaving at the end of the season.

Fellow Spaniard Gracia, whose coaching team have also left, had been in charge since January 2018 - making him the first Hornets boss to last more than one full season since 2013.

The appointment of Flores was confirmed 30 minutes later.

Watford are bottom of the Premier League table with one point.

Gracia led the club to Wembley last season, where they lost 6-0 to Manchester City in the biggest FA Cup final win in over a century, as well as 11th place in the Premier League.

But three defeats in their opening four league games saw him lose his job in an announcement made by the club during the first half of England's Euro 2020 qualifier against Bulgaria.

Hornets chairman Scott Duxbury said: "Javi has represented Watford with great dignity and will always be deserving of our fullest respect for his achievements."

Gracia and Sanchez have Watford's best managerial records in the Premier League - with an average of 1.18 points per game each.

Watford have become known in recent years for changing managers on a regular basis. Since Gianfranco Zola's exit in December 2013, they have had nine managers including Flores twice.

In one spell between August and October 2014, they had four permanent bosses. Since then Slavisa Jokanovic lasted eight months, Flores and Walter Mazzarri one season each and Marco Silva about eight months.

Sanchez has managed Espanyol in La Liga and Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua since leaving Watford in 2016.

Javi Gracia says he was surprised by Watford's "unexpected" and "abrupt" decision to sack him on Saturday.

The Hornets re-appointed former boss Quique Sanchez Flores after taking just one point from their first four Premier League games of the season.

Gracia departed Vicarage Road after having lead Watford to just one win in their last ten matches, a run that stretched back to April.

But the Spaniard says he was surprised by the abrupt decision having taken the club to an 11th-placed Premier League finish - their best in the Premier League era - and the FA Cup final in 2018/19.

"After the unexpected announcement about the termination of my contract after only four matches, I want to express my surprise after competing the best season in Watford's history," Gracia said in a statement.

"I respect this decision and I'd like to reassure the excellent relationship I have with Gino Pozzo and Filippo Giradi, and it is not going to change despite my abrupt exit of the club.

"I am grateful to this club for allowing me to manage this great club in the Premier League, it has been an incredible experience, with very special moments like the FA Cup final I had the privilege to enjoy.

"I want to thank every single person who works for this club and has made my everyday very easy. My gratefullness and love for this club will be eternal.

"And finally, I want to thank the fans for supporting me the way they did from day one, until my last. I will always wish the fans and these players the best."

Gracia was less than a year into a four-and-a-half year contract at Vicarage Road. Watford also had the option to extend the deal by a further three years.

It won't be - let January hit them. From mid Dec to early Feb, LFC will play around 18-19 games in 2 continents - that's roughly a game in every 3 days, travelling half of the globe.

EPL is a 38 game marathon, you win by muscle & depth of your owner's pocket. ManCity will win it with a game or two at hand.

Defending champions Manchester City suffered a shock defeat at Norwich City as Liverpool maintained their 100% start to the Premier League with victory over Newcastle to move five points clear at the top of the table.

Norwich took an early lead through Kenny McLean before Todd Cantwell doubled their advantage. Sergio Aguero pulled one back before the interval but Teemu Pukki sealed victory with his sixth top-flight goal, before Rodri hit a late consolation as the Canaries held on to win 3-2.

Two first-half goals from Sadio Mane in the early kick-off saw league leaders Liverpool overturn Jetro Willems' early opener and see off Newcastle 3-1 at Anfield.

Roberto Firmino was a first-half injury replacement for Divock Origi, and the Brazilian was in sublime form, setting up Mohamed Salah's strike in the second half with a superb flick.

Tottenham and Chelsea both secured big wins, while Manchester United returned to winning ways to end Leicester's unbeaten start to the new campaign.

Spurs scored all their goals in the first half of their 4-0 home win over Crystal Palace, with Son Heung-min grabbing two either side of a Patrick van Aanholt own goal to put the north London side three up inside 23 minutes.

Erik Lamela also scored before the break, lifting Mauricio Pochettino's side up into third place, with Palace in 11th.

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham scored a hat-trick in his side's 5-2 win at Wolves, but was also on the scoresheet at the wrong end.

The 21-year old's three goals gave Frank Lampard's side a comfortable lead inside an hour at Molineux, but his slight touch to Romain Saiss' header helped Wolves pull one back. A second from Patrick Cutrone reduced the arrears further, but Mason Mount added a fifth for the Blues in stoppage time.

Manchester United edged out Leicester City 1-0 at Old Trafford courtesy of an early Marcus Rashford penalty.

The striker was felled by Caglar Soyuncu in the seventh minute and then slotted home from the spot, and the England international's third goal of the season was enough to give United their second win of the campaign.

Sheffield United had a goal ruled out by the video assistant referee in the first half, and then saw Moussa Djenepo score a brilliant winner for Southampton at Bramall Lane.

Oliver McBurnie had the ball in the net after 52 minutes but John Egan was shown to be offside - and to make matters worse for the Blades, striker Billy Sharp was sent off late on in the 1-0 loss.

Burnley salvaged a point with an injury-time equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton.

Neal Maupay had fired the Seagulls in front early in the second half with a fine volley, but Clarets substitute Jeff Hendrick scored from 20 yards early in added time.

Watford fought back from two goals down at half-time to draw at home to Arsenal in Quique Sanchez Flores' first match since being reappointed Hornets manager.

They levelled the scores when Roberto Pereyra rolled in a late penalty after Tom Cleverley had reduced the deficit when Gunners defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos gave away possession inside his own area, to take only their second point of the season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had put the visitors in front when he collected Sead Kolasinac's pass on the turn before firing past Ben Foster.

Arsenal doubled their lead as Aubemeyang finished a sweeping team move but the hosts improved after the break as the Gunners unravelled in front of the vociferous home support.

The Hornets had their chances to complete a stunning comeback with a decisive third, but the otherwise impressive Gerard Deulofeu dragged his effort narrowly wide.

The result sees Arsenal move into seventh in the table, while the Hornets remain rooted to the foot of the table.

The Arsenal striker is one of the most clinical forwards in the English top flight, having scored with seven of his last nine shots on target, and the Gunners are quite capable of blowing teams away going forward thanks to the potency of Aubameyang and the technical ability of Mesut Ozil and Dani Ceballos.

They demonstrated their attacking flair as they went through 20 passes for their second goal - but glaring issues remain at the back.

This was evident as early as the 10th minute as the red and white shirts backed off and space opened up for Cleverley, whose fierce effort was well saved by Bernd Leno.

Five minutes later, and Etienne Capoue was given the same time and space but could only shoot over the bar.

The Gunners want to play out from the back, and even though Matteo Guendouzi lost possession deep inside his own half on two occasions they persisted with their approach.

And Sokratis eventually made the mistake that always looked likely to happen, before Deulofeu diverted the ball into Cleverley's path for Watford's first goal.

David Luiz was brought in from London rivals Chelsea to shore up the defence over the summer, but the Brazilian has endured a difficult few weeks at the start of his Arsenal career, and has now conceded two penalties in three matches.

Luiz brought down Pereyra with a lunge in the final 10 minutes and the substitute stepped up himself to take the penalty and salvage a point for the hosts.

A Saudi prince has won a High Court battle over the control of Premier League side Sheffield United.

Kevin McCabe and Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud were locked in a legal battle over their 50-50 ownership of the Blades.

Mr Justice Fancourt ruled Mr McCabe must now sell his stake to Prince Abdullah for 5m.

Mr McCabe, a "life-long" Blades fan, said he was "bitterly disappointed" and was considering an appeal.

The court heard Sheffield-born Mr McCabe had invested 100m in the club over a number of years.

He met Prince Abdullah in 2013 while looking for fresh investment in the club, then in League One.

Prince Abdullah, a member of the Saudi royal family, invested 10m but the two men "fell out" in 2017.

The disagreement became "very personal and acrimonious" with Sheffield United Ltd, the company run by Mr McCabe and his family, eventually making an offer to buy out the prince for 5m.

But the offer also gave the prince's company, UTB LLC, the option to buy Mr McCabe's shareholding at the same price and a counter notice was served in January 2018.

Mr Justice Fancourt said the contract of sale and purchase of Sheffield United Ltd's shares could not be set aside.

He also dismissed a claim for damages saying UTB LLC had not conducted affairs in a manner unfairly prejudicial to the interests of Sheffield United Ltd.

In a statement issued after the ruling, a spokesman for Mr McCabe said: "He has supported Sheffield United through thick and thin going back to the 1950s and wishes nothing more than success for the club, its supporters and the many staff employed by it.

"Mr McCabe sincerely hopes that he is proved wrong in relation to his deep misgivings about the suitability of Prince Abdullah as an appropriate custodian of Sheffield United."

Mr McCabe is thought to be the longest serving director and owner in the history of Sheffield United
Prince Abdullah, a grandson of modern Saudi Arabia founder King Abdulaziz, said he was "delighted" by the judgement.

"No owner, director, coach or player is bigger than the club but together with the fans, we all share the common desire to make the club ever greater," he said.

Sheffield United released a statement saying the judgement "brings an end to the uncertainty over Sheffield United's future ownership and allows us to focus our full attention on the season ahead".

Entertaining match even though it finished 0-0.

Villa really should have scored having plenty of chances and with WH being a man down.

Abraham is a massive loss for Villa, they dont really have a genuine goalscorer which could send them back down.

    Harry Wilson

A third goal of the season for on-loan Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson!

Philip Billing gets in behind the defender and has so much time to pick out Wilson with a cut-back from the backline.

Wilson coolly slots it inside the far post.

Bournemouth survived a second-half fightback to secure a first ever victory at Southampton and move into third place in the Premier League before the weekend's games.

Eddie Howe's side produced a superb first-half display to establish a two-goal lead as Nathan Ake headed in Diego Rico's corner in the 10th minute and Harry Wilson's sweeping finish from Phillip Billing's pass crowned a superb move.

The Cherries also had a goal from Joshua King ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee as they were in complete control for the first 45 minutes.

Southampton snatched at a lifeline when James Ward-Prowse scored from the spot eight minutes after the break following Steve Cook's clumsy challenge on Che Adams.

Bournemouth felt they had a credible penalty claim ignored by VAR when Cedric Soares tangled with King but they came through in relative comfort and wrapped up the win with virtually the last kick of the game when a misunderstanding between Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn and Jan Bednarek left Callum Wilson with an open goal.

    Uh-oh. VAR regrets.

Harvey Barnes slips it left to Jamie Vardy and the striker drills it across the middle. It comes all the way through to Ricardo Pereira who coolly slots it underneath the keeper.

    Sheffield United 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool weren't great today, and I've seen them getting some stick online. But to view it from a different perspective, they won while not playing well.

I've heard it said that this is what successful sides do.

They've now won 16 Premier League games on the bounce. They've probably earned the right to have an off day. Especially if they emerged unscathed from it.

We deserved to win the game on chances created. We were also denied a clear cut penalty as well when Mane was hacked to the ground. Can't be at your best all the time so I will happily take these three points today any which way. Two excellent away win over the past few days, now back to the CL midweek.

West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has been ruled out for at least two months with a torn hip muscle.

The Pole, 34, suffered the injury taking a goal-kick during West Ham's 2-2 draw at Bournemouth on Saturday and was substituted in the 34th minute.

He was the Hammers' player of the season for 2018-19 and started all 38 league games.

Roberto Jimenez, 33, replaced Fabianski at Bournemouth for his league debut, having signed for free in May.

West Ham's only other senior goalkeeper is David Martin, 33, who joined on a free transfer from Millwall in the summer but is yet to play for the club.

West Ham are currently fourth in the Premier League and have not lost since defeat by Manchester City on the opening

Agree, we know Arsenal are not good travellers but a poor performance. If Utd had a little more creativity up front, they could have scored a few goals. However just not enough for the win, so draw a fair result.

If you play like this in your next home you might see a new record of the heaviest defeat at home.
