Pakistan v Bangladesh | Match 43, World Cup | 5th July, 2019 | Lords's | Pakistan innings
Pakistan need to beat Bangladesh by a margin of over 300 runs to trump New Zealand, but against a team that has played a spirited brand of cricket all tournament, it’s an unlikely proposition
Overview
Pakistan v Bangladesh
Lord’s, London
2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, Match 43
Friday, 05 July; 10.30am local time; 09.30am GMT
The equation is simple, really. Not easy, but simple. Pakistan need to bat first. They then need to score 400 and dismiss Bangladesh for 84. That’s a win margin of 316 runs – never been achieved in the history of one-day cricket, let alone at a tournament such as the World Cup. Those margins will change depending on the scores, but the crux is that Pakistan will have to do the improbable to trump New Zealand and make the semi-finals. If Bangladesh bat first, then Pakistan are out even before the game begins.
For a brief while there, Pakistan teased 1992 all over again. Just until last week, the timeline of their progression at this year’s event was identical to what it was 27 years ago. But this time, it wasn’t meant to be, at least not as of now, barring a miracle against Bangladesh. But Sarfaraz Ahmed’s team can be proud of the fight they have shown to come this far, after a slow start, and especially after the string of defeats they came into the tournament with.
Their opponents, Bangladesh, have put up a spirited performance this World Cup. Shakib Al Hasan has done practically just about everything a cricketer can do on the field. Bangladesh have ridden the wave of Shakib’s all-round excellence to compete against the top teams in the competition. They beat South Africa and Afghanistan, pulled off a record chase against West Indies, showed several moments of brilliance in a tall chase against Australia, and nearly beat New Zealand.
Two proud teams who have given it their all only to be trumped by four teams that have simply been more clinical, professional and consistent. Can they come out one final time, though, and leave England with happy memories?
Key Players
Babar Azam (Pakistan): Pakistan’s No.3 has been remarkably consistent all tournament. He has a calm and mature head that allows for clarity in thinking as well as the right shot selection for the right situations.
Mustafizur Rahman (Bangladesh): The left-arm pacer’s array of cutters and other variations came in handy against India as he helped Bangladesh restrict them to 314 despite a powerful start. Pakistan’s line-up is filled with some big-hitters, and Mustafizur’s battle against the likes of Fakhar Zaman and Haris Sohail could make for some riveting viewing.
Conditions
Friday should be sunny and rain-free. Lord’s traditionally has offered swing for the faster bowlers early on, but don’t expect teams to depart from the proven bat-first formula.
Squads
Pakistan: Sarfaraz Ahmed (c, wk), Asif Ali, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan, Shoaib Malik, Wahab Riaz, Haris Sohail, Imad Wasim, Fakhar Zaman
Bangladesh: Mashrafe Mortaza (c), Abu Jayed, Liton Das (wk), Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan, Mohammad Mithun (wk), Mohammad Saifuddin, Mosaddek Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal

• Bangladesh have won their last four men’s ODIs against Pakistan, prior to this span
Pakistan had recorded 31 wins from 32 clashes against the Tigers, including their last
25 in a row.
• This will be the second meeting between Pakistan and Bangladesh at an ICC Men’s
Cricket World Cup, the first match took place when the tournament was last held in
England (1999, Bangladesh won by 62 runs).
• Pakistan have won their last three ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 matches; after
becoming champions in 1992 they have only managed more consecutive victories
at a single edition twice (4 in both 1999 and 2015).
• Pakistan have won three of their last four men’s ODIs at Lord’s (L1), including their
most recent such match against South Africa at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.
• This will be the first time Bangladesh have played a men’s ODI at Lord’s, they have
never played a men’s T20I at the St John’s Wood venue either but they have played
two Test matches there against England (2005 and 2010, losing both).
• Mushfiqur Rahim needs 91 runs to become the third player to reach 6,000 men’s ODI
runs for Bangladesh, he’s averaging 58.5 at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 and
has scored 351 runs already in this edition of the tournament.
• Babar Azam has scored 378 runs so far at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019, he
needs 60 in this match to take the record for most by a Pakistani at a single edition
(437 runs, Javed Miandad in 1992).
• Rubel Hossain is in line to make his 100th ODI appearance for Bangladesh, he’ll be the
11th player to reach this milestone for the Tigers.
• Shakib Al Hasan has scored 542 runs so far at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019, the
most by a Bangladeshi at a single edition; in the process he has recorded six scores
of 50+, only Sachin Tendulkar has recorded more in an edition of the tournament (7 in
2003).
• Mustafizur Rahman has taken 15 wickets so far at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019,
the most by a Bangladeshi at a single edition of the tournament; he’s only played
one previous ODI v Pakistan, recording figures of 4/43 in the match in 2018, two more
scalps will take him to 100 career ODI wickets.

Man for all the hollow talk of making 500 by Pakistan fans, the Bangladeshi fans are touching new levels of arrogance this time. Those four matches are being lorded over us like some streak, when the first three of those were against a club level side and four years ago.
Pakistan should focus on beating Bangladesh with a strong performance, than try and do all this 500 rubbish. Will send a strong message across and shut down the annoying trolls who believe Bangladesh winning is a foregone conclusion.

But seriously, both teams should look to end their campaign at a high rather than going after an elusive unattainable total.
PS: pitch starts slowing down after 30 overs, so even if you go berserk on a flat track, it would slow down and result in 350 ish score. Not a bad total at all.

Sarfraz, you've won the toss, what would you like to do?
Sarfraz: Bowl first.
Nasser : Huh, Are you sure?
Sarfi : Without a doubt
Nasser : One last time, you need time to think?
Mashrafe : Bhai, soch lo
Sarfi : Umm.. Okay. We will field first then.
[A huge thud in the background with Nasser and Mashrafe ROFL]

What a optimist group of guys these Pakistanis are ,who are hoping for posting 500 against us and move to semifinal by bating us by 300 plus runs!!!! I am just amazed to see the positivity. Well done boys.

it wont b easy vs Bangladesh.. they are a good team... a miracle can only get us a win of above 300 ....
Bangaldesh has done well in this tournament... played wellllllll above their weight ... had an unlucky loss vs NZ... gave tough competition to india..... both games could have gone their way but then this is where they lack at the min .... next year in sub-continent conditions, they will be even tougher ....
Pakistan to will all the way insh-Allah

These should be the small targets:
10 ovs - 73-0
20 ovs - 151-0
30 ovs - 232 -1
40 ovs - 320 - 2
50 ovs - 448 -4
Now for bowling them for under 100, keep amir and shaheen at both ends for back to back 10 ovs each. And expect them to get fifers. If not use hasnain too.
