Muhammad Irfan is getting good bounce, definitely needs to be considered for the Australian series if he's fitness is up to par. Shaheen, Abbas and Irfan (with Husnain on bench) should definitely be the bowling attack. Bilal Asif also bowled some great lines, might be more potent in Australia where you get a bit more bounce.

Kokabura balls is ideal when the pitch isn't slow and has enough bounce otherwise it is a torture for bowlers. Just because batsman are scoring doesn't mean it is a good pitch. We need to get the feedback from players to get the understanding of the pitch in these three FC matches

Create the right balance between batting and bowling

The pitches need to be better.

If we're going to play international cricket with the Kookaburra then we need to do the same for domestic cricket.

Irfan is officially 37 years old. I doubt he has the fitness for Test cricket. Didn't have the fitness at 31 either.

Definitely don't need slow and low pitches so there is lots of room for improvement.

Agree, but think the UAE is having an influence.

Saying that, from the highlights it looks like the other pitches have a bit more pace and bounce.

PCB has to let the teams know they have to get on with the game. Just because pitches have been made easier for batting does not mean that batsman use these games as glorified match practice to stake test spot claims.

Its just the 2nd day of QAE trophy, pitches will obviously change over the tournument.

People were having problems when bowlers were getting wickets everywhere and we had lower scores in almost every other match last year, now people have issues with high scores (Though its just the 2nd day of 3 month or so tournament).

I understand, everyone wants to see a balance between bat and bowl however its not that easy to achieve especially when this is the first time tournament has been professionalized to this level.

If the scores would have been like County Championship Div one where teams are getting out on less than 200 as well in quite a few occasions than I am pretty sure people would have had problems with that.

PCB should bring curators from England to advise local curators how to prepare good pitches. The pitches should be good for batting and bowling.I know England has a different climate and it is difficult to make similar piches in Pakistan but pitches can still be imptoved. Also different venues should have different types of pitches eg bouncy, slow or quick.Perth in Australia is good for fast bowling.Headingly is offers swing.Oval in London is good for batting if batsmen can get in.

County Championshipís 1st div scores dont reflect a good balance between bat and bowl as there quite a lot of scores below and around 200. Even some English experts want wickets to be be such where batsmen can score runs and get into habit of that.

That being said collaboration and sharing knowledge always helps to prosper and improve.

A career-best 249 not out by opener Abid Ali kept Sindh in the driver’s seat against Balochistan on the second day of the four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam trophy fixture at the UBL Sports Complex on Sunday.

The 31-year-old slapped 26 fours in a 512-ball innings during a 712-minute stay at the crease that propelled the home side to declare their first innings at 473 for five after starting the day at 237 for two.

Sindh were 301-3 in 110 overs, which gave them three bonus points – as per the newly-introduced playing conditions in the first-class cricket.

When stumps were drawn for the day, the visitors had reached nine for no loss with Imam-ul-Haq and Azeem Ghumman batting on nine and six.

For the second successive day, Abid dominated the proceedings as he showed great footwork and excellent hand-eye coordination during his marathon innings. After he had reached his century yesterday from 219 balls with 10 fours, he completed his double-century from 434 balls with 22 fours.

After putting on 212 runs for the opening wicket with Khurram Manzoor on Saturday, Abid added 97 runs for an unbroken sixth wicket off 158 balls with Sarfaraz Ahmed, who returned unbeaten on 44 from 78 balls with three fours.

Asad Shafiq, who had started the day with Abid but retired at the score of eight with a neck pain, returned to the crease at the score of 313 for four and was the fifth batsman to be dismissed at the score of 376 after scoring a 111-ball 37.

For Balochistan, Yasir Shah did bulk of the bowling and finished with figures of 47-6-127-3. Khurram Shahzad and Imran Farhat picked up a wicket each, conceding 46 and 51 runs, respectively.

By picking up only five wickets, Balochistan got only one bonus point.

    Scores in brief:

Sindh 473-5d, 169.5 overs (Abid Ali 249 not out, Khurram Manzoor 105, Sarfaraz Ahmed 44 not out, Asad Shafiq 37; Yasir Shah 3-127)

Balochistan 16-0, eight overs (Imam-ul-Haq 9 not out, Azeem Ghumman 6 not out)

    Abbottabad, 15 September 2019:

Northern gave a spirited reply to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s mammoth first-innings total in their first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy first round match at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Riding on a brilliant 176 from captain Muhammad Rizwan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa declared their first innings on 526 for nine in 136.4 overs. The home side had crossed the 400-run mark inside 110 overs, which bagged them five bonus points.

Northern, in reply, were 109 for the loss of just one wicket at stumps on the second day of the four-day, first-class fixture.

Opener Haider Ali batted patiently to be 56 not out and with him at close of play was left-handed Umar Amin on 20 not out. Haider has so far hit seven fours and a six off 124 balls in 184 minutes.

Afaq Raheem (25) was caught behind off left-arm paceman Junaid Khan

Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa began Sunday’s proceedings at the overnight score of 343-4. Rizwan continued from where he left off on Saturday evening, completing his ninth first-class century in the first hour.

The home team captain played some attractive shots in the course of his 257-ball, 340-minute innings. He hit 22 fours and two sixes.

Adil Amin was the first batsman out on the second day, but not before scoring his 13th half century at this level. He stayed at the wicket for 195 minutes and his 143-ball 73 included 11 boundaries. Together with Rizwan, the right-handed Adil added 156 runs for the fifth wicket stand.

There were also healthy contributions from Junaid Khan (28) and Irfan Khan (19) down the order.

Shadab Khan was the leading wicket-taker for Northern, the right-arm leg-spinner finishing with figures of 4-151 in 44 overs. Captain Imad Wasim, Sadaf Hussain, Musa Khan and Mohammad Nawaz took one wicket apiece.

By picking up nine wickets, Northern bagged three bonus points.

    Scores in brief:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 526-9 declared, 136.4 overs (Muhammad Rizwan 176, Ashfaq Ahmed 106, Adil Amin 73, Iftikhar Ahmed 35, Fakhar Zaman 33, Sahibzada Farhan 29; Shadab Khan 4-151)

Northern 109-1, 40 overs (Haider Ali 56 not out, Afaq Raheem 25, Umar Amin 20 not out)

    Lahore, 15 September 2019:

Southern Punjab’s Sami Aslam scored an eye-catching double-century to help his team to 467 all-out in their first innings on the second day of the four-day first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match against Central Punjab at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The left-handed opener added 92 runs to his overnight score and remained not out on 243, thus, becoming only the 12th batsman to carry bat in the first-class cricket at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Sami struck 30 exquisite fours and a six in his epic 601-minute innings during which he received 401 balls.

Although Adnan Akmal, who had started the day with Sami in their team’s overnight score of 291 for four, became Waqas Maqsood’s fourth victim very early on the second day, this had no bearing on Southern Punjab’s innings, thanks to a blistering 64 by Aamer Yamin.

The all-rounder struck 11 fours in his 67-ball knock, which upped Southern Punjab’s run-rate and got them five bonus points for crossing the 400-run mark inside 110 overs – as per the new playing conditions for the 2019-20 season.

Aamer and Sami put a 100-run stand, which came in as many balls, for the sixth-wicket, before Bilal Asif accounted for the former’s wicket. The last four batsmen scored five runs – all of them coming off Zahid Mahmood’s bat.

Waqas, who had taken three wickets in the first session of the match yesterday, remained the pick of the bowlers from his side, finishing with four for 83.

Hasan Ali, who picked up Southern Punjab’s last two wickets, finished with three wickets and gave away 100 runs.

Only 18 overs were sent down in Central Punjab’s innings as bad-light put an 85-minute interruption in their innings. Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shehzad added 30 runs after the play resumed to take their side to 47 with no loss at stumps.

    Scores in brief:

Southern Punjab 467 all-out, 134 overs (Sami Aslam 243, Adnan Akmal 113, Aamer Yamin 64; Waqas Maqsood 4-83, Hasan Ali 3-100, Bilal Asif 2-116)

Central Punjab 47-0, 18 overs (Ahmed Shehzad 22 not out, Azhar Ali 20)

    Thatís a recipe for disaster.
It *may* actually help said bowlers develop long term skills to get batsman out, like adhering to line and length and perhaps out witting the batsman. Using Gray's balls and using the minefields that previous pitches used to be to get wickets didn't really develop bowlers, sculpt their thinking etc.

The pitches are a work in progress and a clear improvement on how they used to be. Rome wasn't built in a day, and the changes won't bring about instantaneous results for the next tour.

But hey, it's easier to b**** and moan here than appreciate constructive developments in Pakistan cricket

Ideally you want sporting wickets, a bit of juice for bowlers if they bend their back, but generally consistent bounce and swing... wickets where 300/350 would be a good first innings score. Going too far one way or the other is not good. People may not remember, but in the age of Inzi and Yousuf, when we didnít have any high quality fast bowlers apart from Akhtar (until Asif, Amir turned up) people used to complain about wickets being too flat, thus not allowing us to produce fast bowlers!

The change to greener, ‘fresher’ pitches in domestic cricket goes all the way back to 2003 under the directive of Rameez Raja. Average scores have just fallen ever since then.

Surprise surprise. Suddenly Sadaf Hussain doesn't take 6 wickets. Have seen him a lot in domestic. He was average previously as well and is average now as well. Just reaped the rewards of horrible pitches over the last 5 years.

Misbah should try out Amir Yamin in the Australia test series. A First class batting average of 37 and bowling average of 25 can't be overlooked. A much better option than Faheem.

It's good to see Shadab getting wickets, he should be Pak's leggie overseas.

Rizwan Is making a very strong claim for test WK/Batsman.

What a catastrophic error to combine dead wickets with useless Kookaburra balls.

    Flat Track bullies can celebrate.

Young pace bowlers will all get stress fractures and then reduce to military medium pace.

This is the dumbest idea I can possibly imagine.

It's necessary for batsmen to learn how to play long innings. Ideally, you'd want the pitches to be faster with a tinge of green on day one but PCB doesn't have the budget to change the soil.

It's gonna take time. Step by step.

I'd say it's an improvement from before.

Last season, every other bowler was bowling like Glenn Mcgrath/Wasim Akram in their prime. While batsmen had little opportunity to settle in.

Plus, the pitches will begin to change as winter rolls in and the temperature drops.

CP vs SP seems to be heading for a draw.

Flat wickets are natural for Pakistan and that has been the case historically. That said I want to see variety in pitches and every ground to have its own defining characteristics. We should have a couple of grounds be complete rank turners, some flat and supporting wickets and some grounds like Abbottabad and other Northern areas where there is always some swing on offer.

PCB should also have more comprehensive stats so that player's performances can be broken down in all sorts of manners.

The positive about Naseem is that he isn't very skinny, he seems quite strong and muscular, he hopefully shouldn't get injured too often even with that action.

Babar still kind of in the t20 mindset. Hopefully he comes back well in the 2nd inning (if there is one).

There you go Rahat Ali is reaping rewards for pitching the ball in right areas as did Waqas mazqsood.
But few ppl here are crying about the batting friendly nature of these pitches. Last few seasons they were complaining about the opposite.
These are the sort of pitches which produced greats in the past.
They just don’t understand it takes time for things to evolve ,it’s a completely new setup and things should improve gradually

so looking at the scores it seems that many batsmen are making decent scores which is how it should be. If a fast bowler can get wickets in these conditions and I mean big wickets then he should be looked at closely.

Its a good start and will ensure we get bowlers having to really get fit and bowl well to get wickets.
