PCB hoping to host South Africa, Ireland and Afghanistan in 2020 ahead of T20 World Cup

The Chief Executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Wasim Khan, has revealed that they are in contact with Cricket South Africa (CSA) for hosting a T20I series in Pakistan next year.

While talking to the media in Lahore, Khan said that they have invited South Africa cricket team to play a T20I series in March next year. The CSA is considering the option and will answer to the PCB shortly.

Moreover, the discussion to host Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is also underway.

“The revival of international cricket has gained grounds very quickly. We have fasten our efforts to bring big teams to the country and I hope things will get stronger soon,

“We are in talks with CSA and getting a positive response from them. I hope South Africa will tour Pakistan in March next year,” he said.

Khan also talked about the response from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) towards sending their team to play Test series in Pakistan in December this year. The PCB has already sent the schedule to the SLC according to which Karachi and Rawalpindi will host a Test match each.

“We are waiting for their response on the schedule. After hosting them successfully for the shorter format series, we are looking forward to their arrival in Pakistan for historic Test series,” he concluded.

Ireland is willing to come, probably not very attractive for commercial sponsors but PCB should invite them for a 3 match T20 series.

Full credit to Micky Arthur for realizing Babar Azam was born to bat at 3 in all formats.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has invited Cricket South Africa (CSA) to send its national team for a T20 series in Pakistan next March, according to chief executive officer Wasim Khan.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Khan said that they had also got positive signs from the Sri Lankan board that it would send a full strength side to play two Tests in Rawalpindi and Karachi in December.

"The gates to international cricket returning properly to Pakistan are open and there is no doubt that the recent tour by the Sri Lankan team to play the T20 and ODI series has helped us a lot," he said.

He said the Sri Lankan board would confirm the tour in a week's time.

The PCB official said that talks were going on with Cricket South Africa to send their team for a T20 series.

"We are hopeful they will come in late March as the series will also help both teams prepare for the World T20 Championship in October," he said.

A reliable source said that the South African board had given a positive reply and in all probability the tour would go ahead next year.

Khan said it was a good sign that presently the Bangladesh women's team and their under-16 team were in Pakistan playing bilateral series and hoped this would also lead to the Bangladesh board sending its senior team for a Test and T20 series early next year.

Meanwhile, the PCB has agreed to host its series of three T20 and three ODI matches against the England women's team in Malaysia in December.

The itinerary for the series is set to be announced in a few days time.

Apparently, the England cricket board (ECB) requested the PCB to schedule the women's series at a neutral venue and both boards agreed on Malaysia where Pakistan had also hosted Australia.

But before the series against England, Pakistan is waiting for a response from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over whether they will be hosting the Pakistan women's team as part of the ICC women's league matches.

Desperate to bring top cricket teams to the country, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approached South Africa for a limited overs series, next year. The PCB has also got in touch with Ireland for a series.

The PCB is also trying to convince Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to visit Pakistan in December and January to play the ICC World Test Championship matches.

“The Board is confident that it will be hosting at least four foreign teams in a span of five to six months next year after it invited South Africa and Ireland to tour Pakistan for limited over series,” a PCB source said.

Sri Lanka’s top players had opted out of the September-October series, which spanned 13-days.

Pakistan is keen to have the Ireland and South African teams for Twenty20 matches.

“South Africa is a top team while Ireland also carry substantial influence in the ICC so the PCB believes if these two teams come to Pakistan early next year it will pave the way open for even Australia, England and New Zealand to send their teams soon,” he said.

Pakistan has not hosted any home Test series since March 2009 when militants attacked the Sri Lankan team in Lahore leaving six Pakistani policemen dead and some visiting players injured.

I think because T20 series can be played in such a short space of time, its probably most ideal series to host if teams do tour pakistan.

PCB invites SA for T20I series next year: Sources

Pakistan has invited South Africa to tour the country for a three-match T20 International series next year, according to a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) source.

A source in the PCB said on Wednesday that a formal invite has been sent to Cricket South Africa to play three T20I matches in Pakistan after the Proteas’ ODI series in India next year.

“We have invited them to stop in Pakistan and play three T20 matches and their response has been good,” he said.

The series if confirmed is likely to be held after the Pakistan Super League in the last week of March.

The PCB has already invited Cricket Ireland to tour Pakistan after the PSL for a full series and is awaiting a reply.

Meanwhile, a senior official of the Board made it clear that there was no truth to speculation that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has refused to play Tests in Pakistan.

“The fact is that the PCB has now adopted a policy where it is averse to playing any of its home matches at neutral venues,” he said.

He said that once Sri Lanka came for a two-match Test series in December, there was no reason for Bangladesh to say no.

“Their security delegation has also been to Pakistan and visited venues,” he said.

The Bangladesh team is due to tour Pakistan from January 18.

PCB plans to host SA, Ireland, Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was planning to host South Africa, Ireland and Afghanistan for a limited-over home series after the Pakistan Super League (PSL) next year.

Pakistan’s schedule was very tight in the near future as after the ongoing Down Under tour, Sri Lankan team would be arriving Pakistan in December for a Test series. Following that Bangladesh team was likely to visit the country for another Test series.

“We have been in correspondence for hosting a series with our South Africa, Ireland and Afghanistan counterparts, as part of the preparations for the next year’s T20 World Cup. Their response have been positive but we have not yet received any official confirmation by their side,” a PCB official told APP on Thursday.

The official expressed the hope that talks with the cricket boards of the three countries were moving on effectively and PCB would succeed in persuading them to send their teams to Pakistan.

“South Africa is a one of the best world’s side, while Ireland has also developed into a good side. If anyone of them visits Pakistan, it will pave the way for other outfits such as England, Australia and New Zealand to visit Pakistan,” he said.

To a question, he said PCB had also informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) on the matter related to the sixth round fixture against India of the ICC Women’s Championship, which was scheduled in October.

“We have not gotten any word from BCCI despite ardent repeated reminders regarding the series dates and venues for the series,” he said.

Top four teams at the end of championship cycle would directly qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2021, while the bottom teams will play the qualifying round.

A 15-member Pakistan team led by Bismah Maroof would play three ODIs as part of the championship next month against England in Malaysia.

The three ODIs, part of seventh round fixture of the ICC Women’s Championship, serve Pakistan, ranked fifth in the eight-team table, with an opportunity to secure direct qualification in the ICC Women’s World Cup New Zealand 2021 by beating second-ranked England.

Pakistan, to date, have played 15 matches in the ICC Women’s Champions. They have won and lost equal number of matches with one of them ending in a tie.

Top four teams by the end of the two-year cycle, which concludes next year, along with the hosts will secure berths in the upcoming World Cup.
