I want Tom Moody but the reality is it’ll either be Misbah (who will prove to be a failure), Mohsin Khan, Basit Ali or the return of Waqar Younis.

There is no Pakistani coach with the modern mentality or the correct experience. Pakistani ex players need to go out and coach in foreign domestic league to gain experience and the coaching badges.

I have put Hesson - but really the bigger debate should be about the captain. Coaches should have limited role.

Well meaning as Hesson might be, I feel that Ottis Gibson may have the hardness to push Pakistan players that is needed.

Also remember who Hesson has to work with - likes of Kane Williamson, Southee, Boult etc

I believe Andy is a stricter version of Mickey Arthur.

If a Pakistani wants to coach then they should first prove themselves in the international arena and coach another top test side or county team. Only then should PCB accept them. Otherwise we have some ex cricketers with 0 coaching experience who want the job and think of it as an entitlement.

pakistani cricketers are usually arrogant and simply do not listen to a foreign coach . this was different under mickey arthur's arthur tenure.he was very strict and stern. he did not mind shouting and acting out physically against players(he threw a chair at them in south africa mickey did go overboard on this occasion). this kind of discipline was needed initially, players fitness improved drastically, but this style of coaching did not impact the players towards the end.

The next head coach should not be mike hesson or any other foreign coach due to the communication barrier. the next head coach should be someone like mickey who is strict and demands discipline. I dont know which pakistani has similar characteristics.

The prospect of misbah is promising. he has a very smart cricketing brain. he will not hamper the progression of the odi side, he knows the modern game and will not force players to be conservative, like every misbah critic fears.

It should also be noted that this world cup presented pitches which were difficult for batting. all test matches last year had pitches that were difficult for batting, so maybe misbah's guidance is required.

    Anyone except misbah!

I do not want to go back to an era, where Pak were setting themselves up for a 250 score.

Also, misbah criticised the selection of Shaheen and Hasnain, plus even had a go at Shaheen for bowling too full against afg (picked up a 4-fer).

    Never again please!!

The important point is that ultimately there will be one winner.

Progression of a side should be taken into account in judging credentials of a coach.

I'd go for Dean Jones. I get the risk he's inexperienced. But he's managed Islamabad well, winning the PSL twice with them. Has wanted the job for a very long time, enthusiastic about Pakistan cricket. And by his success with IU has shown his ability to identify talent e.g. Sharjeel, and to communicate/work with Pakistani players. I respect him a bit wanting the Pakistani coaching job, not getting it initially, and then trying to prove himself by winning the PSL. At least he's working hard to get the job.

I also think Mickey came into the job fresh without any knowledge of Pakistani cricket. Didn't realise Irfan probably wouldn't bowl 10 overs regularly, or Umar would probably be unfit/not that good. He just saw they were past international talents, wanted them brought back and then complained when he realised their current state.

I'm worried if we get another foreign coach we get that disconnection like we had with Mickey.

Dean Jones was also a fantastic batsman especially ODIs in his time and good fielder. Which maybe he can impart knowledge onto our players.

Ideally I'd like to see a Duo of Dean and Misbah working with the Pakistani team, with Misbah as the assistant.

Some people drool over any Foreigner's name.

Right now a good quality local coach, educated, professional, and someone who comes with no baggage would be our best option. The only local option who fits all the criteria is Misbah.

Hope Wasim Khan makes the right call.

    Many reasons.

Before Misbah, hiring a foreign coach was the only way to avoid jealous, unprofessional local ex-cricketers.

Cricketing teams like Australia and India realize that local coaches are the best option. They know their cricket setup inside out, know the players, their mindset, how best to utilize certain specialists.

One example is Shastri who was hired without even any coaching course, let alone coaching an international cricket team. Working wonders.

Misbah is a far better option than the likes of Shastri, because of his professionalism, being strict on fitness, educated, a great people-manager who never let any controversies happen, someone who can make the team gel together and perform as a unit, knows the domestic system inside out. Super resilient, good strategist.

One of the biggest factors for a team like PAK is also the communication barrier. Coach gives a speech and says tons of things, leaving many of our players clueless- they have to run to the manager or a different player who has a good understanding of the English language. The spirit, meaning, passion is lost in the meantime.

Misbah obviously commands respect throughout the world in cricketing circles, as well as the local cricket setup and among the players.

Him coaching this team can pay dividends.

If you are excited over Anwar Ali, Shehzad, Kamran, Rahat, Sakil Ansari, Faisal Iqbal,Iftikhar Ahmed,Hafeez, Azhar, Shafiq, Ayub Dogar, Zulfi than Misbah is the right option.

We have too many young players and they should be sent back at least 5 years in domestic to improve skill.

Also Latif, Miandad, Sarfraz N , Mohsin, Razzak would be good as coaching staffs.

Dean Jones has been a successful coach with Islamabad United and has helped with development of guys like Shadab, Fahim Ashraf, Sharjeel Khan, Hussain Talat so it really is a no brainer that he should come in as a coach. He also understands the culture after that stint. Mike Hesson though a good choice but this will very much be uncharted waters for him.

If Pakistani ideally we should go for Mudassar Nazar and try to take him into confidence . He is the only Pakistani coach who is properly certified and has worked on many high performance roles with the ICC.

Can't use Shastri as an example.

India is Kohli's team. He controls everything. It's like a coach taking credit for Lebron's teams in the NBA.

Pakistan doesn't have a strong character like that, which makes Misbah's hiring an incredibly risky one. He has zero coaching experience and won't do well with a team that's as young as this one.

If they want to go with a Pakistani coach then it should be Mudassar Nazar. He's good with younger players, well-respected, and has years of experience.

I still believe a Hesson/Moody/Flower would do well if they're willing. Not so sure about Deano.

Cricketing teams like Australia and India realize that local coaches are the best option. They know their cricket setup inside out, know the players, their mindset, how best to utilize certain specialists.

One example is Shastri who was hired without even any coaching course, let alone coaching an international cricket team. Working wonders.

Misbah CAN be a good coach, but why are you hell bent on him being Pakistan Head Coach for his first job? Let him gain some experience with a lower profile position and let's see what he can do. It can turn out either way, but it makes no sense to take such a massive punt. You've outlined all the pluses, but he has a lot of negatives as well and those can't be ignored.
