"The best thing for us is that our batting lineup is quite experienced" : Misbah-ul-Haq

Misbah speaking about the Australia series:

"Australia series is never easy for an Asian team. The best thing for us is that our batting lineup is quite experienced, most of the players have scored runs here before like Asad Shafiq and Azhar Ali. Shan Masood recently did well on bouncy pitches in SA"

"Our bowling has some youngsters with pace so hopefully we'll try to play well. When you have a team like this, you're ambitious and you expect good results"

"The most important thing here is that you're mentally upto it. New players like we have in the bowling dept. don't have any excess baggage, they're energetic like Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi who are bowling well"

"Babar Azam is in good form like was saw in T20s, Iftikhar Ahmed is playing well so the players are adjusting to the conditions"

"If we make a good number of runs, we have the resources to give Australia a tough time"

"Talent is always there in Pakistan, you have to channel is forward and link it with international cricket and that was missing for us. Now it's changing with the new system and we're trying to keep similar fitness standards and preparation levels at domestic cricket as are required for international cricket. I am in touch with coaches and we're trying to uplift these standards. We have struggled due to this gap in the past"

"When you're a senior player then responsibility on you increases. From the senior players, everyone always wants match-winning performances. Wahab and Amir are capable in white-ball cricket and for Pakistan it's important that they ready themselves to lead the attack with a World Cup coming up. Amir's bowling in the powerplay is important, then Wahab in middle-overs and then death bowling. Seniors have more responsibility to lead with performances and that's what we're looking for from them"

"We're trying to not discard any players quickly. We will have some time after the domestic season finishes, before the England tour begins so we'll try to evaluate our players for the T20 World Cup during that period. We will try to make a combination that can do well in the Asia Cup, World Cup and then the next World Cup as well, so we're trying to plan ahead. We'll need to know who are our #1 players and then we need to have backup as well"

"In Tests, our plus point is that the players specially the batsmen have played a lot of cricket and can do well in these conditions. Then our youth in the bowling, and Yasir Shah who toured Australia previously, this time he's come with better preparation and knows what he needs to do. I hope our preparation is better this time"

"You have to take 20 wickets to win a Test but to think about 20 wickets, you have to have runs on the board to be in the game. I think our batting lineup can do that"

"Keeping the morale high can be difficult when you've lost some matches. Winning is the best thing and losing is the worst thing. When you keep moving with settled things, you get settled results but when you want to improve some things or look towards the backup and prepare for the future then sometimes you have to make sacrifices. You have certain goals of achieving things in matches, you do want to win but at the same time you know you're preparing for the future. I think there's quite a few good things, we played some youngsters like Musa and Iftikhar performed well. Experience of being with the team for the likes of Usman Qadir can benefit Pakistan in future"

    Bring on the Tests.

The Dark Mickey Arthur era is over, we should become competitive again in the premier formats.

A draw or a victory will be a bonus on this tour. Let's start winning again against the team that whitewashed us at our home - SL!

You sound like a broken record lol.

It's a real shame that your vocabulary is so limited, you don't have the capacity to extend it beyond the "Dark Mickey Arthur".

Having said that, I guess I'm being harsh to expect you to deliver information of an acceptable standard given your worthless PR services for your favourites.

I was about to say the same thing, Misbah just can't seem to see beyond this concept, ie. winning and being competitive along with experience.

So called experienced players have failed to perform in tests in last years. Pakistan down years have put to mucg emphasis on "experience". Regardless of stature in pakistan team players need to perform.

I’ve often wondered the same whenever Hafeez and Shoaib Malik have been selected on the basis of ‘experience’ - it kind of reminds you of that statement by a Pakistani politician some years ago ‘degree degree hoti hai’ regardless of the degree being genuine or fake.

Maybe it’s the same with ‘experience’ — they seem to think experience is experience regardless of it being in losing or winning, or experience of performing or failing when the pressure is on and the team needs you to stand up and deliver — perhaps that’s all irrelevant once you have played for 15 years like Hafeez and Malik, all that counts is ‘experience’

Just watch as soon as Pakistan return home from Aus, there will be calls for Hafeez to return and I’m predicting he will be captain in next years T20 WC to add some ‘experience’.

Batting is fine this time. Haris and Rizwan are really good additions. Haris will be very handy with his spin bowling and Rizwan is as good as a specialist batsman. This will allow Pakistan to include Iftikhar as a spin all-rounder.

My team for the first test:

    1. Azhar
    2. Shan
    3. Haris
    4. Babar
    5. Asad
    6. Rizwan
    7. Iftikhar
    8. Abbass
    9. Musa
    10. Naseem
    11. Shaheen

With such an experienced bowling line-up, it is absolutely essential that Pakistan goes with 4 specialist fast bowlers and use Iftikhar, Haris, and Azhar for spin bowling overs.

The top 7 in theory has played a lot of cricket over the years, but the conditions will be so tough and I fully expect the Aussies to prepare surfaces that will trouble Pakistan's batsmen.

Combination of factors. This is a five test summer where NZ is the main draw. Pakistan are not much of a draw so CA will not feel all the compelled to help them make a competitive series. With test championship points to be had and NZ to play...Australia wont mind if this series ends in 8 days.
I hope we put up a good show, but I dont trust the players or the management to do that.

Even if Pakistan loses both tests by a whopping margin, there shouldn't be any blame on anyone. An Australian tour has always literally been a writeoff for Pakistan since 1999, so even if Pakistan draws a match, it should be considered progress. Misbah and Azhar should have nothing to worry about. This series is a win-win scenario for them.

On the positive side, I'm glad Mickey Arthur is out of the door. Ruined the test team immensely.

Perfect team. I want this team too. I'm not sure about Haris at 3 in Australia, he really is struggling against the short ball which is causing him to just plant his feet and flash at balls wide of off stump. Maybe Asad can come in at 3 and Haris at 5.

Well the 3rd highest score came from Yasir Shah, 5 out of 7 batsmen could not reach 20. In the practice match against Australia A.

    1) of course Misbah loves old and experienced player - nothing new here. During Misbah's time as captain, this infatuation with experience is what led to the destruction of Pakistan cricket

    2) this batting line up is actually not very experienced outside of Azhar and Asad - Babar, Haris, Rizwan, Iftikhar, Shan have a combined total of less than 50 tests between them - that is working in Pakistan's favor

The good thing is Azhar has been moved up to opening position again, which allows us to play a player who can provide services of a 5th bowler. Secondly, Azhar is better suited to opening than no3.
Secondly, would like Babar to move up to no 4 and push the always inconsistent Asad down to 5, or even drop him if he fails in the first test.
4 pacers plus Iftikhar and Haris could be a good combination on Perth
