Diogo Jota scored a stunning acrobatic volley as Wolves beat Armenians Pyunik 4-0 at Molineux and 8-0 on aggregate to set up a Europa League play-off tie with Italian side Torino.

Jota came off the bench late on to power home a sublime finish from Raul Jimenez's excellent lob.

Pedro Neto opened the scoring with a debut goal before academy graduate Morgan Gibbs-White turned in a cross.

Ruben Vinagre made it 3-0 from close range before Jota struck.

The 8-0 aggregate win is Wolves' biggest in Europe and means they are now just two games away from reaching the Europa League group stage.

But they will face a sterner test in Serie A side Torino, who beat FC Shakhtyor of Belarus 6-1 on aggregate. The two games against the Italians will take place on 22 and 29 August.

Wolves captain Coady writes to 48 fans in Armenia trip
Wolves are competing in Europe for the first time since 1980 and recorded their biggest ever continental victory in Armenia last week with a 4-0 win.

That result allowed them to be more relaxed about the return leg at Molineux and, unsurprisingly, manager Nuno Espirito Santo rang the changes.

Only skipper Conor Coady and Joao Moutinho retained their places from the side that drew with Leicester in their Premier League opener, while Jesus Vallejo, Neto and Patrick Cutrone were all given their full debuts.

    Wolves
Morgan Gibbs-White scored his first senior goal for Wolves on his 46th appearance for the club
The lack of urgency was clear in a first half largely devoid of chances and it was not until early in the second half that Wolves registered their first shot on target, Gibbs-White hitting an effort straight at the Pyunik goalkeeper.

But that chance seemed to stir the hosts into life and any glimmer of hope Pyunik had of staging an unlikely comeback was ended by a devastating 10-minute spell in which the hosts scored three and could have had more.

At 3-0 up, Nuno may have been tempted to tell his players to ease up but instead brought on star forwards Jota and Jimenez.

And the pair combined for a sensational goal as Jimenez scooped the ball up for Jota to dispatch a stunning volley.

Wolves looked comfortable in their first season back in the Premier League as they finished seventh. But the addition of competing in Europe this time presents an additional challenge - a congested fixture list.

Their progression to the play-off round means they face the prospect of five games in just 16 days between now and 1 September.

    What they said
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo: "It wasn't easy. Pyunik started the game very well again. I've spoken to their coach and wish them all the best for the future.

"I thought all my players did a very good job, not just the new players. The second-half display was very good.

"It was a good game. I think we started the game normally because some players take more time. As the game went by we started performing better and the second half was very, very good.

"I am pleased with all the team, all the players did a very good job."

Wolves are in a good position to qualify for the Europa League group stage for the first time after winning 3-2 away in Italy against Torino.

The visitors went ahead when Joao Moutinho's free-kick was headed into his own net by Torino's Gleison Bremer.

Diogo Jota doubled the advantage as he finished after Adama Traore's pass.

Lorenzo de Silvestri pulled one back, Raul Jimenez's calm finish restored Wolves' two-goal lead before Andrea Belotti's late penalty for Torino.

The two teams meet again at Molineux on 29 August with the winners of this play-off tie moving into the main group phase of the competition.

Wolves, playing in their first European campaign since 1980-81, will advance if they avoid defeat or only lose by one goal in a low-scoring second leg.

    Wolves win despite tough schedule
Nuno Espirito Santo will be delighted with the performance of his team, who were playing for the second time in four days after drawing 1-1 against Manchester United in the Premier League, while Torino are yet to start their Serie A campaign.

This was the English side's seventh match in 29 days and Nuno opted to rest midfielder Ruben Neves, who had scored a wonderful goal against United.

But the gamble paid off as Wolves edged a thrilling game at the Stadio Olimpico Grande in Turin.

Indeed, Nuno may even be disappointed they do not have a two-goal advantage as Belotti's 89th-minute penalty - following a clumsy challenge on him from Ruben Vinagre - gave the Italians a lifeline.

In added time, Torino had a chance to snatch an equaliser but goalkeeper Rui Patricio produced a fine save to deny Belotti his second goal.

    Lightning-quick Traore impresses again
The half-time introduction of the rapid Traore changed the game against United on Monday and the Spaniard was rewarded for his efforts with a place in the starting line-up in Italy.

Operating again at right-wing back, his speed and directness caused Torino serious problems, with Wolves nearly scoring after 12 minutes when Traore's run and cross found Jota, whose low shot was kept out by the legs of home goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

Nicolas Nkoulou headed against the bar for the hosts before Sirigu was beaten, albeit by one of his own players as Bremer headed in following Moutinho's excellent set-piece delivery.

Traore was heavily involved again as Wolves doubled their lead after another direct run and a well-timed Cruyff turn gave him space to set up Jota who this time converted the chance.

However, two minutes later Torino grabbed their first goal with De Silvestri heading in from Cristian Ansaldi's cross.

But it was not long before Wolves were two goals in front again, with the referee playing a good advantage after Pedro Neto was fouled and Jimenez running through the defence to beat Sirigu for his fifth goal in this Europa League campaign.

Wolves had reached this phase with a 6-1 aggregate win over Northern Ireland's Crusaders and then an 8-0 overall success against Pyunik of Armenia.

Torino, who finished seventh in Serie A last season and are managed by former Watford boss Walter Mazzarri, were always going to be a tougher challenge and Belotti's penalty gives the Italians hope for the second leg.

'Far from being over' - what they said
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo said: "It's far from being over, it's a close tie.

"We played good, we were organised, we stayed in shape, we produced some goals but, like I say, there's still one game to go and we have to be really, really good to perform again against a very, very good team."

On the performance of Traore, Nuno added: "I'm pleased. He helped the team, others did what they had to do. It's about tasks, it's about rules, it's about always being a team."

    What's next?
Wolves play for the third time in a week when they entertain Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday, 25 August (16:30 BST). Torino have a week off before the second leg at Molineux next Thursday.

Rangers have been ordered to close part of Ibrox for Thursday's meeting with Legia Warsaw following "racist behaviour - which includes sectarian singing" from fans.

The punishment from Uefa relates to the Europa League first round, second leg against St Joseph's on 18 July.

Rangers must close at least 3,000 seats and display a banner with "#EqualGame" on it in the empty section.

They are yet to announce the area to be shut for the sold-out game.

The tie is in the balance after Thursday's first leg in Warsaw finished goalless.

Thursday's first leg in Warsaw finished 0-0.

"Our supporters have been asked repeatedly by the club to refrain from indulging in this, and other forms of unacceptable behaviour," said a statement from the Scottish club.

"Sadly, the warnings have fallen on deaf ears and the actions of this minority will cause the club and the majority of good and decent Rangers supporters to pay a heavy penalty.

"Unfortunately, a significant number of supporters, innocent of any wrongdoing, will be unable to attend next week's match. This is deeply regrettable to all at the club and we hope that the guilty parties who attracted the attention of Uefa might reflect on the damage their unacceptable behaviour is causing Rangers and their fellow supporters.

"If any individual supporter is unable to behave in a civilised manner then please stay away from Ibrox and our club.

"You are harming Rangers and that is something a genuine supporter would never wish to do."

Gerrard wants 'rocking Ibrox' for Legia tie
Rangers chairman Dave King added: "Rangers is a club open to all and we will continue to convey this message at every opportunity through our Everyone Anyone initiative.

"Rangers has players and supporters from many religions, cultures and backgrounds but we are one and the same when we gather to support our club. If any supporter cannot accept that then Rangers is not the club for them."

The Scottish FA and Scottish Professional Football League have declined to comment.

Celtic: Club charged for fireworks and throwing objects

Celtic have been charged by Uefa for disturbances during their Europa League match against AIK Stockholm last week.

The offences relate to fans setting off fireworks and throwing objects as well as blocking stairways in the play-off second leg.

The Scottish champions claimed on Friday Swedish supporters entered their section of the Friends Arena.

Uefa's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body meet will meet on 19 September to decide the matter.

Celtic won the tie 6-1 on aggregate to progress to the group stage.

Their last charge from European football's governing body came in 2017 when a fan ran on to the pitch at Celtic Park and aimed a kick at Paris St-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe, resulting in a 8,900 fine.

In July of that year, Celtic were also fined 20,600 after an "illicit banner" was displayed during their Champions League qualifying win over Linfield.

It comes less than a week after Rangers were ordered by Uefa to close a section of Ibrox for a second time after being found guilty of a second charge of sectarian chanting.

Partizan Belgrade head coach Savo Milosevic hopes Thursday's Europa League match against Manchester United will be a "celebration of football".

The Serbian side had to play their last two European home games behind closed doors after racist abuse by supporters.

Serbia then received a similar ban for racist abuse by fans in last month's Euro 2020 qualifier with Portugal.

"I expect everything to be fair and in the spirit of the sport," said ex-Aston Villa striker Milosevic.

Partizan Belgrade cheered on by 22,000 children after racism ban
"We know of our supporters, we are aware of the importance of the game and we are also aware of the problems we have had in the past.

"But tomorrow (Thursday) will once again be a celebration of football, so I don't expect any problems in that regard. We all know how important the support from the home fans can be."

On Monday Uefa gave Serbia a two-match ban on spectators, the second of which is suspended for a 12-month probationary period.

United players Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire were on the field when racism marred last week's Euro 2020 qualifier in Bulgaria, with this the England duo's first away match since.

'United youngsters will become key men'
United and Partizan go into Thursday's game joint-top of Group L, but since beating Astana 1-0 in their group opener United have only won once in six matches - on penalties against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup.

"It's impossible for one club to be always on the top level," added Milosevic, who played for Villa between 1995 and 1998.

"In my era, Manchester United was one of the best teams in the world with Sir Alex Ferguson. It's difficult to stay on that level always. But Manchester United is definitely in the top three biggest clubs in the world even today.

"I am certain that in the future, all of Europe will see how good they are. They have some extraordinary young players and it's a question of time for them to become key players and lead them forward."

    Best of the stats
The only previous occasion Partizan and Man Utd have met was in the 1965-66 European Cup semi-finals. Partizan won the home leg 2-0 before losing 0-1 away to reach the final.
This is Man Utd's first meeting with Serbian opposition (including when part of Yugoslavia) since the 1991 European Super Cup, when Brian McClair's goal saw them beat Red Star Belgrade 1-0.
Man Utd remain unbeaten in 13 Europa League matches since defeat away to Fenerbahce in November 2016 (W9 D4) - they have kept nine clean sheets in this run, never conceding more than once in a game.
Partizan are unbeaten in 11 home games in European competition (W8 D3).
Man Utd could fail to score in three consecutive away matches in major European competitions for the first time since a run of five matches ending in November 2005.

Wolves fans have been told not to wear club colours at Thursday's Europa League game at Slovan Bratislava.

The club have given 200 corporate tickets for the 'behind-closed-doors' Group K fixture to long-standing fans.

The fans will take their place in a crowd likely to be around 21,000 after Uefa told Slovan they could invite children aged 14 and under to the game.

The restrictions are Uefa's punishment for previous instances of racism at the club's stadium.

Uefa ruled in August that Slovan must play two European games in an empty stadium as a consequence of racist chanting and banners during a Europa League play-off against PAOK.

It is not known whether the 'away' section will be closed or used by home supporters. The corporate tickets are in the main stand close to the halfway line.

"As we understand it, there are going to be kids groups from all over Slovakia and even some from the Czech Republic," said Wolves fan Peter Abbott, who estimates he has only missed two Wolves games in 44 years.

"It will be an interesting experience. I really don't know what to expect."

Under Article 73 of Uefa's regulations, accompanied children, aged 14 and under, from local schools and football academies can be invited.

Abbott arrived in Bratislava on Wednesday and reported there had been no issues.

The Wolves supporters will collect their tickets from club officials on Thursday.

"I don't think Slovan Bratislava's corporate will be the same as the corporate at Molineux," said Abbott.

"We have been told not to wear club colours, which is what we will have to do.

"It seems a shame Wolves fans can't buy tickets as normal because we have done nothing wrong."

Wolves are currently third, with three points from two games in Group K. Slovan Bratislava top the group with four points, ahead of Braga on goal difference.

Arsenal will play their Europa League group game against Vitoria SC at an unusual time on Wednesday, to avoid traffic congestion in Portugal.

The tie will be played at 15:50 GMT on 6 November - a day earlier than the other 23 fixtures taking place.

Portuguese rivals Braga host Besiktas at the Municipal Stadium on Thursday, 15 miles from Vitoria's home ground.

By moving Arsenal's game, Uefa hopes to ease pressure on Portuguese authorities and avoid busy traffic.

As well as moving the fixture a day earlier, the game is kicking off at an unusual time to avoid broadcasting clashes with the Champions League.

Europa League matches usually take place at either 17:55 GMT or 20:00 GMT on Thursdays.

Vitoria's group game with Standard Liege with also take place on a Wednesday, moving from 28 November to 27 November.

Paris - Last season's Europa League finalists Arsenal and 2017 champions Manchester United can clinch places in the last 32 of the competition this week, while group leaders Celtic face a "titanic game" away to Lazio.

Arsenal have won just twice in nine Premier League outings but are chasing a fourth straight victory in Group F away to bottom side Vitoria Guimaraes on Wednesday.

Gunners boss Unai Emery has stripped Granit Xhaka of the captaincy in the wake of an emotional outburst towards supporters in last month's draw at home to Crystal Palace.

"I was speaking with him this morning and I decided he's not one of the captains in our group and I decided that and I told him this morning," Emery said Tuesday. "He accepted my decision."

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who wore the armband at the weekend against Wolves and will take over the role full-time, was also left out the travelling squad along with Mesut Ozil and David Luiz.

United can punch their ticket to the knockout phase on Thursday with another win over Partizan Belgrade, the Serbian side coached by former Aston Villa striker Savo Milosevic.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team registered a 1-0 win in Belgrade a fortnight ago and are one of just two clubs yet to concede a goal in the competition.

The Norwegian urged his United players to bounce back from Saturday's 1-0 loss at Bournemouth that left them a dismal 10th in the table.

"You have got to react, you have got to recover," said Solskjaer, who is still without Paul Pogba because of an ankle problem.

"We have two more games before the international break, we've got a chance on Thursday to qualify in Europe and then Brighton at home - so we need a response."

    'Huge incentive'

Back-to-back home wins have fired Celtic top of Group E and the Scottish champions could qualify with three points in the Italian capital, if Rennes fail to beat Cluj.

Neil Lennon's side will make the trip full of confidence after setting up a League Cup final clash with Rangers following a 5-2 win over Hibernian.

"We know what a huge incentive it is to go to Rome and get a result, and off the back of the semi-final win and the feel-good factor, psychologically, the players will all be in a good place," said Lennon.

"It's a titanic game ahead of us, we know the calibre of opposition we've got on Thursday night in Lazio, but it's not beyond us."

Steven Gerrard's Rangers face two-time European champions Porto at Ibrox knowing a victory would leave them well positioned in Group G.

Wolves will look for a third consecutive win in Group K at home to Slovan Bratislava having recovered well from an opening loss in their first European campaign since 1980.

Record five-time winners Sevilla, who have maximum points and top Group A, will advance with victory away to Luxembourg's Dudelange, while Roma travel to Borussia Moenchengladbach in Group J.

The two sides drew 1-1 in Italy a fortnight ago when Lars Stindl converted a contentious stoppage-time penalty for Gladbach.

Eintracht Frankfurt, who lost to eventual champions Chelsea on penalties in last season's semi-finals, will look to keep the momentum going against Standard Liege after Saturday's 5-1 demolition of Bayern Munich.

Inter Milan are expected to play their home Europa League last-32 match against Ludogorets behind closed doors because of fears about the spread of coronavirus.

Inter were one of four Serie A clubs to postpone their weekend game.

Talks have been taking place between the club, Italian government officials and European football's governing body Uefa about Thursday's fixture.

With 165, Italy has the largest number of cases of the virus in Europe.

Many schools and colleges have been closed in Milan on Monday, although the local transport system is operating.

More than 600 Ludogorets fans were due to travel from Bulgaria for Thursday's Europa League last-32 first-leg match at the San Siro (20:00 GMT kick-off).

Coronavirus' impact on sport - timeline
It is not known whether any restrictions will be applied to Sunday's Serie A match between Juventus and Inter in Turin. The teams are first and third respectively in Italy's top flight.

However, after a meeting of league officials on Monday, Italian football federation (FIGC) president Gabriele Gravina said: "For our Serie A championship we have planned for and asked to play the games behind closed doors.

"That could happen as early as Sunday."

Speaking on television on Sunday Italian prime minister, Giuseppe Conte, discussed the possibility of postponing more matches: "I too am a sports fan, and we will have to suffer a little bit, but at this point in time I wouldn't even know whether these measures [prohibiting large gatherings] will continue to be enforced into next week."

In the regions of Lombardy and Veneto, a lockdown is in place in several small towns. For the next two weeks, 50,000 residents will not be able to leave without special permission.

Even outside the zone, many businesses and schools have suspended activities, and sporting events have been cancelled.

About 77,000 people in China, where the virus emerged last year, have been infected and nearly 2,600 have died.

More than 1,200 cases have been confirmed in about 30 other countries and there have been more than 20 deaths. Italy reported two more deaths on Monday, raising the total there to five.

In rugby union, Italy v Scotland in the Women's Six Nations was postponed on Sunday.

Pro14 games involving Ospreys and Ulster in Italy next weekend have been called off. Ospreys were due to play Zebre in Parma with Treviso the venue for Ulster's game against Benetton.

The Italian Rugby Federation has suspended its National Championship and youth games next weekend.

Coronavirus: Man Utd match at LASK behind closed doors

The first leg of Manchester United's Europa League last-16 tie at LASK on Thursday will be played behind closed doors because of coronavirus concerns.

Chelsea's Champions League last-16 tie at Bayern Munich on 18 March will also be played without fans present.

LASK made the decision following advice from the Austrian government.

United have sold their allocation of just under 900 tickets but the game is one of several European fixtures that will have no spectators.

Wolves' Europa League last-16 first-leg match at Olympiakos on Thursday will also be played in a near-empty stadium.

Wolves have asked for the game to be postponed and their manager Nuno Espirito Santo has said: "If we have to go we will. But we don't agree - we're not happy to go."

Bayern confirmed the second-leg match against Chelsea will be played behind closed doors after a ban on gatherings of more than 1,000 people was issued by the regional Bavarian government in Germany on Tuesday.

Chelsea are trailing 3-0 on aggregate from the first leg.

Rangers' Europa League last-16 second-leg at Bayer Leverkusen on 19 March could also be affected by a ban on mass gatherings in the North Rhine-Westphalia region.

Sporting events in Europe have been affected as a result of the spread of the virus, with games being played without fans or, such as two of the three final-weekend Six Nations rugby matches, postponed.

The Europa League tie between Sevilla and Roma in Spain and Inter Milan's match against Getafe in Italy have been postponed because of coronavirus.

Both last-16 first-leg games were due to be played behind closed doors on Thursday but have been called off after Spanish authorities imposed travel restrictions between Spain and Italy.

Uefa said it will communicate further decisions on both games in due course.

Roma had already said they would not be travelling to Seville.

Getafe president Angel Torres earlier said his club were refusing to travel to Italy for the game, even if it meant they were kicked out of the competition.

On Tuesday, Italian side Atalanta's Champions League game at Valencia on Wednesday went ahead as planned.

Italy has the most cases outside China with more than 10,000 and the entire country has been placed in lockdown.

Some 60 million Italians have been told to stay at home in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The region of Lombardy, where Milan is located, is at the epicentre of Europe's worse coronavirus outbreak.

Serie A, along with all sport in Italy, is currently suspended until 3 April, but this does not include Italian clubs or national teams participating in international competitions. In Spain, La Liga games are to be played without fans present until 15 April.

On Tuesday, the Spanish government decided to refuse entry to planes from Italy but Uefa requested an exception on behalf of Roma.

That request was denied by the Spanish government on Wednesday.

The Spanish (AFE) and Italian (AIC) players' unions have asked Uefa that games between Italian and Spanish teams be suspended.

The AFE has also called for the suspension of all matches in Spain instead of having them played behind closed doors.

The first leg of Manchester United's Europa League last-16 tie at LASK in Austria on Thursday will be played behind closed doors, as will Chelsea's Champions League last-16 tie at Bayern Munich on 18 March.

Wolves' Europa League last-16 first-leg match at Olympiakos on Thursday will also be played in a near-empty stadium, as will Rangers' second-leg tie at Bayer Leverkusen on 19 March in the same competition.

Uefa rejected Wolves' request to postpone the match in Greece - which the club said was an "unnecessary risk".

The disease, which can cause a fever, cough and breathing problems, is spreading around the world and has already affected more than 116,000 people.

Scientists have confirmed it takes an average of five days for symptoms to show.

Also on Wednesday, the French League Cup final between Paris St-Germain and Lyon - set for Saturday, 4 April at the Stade de France - was postponed because of the outbreak.

"A new date will be set depending on the evolution of the sanitary situation and on both club's future in European competitions," the French League said in a statement.

In Germany, Hannover 96 confirmed defender Timo Hubers, 23, had tested positive for the coronavirus and his team-mates, and the club's coaches and staff had been tested as a precaution.

Hannover sporting director Gerhard Zuber says Hubers is in self-isolation and confirmed that the club's second division fixture with Dynamo Dresden on Sunday will go ahead as planned.

Fifpro, the world players' union, have also released a statement on coronavirus, saying that "the football industry should consider extraordinary solidarity measures to protect the industry and support clubs".

"Professional footballers are concerned about themselves, their families and friends being exposed to coronavirus," the statement added.

"For players their exposure could come during travel, training and match days. Any actions relating to these activities must be co-ordinated in close co-operation with players and their unions."

Former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Gael Clichy says it would be "special and tremendous" if his side Istanbul Basaksehir were to face Manchester United in the Europa League.

The Turkish champions travel to FC Copenhagen in the last 16 on Wednesday with a 1-0 lead from the first leg.

A quarter-final tie with United would await, providing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side see off LASK.

"It's no secret I love England," Clichy said.

Listen to the full Clichy interview on the BBC Radio 5 Live Euro Leagues podcast
"We have to win our first game and that will be hard, so we cannot afford to think about United.

"But if we go through and play United, it would be special and tremendous. We would play with our quality."

Clichy was speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live's Euro Leagues podcast, in which the 35-year-old discussed his career, why he would love to return to England one day and how he hopes to follow in Pep Guardiola's footsteps.

    Expecting the unexpected in Turkey

Istanbul Basaksehir sealed the Turkish championship on 19 July, ending the dominance of the city's big three clubs Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas.

They are only the sixth team to win the league since its inception in 1959, an impressive achievement for a club that formed only 30 years ago.

"We have been a bit lucky and we managed to do it," said Clichy.

"It is a very big achievement. Since 1959, only five other teams have won the league in Turkey so for us to come in and do it is a really big achievement."

Istanbul Basaksehir clinched the title with a 1-0 win over Kayserispor, with Clichy scoring the winning goal.

However, the title celebrations were delayed as, with 15 minutes of the game remaining, the power went out in the stadium.

"If there is one place you expect these things to happen it is Turkey," Clichy said.

"I have been here three years and you see things you don't see elsewhere. The beauty in Turkey is anything can happen.

"Playing Fenerbahce away last season - we scored a perfectly valid goal, the referee went to see the VAR, the VAR was power cut, so the referee cancelled the goal."

Istanbul Basaksehir have a number of other familiar faces on their books including former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, ex-Newcastle and Chelsea forward Demba Ba, and Robinho, who spent two years at Manchester City from 2008.

All four players are in their mid-30s, but Clichy insists the quartet at not at the club to wind down their playing careers.

"We are not pre-retirement, we are working," he said.

"When I came to visit, I told the president I am not Lionel Messi but what I can bring is what I have learnt. We bring that to the table. We played 40 plus games and I played 37.

"We are the first on the pitch, the last on the pitch. The players are learning from us and the football is going to get better in Turkey if they can keep bringing old players like us in."

Like Clichy, Robinho also played for Manchester City, although their time at Etihad Stadium did not coincide.

Robinho did not score for Istanbul Basaksehir this season, but Clichy says his team-mate brings many other qualities on to the pitch.

"Robinho is a very joyful Brazilian and you have to accept everything that comes with that," he said.

"You have to accept who he is and how he is. Some people expect him to do more, but what he did 10 years ago is not possible. He is a very interesting guy and a good team-mate

"You don't pay to come and see Clichy, because I don't do tricks. What Robinho will do is special. You have to respect that because he was a special player."

Clichy only recently turned 35 and says he has no plans to retire just yet.

The former France international spent 14 years playing in England and he suggested he would be keen to return there as a player before he looks to take his career in a different direction.

"I think I still have two years in the legs, but the years spent with Pep Guardiola made me want to become a coach," Clichy said. "I am going to give it a go because I love the way he conducts himself as manager.

"I want my three years here in Turkey, I've liked that I could be important to players around me.

"(After that) England is an option and staying in Turkey is an option. England is a place I love, but I call it home and coming back home would be great for my family and me."

Just look at the cheap teams in the Europa League. Now compare them to the ones playing in the Champions League. Then think of the reigning champions of Europe's premier competition to put things in to perspective. I can see Man Utd fans howling and beating their chests in frustration as they prepare to take on the mighty LASK!!

Manchester United came from behind to beat Austrian side LASK at Old Trafford, advancing to the quarter-finals of the Europa League 7-1 on aggregate.

Anthony Martial came off the bench to score the winner four minutes from time, collecting Juan Mata's precise through ball before finishing off his 23rd goal of the season from 10 yards.

Earlier, Mata also provided the assist for Jesse Lingard to score for the second consecutive game.

Having broken his Premier League duck for the season in the very last minute of the final match - at Leicester - it meant Lingard was scoring in successive games for the first time since he did so December 2018.

That was in the matches against Liverpool and Cardiff that bookended the final game of Jose Mourinho's time in charge at Old Trafford and the first of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's.

It was tough luck on the Austrians, who were the better side in the first half, despite trailing 5-0 from their home game in March.

When skipper Philipp Wiesinger curled an excellent shot into the top corner after 55 minutes, it looked like they were heading for a famous victory.

But Lingard replied two minutes later and Solskjaer could even give 18-year-old defender Teden Mengi his debut as the clock ticked down to the final whistle.

Having already secured a place in next season's Champions League, United will now play Danish side FC Copenhagen in Cologne in the quarter-finals of the 'Final 8' tournament on 10 August.

The 'Final 8' is taking place in Germany, with the final itself being held in Cologne on 21 August.

The draw for the remainder of the competition has already taken place. Wolves are potential semi-final opponents, so there cannot be an all-English final.

However, Inter Milan, with three former United players - Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez - are potential final opponents.

The build-up to this game was dominated by news of Jadon Sancho's likely arrival and Sanchez's imminent exit.

If the Sancho deal eventually happens, the England wide-man will be competing with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood for the forward spots.

And it would mean fewer opportunities for the pair who started in the wide positions against LASK, both of whom scored in the first leg.

Juan Mata cost United a then club record 37.1m when David Moyes signed him from Chelsea in January 2014. Mata's arrival in a helicopter was memorable and he has enjoyed moments of success.

However, at 32, it is hard to see him making much of an impact on Solskjaer's side given the pace they play with. Mata has scored three times this season but has made just two 10-minute substitute appearances since the resumption, which says a lot.

Mata's ability has never revolved around pace. He prefers to play with his brain and, going about his business largely unnoticed, he ended the evening with two excellent assists, which showed his passing range.

It took a long, straight pass to send Lingard through. The one he found Martial with was shorter - but equally precise.

United sources have admitted they took a punt on Daniel James, who signed last summer for 15m from Swansea after a recommendation from Ryan Giggs.

The 22-year-old has age as well as time on his side. But the Welshman looks a shadow of the player who made such a blistering start to his United career, scoring three goals in his first four appearances.

Had he shown more conviction, James might have been able to reach Brandon Williams' low second-half cross. Instead, it evaded him and the rest of the game passed without a significant contribution.

A total 54 minutes in five substitute appearances since starting the first game since lockdown at Tottenham on 19 June does not hint at James playing an integral role when United head to Germany looking to win their first trophy in three seasons.

United look to end three-year trophy wait
While it would be tempting to think United do not have to take this competition quite so seriously now their Champions League place no longer rests on winning it, that would be to ignore the club's recent history.

Not since the 1980s have the club failed to win a trophy in three consecutive seasons, which is the fate that awaits them if they miss out in this tournament.

They will be encountering a familiar face in the last eight following FC Copenhagen's 3-0 win over Istanbul Basaksehir.

Uruguayan defender Guillermo Varela made a total of 11 appearances in four seasons on the books at United, although he only actually played for them in the 2015-16 campaign.

Coincidentally, his last appearance came in the Europa League, against Liverpool in March 2016.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to BT Sport: "Some of these lads haven't played for a while and it showed. We won, we gave a debut to a young lad, it's been a good night. For me it was a good exercise, it's job done, minutes under the belt and on to Copenhagen."

On debutant Teden Mengi: "He is a leader, a centre-back, someone we believe in, he's strong, quick, good on the ball and I think we've got a decent player there."

On the availability of Victor Lindelof for the quarter-final: "Victor should be OK to travel. It's great to get Eric [Bailly] through a game again, he's had his ups and downs with injuries."

Mata's magic touch - the stats
Manchester United remain unbeaten in their 10 meetings with Austrian opponents in all European competition. It's the most they've met sides from a specific country without defeat.
Manchester United have netted 23 goals in the Europa League this season, at least four more than any other side in the competition.
Manchester United have used 38 players in the Europa League this season - the most different players a team has used in a single campaign in Uefa Cup/Europa League history.
Anthony Martial is now Manchester United's top scorer in all competitions this season with 23 goals. The Frenchman had scored just 23 goals in his last two campaigns combined for the Red Devils.
Jesse Lingard has scored in back-to-back matches for Manchester United for the first time since December 2018.
Philipp Wiesinger's opener for LASK was the first goal Manchester United have conceded at home in the Europa League this season.
No player has provided more assists in the Europa League this season than Man Utd's Juan Mata (5), with the Spaniard setting up both of the Red Devils' goals.
