India [256/4] beat West Indies [240/7] by 6 wickets in the 3rd ODI, win series 2-0

West Indies, having lost the second one-day international after a middle-order failure, will hope for an improved batting performance in the final game, to draw level in the three-match series.

    Overview

West Indies v India, 3rd ODI
Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad
    14 August, 9:30am local time, 1:30pm GMT

West Indies, much like they did in the World Cup, allowed their opponents to come back into the game after being in a position of strength. Going into the final ODI, they face the prospect of another series defeat. Jason Holder's men will look to lift themselves up and finish with a win, if they are to avoid slipping to No.8 on the MRF Tyres ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings.

India, meanwhile, are on the verge of registering their ninth successive series win against West Indies. While Virat Kohli continued his dominance in the 50-over format, Shreyas Iyer made a strong case for himself with a fluent 71 on his return. India will hope for a strong performance from Shikhar Dhawan, who is yet to produce an innings of note on the tour so far.

    Remember the last time
Powered by Kohli's 42nd ODI hundred, India posted 279/7 after winning the toss on Sunday. At 148/3 in the 28th over, with set batsmen Evin Lewis and Nicholas Pooran at the crease, West Indies looked well on course to chase down the revised target of 270 in 46 overs. However, they lost four wickets in two overs not long thereafter, and were eventually bundled out for 210 in 42 overs for a 59-run defeat by the DLS method.

Jason Holder, West Indies captain: "We bowled really well and the game was in our hands. We need to take the game deep. The pitch was pretty good but the bowlers despite the humid conditions did well. The batters have to take the responsibility. They have been letting us down far too often."

Shreyas Iyer, India middle-order batsman: "I knew I was going to do well, I played for India A and I played in these grounds, paced my innings well, and think it went well. I am thankful for what I managed. I want to stay in the team for a while, the consistency is always important, I want to play well and contribute to the team."

    Conditions
A full 100-over game is doubtful, as there is forecast for rain throughout the day. Teams batting first have won five of the last six ODIs at Queen's Park Oval, and hence the toss might once again play a crucial role.

Is Kohli one of the all time dumb captain. It is a known fact Gayle is not comfortable against spin upfront. I still can't believe how he is still able to hold on to his job.

It worked for them 11 overs. Not a bad decision to keep going. Even if it doesn't come off there are plenty of batsmen to come.

Chahal is a one trick pony. He is useless if he cannot get wickets. Hi batting is atrocious and in this day and age you need bowlers who can tonk it around when needed and also score 15-20 runs.

I for one do not want to see Chahal in ODI team. No wonder Jaddu clawed his way back into LOI team because he can bat. Kuldeep and Chahal are duds with the bat.

Captain and coach are busy saving their own seats for the next World Cup. They don't have time to think about others. We are going to lose upcoming ICC tournaments as well. Thanks to Kohli and his ego. If he had any shame he would have resigned from the captaincy. We haven't won any major ICC tournament under him and he still has the guts to ask for Shastri as our coach again.

This team looks all messed up currently. Jadhav should be kicked and Pant should bat at 6/7. Guys like Gill should be given a chance now.

Pant should be dropped from ODI team after this effort. He is clearly playing like it is street cricket.

India should try someone like Ishan Kishan or Samson or even KL Rahul as keeper batsman.

Pant can stick to Test Cricket and until he matures he should not play ODI cricket. He thinks LOI cricket is all about playing cross batted hacks. All he had to do is support Kohli. Can't even do that.

Kohli was reasonably strong even in the world cup with 5 fifties. He is such a natural risk free cricketer. That is why he will continue to be consistent. You want to get him. Do it very early in the first 2 or 3 overs.

Have been saying it for so long that he is a tullaybaaz. You just have to watch how he bats, his balance, his game awareness and his shot selection. Doesn't take long for a person who has been watching cricket for so many years to figure it out. But no we are dhoni fans, we are jealous fans blah blah blah.

Yeah he is such a treat to watch when on song.

It is really harsh to say Kohli doesnít perform in World Cup.

Apart from the 2011 edition where he averaged 34 odd, he averaged 55+ in 2015 WC and 50 odd in 2019.

Pant is proving you right with each passing game. I feel his days are numbered if he does not improve.

I havenít seen a worse shot in a very, very long time in ODI cricket, keeping in mind the context of the game.

This is the first time Iíve watched an India batsman who is so overrated.

    And his name is Pant.

He isnít capable to carry on the legacy of Indian batting.

Lol watch the odi series West Indies played in India last time. Look at his shots there. It was at that time I said he is a tullaybaaz and lacka game awareness. Thankfully Karthik Sahab saved India on that day. He played those foolish shots twice in that series.

On top of that he is batting at a very important position of number 4 where legends used to bat for every team.

I want to see Iyer do this against better opposition like Australia or England or NZ. WI bowling is a joke.

So far, Iyer looks really good. Agreed that Gill should have been playing in place of Jadhav.

He has to now because his fans have already proved that he is a better player than Dhoni because he got two test hundreds. One was against the weakest Australian team ever and second one was against England in a dead rubber test match which we also lost it in the end.

    Dhoni is a LO ATG.

To replace him would be a huge task.

This type of inning was required from him in the semi final. He surely flopped there.
