The other names are all pretty well known by now, besides Mohammad Asad...

Anyone have some more info about him?

Doesn't seem to have featured in many matches recently (if it is the same guy).

I must say pretty impressive squad apart from one unknown muhmmad asad.
    Solid openers
    Strong middle order
    Inform wicket keeper
    One fast bowling allrounder
    One batting allrounder
One leg spinner who can bat
    One genuine left arm spinner
    One express pace bowler
With 2 more than decent new ball bowler

Don't rate rohail nazir too bad haris misses out who is modern day wicket keeper batsmen and is in reserve players

No. He could have been picked as one of the four overage players.

But they've opted for a pretty youthful squad. Even the overage players are 24-25. Last time Inzi threw in Rizwan as captain which was unnecessary for a tournament of this stature.

Pretty good. Though a bit surprised Zeeshan Malik didnt make it as he could have been in those 11 U23 players. While no doubt all the batsmen selected are pretty talented but, Zeeshan has proved himself more in domestics than few of the names mentioned.

It's good for him to continue playing the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy now that he's finally gotten a few good scores. 68, 216 and 59 in his last 3 innings.

Like the senior team but obviously in due time however, as he has started scoring runs in 4 day as well so as @Abdullah719 mentioned, there is no point in disrupting his momentum and the selection committee is might be thinking with the same pattern.

Its been a long time since we have had a decent young right handed opening batsman across the formats. Imam, Shan, Sami Aslam, Fakhar Zaman are all lefties while Abid Ali and Azhar Ali aren’t exactly young. However, both can give maybe 2-3 years max out of them so eventually Zeeshan, Haider etc will come in.

However I wont be surprised that if the selection happens early with Shan or any other opener failing.
Not to forget the next 4 test matches might be career defining for Shan if he plays as currently he has played 15 matches @ 26 and if it deteriorate by any chance rather than going up than I dont see many decent opening batsmen putting their hands up.

wait do I see people agreeing with a squad selection? I'm waiting for the doom merchants to turn up. Frankly these sort of squads are long overdue. Heres hoping some of these guys get promoted to the A squad and then the national side. This is how they should do it.

I dont know many of the players here as I dont tend to follow things as closely as I used to but its good to see Haider Ali there as I rate him.

Not sure what the fuss about Hasnain is..Ok he bowls fast but what else? I think we need to see him kick on now..

Hasnain is very flawed. His seam is bad. Also his knee in his delivery stride is bent way too much, it's the most I have ever seen, even more than Jason Holder. He will get injured with a knee that bent. It really is a miracle he can bowl so quick with such a bent knee. If you compare it to other guys around his age, Shaheen's knee is straight, Naseem's is straight, and Musa's is straight. A straighter knee allows you to bowl quicker (use physics) and also makes the bowler less injury prone. He will end up with knee, hip and back problems if he doesn't fix it.

He also needs rhythm in his run up, he seems to be laboring to the crease right now. He also needs to stop running on his heels (as Shoaib and Waqar pointed out), this means he is putting in more effort for his run up while not getting speed in it. If he runs normally, he will spend less energy and will approch the creasewith more rhythm, meaning he approaches the crease with more momentum going forward. He will also be able to bowl longer spells at a faster pace if he fixes his issues.

This is why he is being kept away from red ball cricket at the moment.

The squad has been jointly selected by the men’s senior and junior selection committees, and, as per the event playing conditions, it includes 11 players under 23 years of age, meaning players born on or after 1 September 1996 were eligible for selection, while the remaining four players are above 23 years of age.

Apart from the players impressing the selectors in this season’s domestic events, namely Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, National T20 Cup, National U19 Three-Day Tournament and National U19 One-Day Tournament, the squad also includes Khushdil Shah and Mohammad Hasnain, who are presently on national duty in Australia and will join the side in time for the Dhaka competition.

The 24-year-old Saud has played in three first-class matches this season for Sindh, while he also featured in three National T20 Cup fixtures in Faisalabad.

Rohail has been Pakistan U19 captain since April, he earlier this week captained Northern in their fifth round fixture against Southern Punjab. In the National T20 Cup, he appeared in seven matches, while he has played in all five Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixtures to date.

Pakistan have been placed in Group A along with Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Oman, and will play all their three matches in Cox’s Bazar with the opener against Afghanistan on 14 November. Group B includes India, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Nepal, with league matches to be played in Dhaka.

Mirpur will host the three knock-out matches with the two semi-finals on 20 and 21 November and the final on 23 November. The first semi-final will be between Group A winner and Group B runners-up, while the 21 November second semi-final will be between Group B winner and Group A runners-up.

    Squad (in alphabetical order):

    1. Saud Shakeel (captain)
    2. Rohail Nazir (vice-captain) (wicketkeeper)
    3. Akif Javed
    4. Amad Butt
    5. Haider Ali
    6. Hasan Mohsin
    7. Imran Rafiq
    8. Khushdil Shah
    9. Mohammad Asad
    10. Mohammad Hasnain
    11. Mohammad Mohsin
    12. Omair Bin Yousuf
    13. Saif Badar
    14. Sameen Gul
    15. Umar Khan

    Reserves:

Aamir Ali, Adil Amin, Hussain Talat and Muhammad Haris.

    Team management:

Ijaz Ahmed (Manager-cum-head coach), Rao Iftikhar Anjum (bowling coach), Abdul Majeed (assistant coach), Hafiz Mohammad Naeem Ul Rasul (physiotherapist), Saboor Ahmad (trainer), Usman Hashmi (analyst) and Muhammad Younas Butt (security manager)

    Pakistan’s schedule:

    14 November – v Afghanistan, Cox’s Bazar

    16 November – v Sri Lanka, Cox’s Bazar

    18 November – v Oman, Cox’s Bazar

    20 November – Semi-final 1 (winner Group A v runner-up Group B), Mirpur

    21 November - Semi-final 2 (winner Group B v runner-up Group A), Mirpur

    23 November - Final, Mirpur
    Pakistan Emerging 2018

    Mohammad Rizwan (c & wk)
    Sahibzada Farhan
    Zeeshan Malik
    Ali Imran
    Hussain Talat
    Saad Ali
    Khushdil Shah
    Saud Shakil

    Ashiq Ali
    Muhammad Asghar
    Ghulam Mudassar
    Sameen Gul
    Musa Khan
    Mohammad Ilyas
    Suleman Shafqat

The current squad looks more promising than the squad selected for the previous edition. It will be interesting to see if Pakistan (E) is able to defeat Afghanistan (E) or not, Afghanistan has really dominated Pakistan at the junior level in the past couple of years and then ofcourse the big match vs India, this Pakistan team should definitely perform well against them (only IF they can overcome their mental block of playing against India).

Anyone have some more info about him?

Doesn't seem to have featured in many matches recently (if it is the same guy).
I think, this guy was member of 2016 U19 WC squad, but not sure. Haven't played a FC/List A Game game yet.

Apart from that, this is probably the best squad that I have seen in many, many years from PCB. Instead of accommodating players, who couldn't be awarded a national squad spot, for the first time they have picked a squad which contains at least 12 future prospects. They are allowed to pick 4 over 23 players I believe - business usual, it could have been - Sarfraz (C), JK/Usman Shinwari/Bilal Asif and Ahmed Shehzad/Yamin!!!!!

This is excellent squad for such tournament

    1. Saud Shakeel (captain)
    2. Rohail Nazir (vice-captain) (wicketkeeper)
    3. Akif Javed
    4. Amad Butt
    5. Haider Ali
    6. Hasan Mohsin
    7. Imran Rafiq
    8. Khushdil Shah
    9. Mohammad Asad
    10. Mohammad Hasnain
    11. Mohammad Mohsin
    12. Omair Bin Yousuf
    13. Saif Badar
    14. Sameen Gul
    15. Umar Khan

They have made excellent bowling picks and batsmen most of whom will represent PAK in next few years. And, I believe this guy Mo Mohsin is the leggi - so, only missing piece is probably an offie - Sajid Khan, but it's not bad if that guy plays few more FC games during that period.

I can say that the revised operation model of Selection panel is working - this squad is definitely picked by people watching domestic games closely. A year back, players like Akif, Umer, Asad, Omair, Rafiq, Haider won't have been found even in list of probables.

Believe this is the same tournament where India sent its nondescript XI last year...in Sri Lanka? This time it'd be clashing with the domestic T20 tournament in India which is pretty much the audition for IPL. Expect BCCI to select another time pass XI for this.

Who were the selectors? These are great well wishers of Pakistan cricket.

For the first time ever a squad selected on the basis of merit only.

Most of the squad is compiled of guys who aren't an important part of their FC teams, besides Rohail, Haider, maybe Khushdil.

Doubt Misbah had any input, he has more than enough on his plate right now.

PCB's release says it was the senior and junior selection committees. So the 6 provincial coaches, and the junior selection committee consists of Saleem Jaffar, Arshad Khan (who is one of those 6 provincial coaches), Rao Iftikhar Anjum, Taufeeq Umar and Sanaullah Baloch.

Rao Iftikhar and Taufeeq Umar have both been working with the players specially the juniors at NCA also.

I don't think it's this guy. There was a young leg spinner from Abbottabad who was called up for some development get together at the NCA. He's been playing Under 19 cricket recently and taking wickets so more likely to be him. Especially considering the PCB have actively looking for leg spinners recently.

Thanks. I guess he is overage now thus not playing in the U19 tournaments this season.

Must be in consideration for a domestic cricket contract next year if he's been selected for this squad. It also makes sense for him to be a spinner considering that Umer Khan is the only other spinner in the squad.
