How big would Pakistan have to beat Bangladesh to surpass on points table?

It seems like NZ is getting a phainty here which is actually good for Pakistan. The worse they lose here, the less would the GAO be in terms of NRR.

It would be interesting to see NZ’s NRR after this. I expect their NRR to take a MASSIVE hit today

    SCENARIOS:

Pakistan make 308, bowl Bangladesh out for 0. Win by 308 runs.
Pakistan make 350, bowl Bangladesh out for 38. Win by 312 runs.
Pakistan make 400, bowl Bangladesh out for 84. Win by 316 runs.
Pakistan make 450, bowl Bangladesh out for 129. Win by 321 runs.
Pakistan make 500, bowl Bangladesh out for 175. Win by 325 runs.

If Pakistan bowl first, there is no mathematical possibility of them making it through.

Pakistan making it through NRR is extremely unlikely... I think I read some where that Pakistan will have to win by a margin of 300 runs or thereabouts...

By the way why have they not looked at the number of matches won in case of equal points? Why this stupid NRR criteria?

Its over, accept it, the team was not good enough and did not deserve the top 4 spot. They are themselves to blame, because they never concentrate on the basics or have a think tank or strategy, they just go out there to run around put their hands in the pockets smile and chew gum and pretend they can hold a bat.

The differential has to be about about 430 runs. So if NZ loses by 100 runs, Pak has to win by 300 runs I think

The best chance for Pakistan is to bowl first and get Bangladesh all out for around 50 runs and chase it down in 6 overs.

Both NZ and Pak will have equal wins and same points if Pak wins against BD. Second criteria is NRR. Third is head to head

That's impossible. They actually have a decent batting line up.

Best chance is batting first and go all guns blazing by putting up 460-470...their bowling/fielding is weak and Pakistan has nothing to lose...

Then get BD out within 160-170...

Looks very unlikely but that is the only way...

Pakistan will have to bat first, score 500, and bowl out BD for 150, I am guessing something like that.

And if they bat first, we are literally out

Someone mentioned on Cricinfo that net margin of 430 runs between Pak & NZ. So if NZ get out at 150, we need to beat Bangla by 280 run margin. if they get out at 200, we have to defeat Bangla by 330 I am guessing

New Zealand's net run rate will be affected if they lose by anything more than 50 runs. Their players are trying their best to close the gap. Net run rate will be assessed only after the match is finished.

Not really, as per Cricinfo, Pakistan needed NZ to get all out before 150. Now, if Pakistan bowls on Friday, They need to get Bangladesh all out at 0 and get the runs in 0 overs (or 4 wides or something).

Only theoretical chance, if Pakistan bats first and beat BD by atleast 350 runs.

Bro, even if NZ gets all out just about now, Pakistan would need something like a 335 runs victory.

The reason "matches won" is a poor criteria is that, for example there are two teams, one with 2 washed out games and another with one win and one loss. Then the second team goes through. That is unfair to the first team as it could have won one or both of the washed out games. NRR on the other hand is completely based on what a team does on the field.

No point to try to increase NRR now since we we never serious even Afghanistan game. We were never concern about NRR as if winning a game is enough.
Instead we should try to beat BD and fix our domestic system, select players through merit and learn to play as a team.

    BD 0/10 in 10 balls.

Pakistan comes in to bat. Fakhar takes guard

1st ball - "Mustafizur Rehman comes in to bowl. And thats a wide. Pakistan win by 10 wickets with 50 overs to spare"

    1999, 2011 only.
But I feel bad about this one because we were a performing unit in this WC and are out due to politics, luck and lack of team's situation-awareness.

No point to try to increase NRR now since we we never serious even Afghanistan game. We were never concern about NRR as if winning a game is enough.
Instead we should try to beat BD and fix our domestic system, select players through merit and learn to play as a team.

U guys are talking about big margins as if weíre playing against China. Bangladesh is good of a team as Pakistan. Iíd be surprised if we actually beat them.

Ok what if in tommorws match Afghanistan beat West Indies by 400 runs. Will New Zealand run rate drop below Pakistan.

And Pakistan score 560 batting first while Bangladesh is bundled out for 0 in 10 balls. 6 wickets for Amir and 4 by Afridi.

Treat the match as three separate high scoring games of two T20's and one T10 and get to 500. Then bundle out Bangla for 150.

So this is what Pakistan need to do to qualify for the semi-finals:

If Pakistan make 350, they need to bowl Bangladesh out for 38
If Pakistan score 400, they need to bowl Bangladesh out for 84
If Bangladesh bat first, there is no chance of Pakistan qualifying

Qualification scenarios for Pakistan. We have to bat first, if we lose the toss and Bangladesh bat, the toss will knock us out. If we bat first -

    Pakistan - 350; Bangladesh - 38 all out
    Pakistan - 400; Bangladesh - 84 all out
    Pakistan - 450; Bangladesh - 129 all out
    Pakistan - 500; Bangladesh - 175 all out

In short, the boys will be on the plane back to Pakistan this weekend

    For Pakistan to qualify:
Beat Bangladesh by 311 runs after scoring 350
Beat Bangladesh by 316 runs after scoring 400
Beat Bangladesh by 321 runs after scoring 450
If Bangladesh opt to bat first on Friday, Pakistan stand eliminated even before a ball is bowled.
