Some lovely words from Misbah on Naseem

"These young bowlers did not have so much first class experience, but we banked on Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi at the international level which was a tough ask for them, and they responded well"

"Especially Naseem Shah's bowling today, clearly shows to everyone that he is a star in the making"

"Shaheen Shah Afridi has played a bit and he is maturing well but its great to see Naseem Shah bowl so well at such an early part of his career and I am sure he will improve more as he plays in the future; He is a good long term investment for us"

    About home advantage:

"So the crowd roaring as Naseem Shah runs in something that fast-bowlers like and their energy levels get boosted, and even your pace increases by 5-6 kmh in such situations"

he's elite simple as and will take wickets everywhere
people should stop criticising his height as its their manlet status that made the likes of dale steyn or waqar way better bowlers in the subcontinent than say mitchell starc or pat Cummins. Nothing wrong with skiddy pace that beats the bat on slow pitches. you dont need to be 190cm to be elite

Impressive bowling. He is our best pacer alongside Shaheen in Tests even though he's only played 3 Tests and is young.
Pakistani fans criticise just for the sake of it after the first test people were on his case. He will only get better. Top talent.

So, so, so heartening to see Naseem get a 5-fer. Absolutely thrilled for him.

Pakistani fans are too impatient. Just in last inns they were saying he isn't ready for test cricket & bla bla but he's arguably the best bowling prospect tp come out of Pakistan since amir. Now need to manage his workload for god sake don't send him to u-19 WC. He won't again anything from that WC.

Obviously he will still improve with experience. A very good addition for us.

Waqar Younis in his interview with PP

PakPassion.net: Naseem Shah has had a tough introduction to international cricket. What are your thoughts on this exceptional talent?

    Waqar Younis:
Heís a little fragile at the moment which is understandable due to his sad loss. We have to remember that he had a couple of stress-fractures in his back at a young age and he therefore sometimes needs a bit more nurturing and an arm around his shoulder as he does worry about his back at times. So, at the moment we donít want him to be bowling long spells of 7 or 8 overs, we want him bowling short, quick spells and spells which wonít reduce his pace. His pace is crucial for his development and we donít want that to reduce and that is why we are nurturing him carefully. He is another youngster who needs to work on his fitness levels and I am sure once he is fitter and given the skills he possesses, he will trouble a lot of batsmen around the world.

This is his third test match, at the age of 16/17. It's ridiculous to expect him to develop the skills many experienced pacers in Pakistan don't even have right now.

Replace Naseem with someone like Rahat, and you'll get similar results with much lower impact.

We know he is sharp, what he needs to work is his lengths, he needs to bowl a little fuller just outside off stump and if the ball moves slightly, he will take or beat edge. Do that enough times and you will take lots of wickets.

He bowled a couple of quick deliveries and a couple of good bouncers but that was it.

He needs to learn to pitch the ball up and extract movement, exactly what Shaheen did and got 4 wickets.

They are both fine prospects. Shaheen has had a lot more time at international level compared to Naseem, so it's natural to see him having improved a lot. I hope you remember how bad Shaheen was bashed after the WC game against Australia.

Naseem will get there too. He has everything going for him - pace, seam position and bowls a fantastic bouncer. He has a 5-fer in his last test. Be patient.

He shouldnít be playing Test cricket at this age. Just wearing the bowler out so early in his careers he needs to play ODI and T20 for about 5-6 years before they just chuck him into Tests

Pace alone can't get you wickets actually help the batsman wallop you all around the park. Wickets are taken with good line and length, pace is just a bonus. This pathetic obsession of pace has made Pakistan bowling team a laughing stock. First there was Wahab Riaz who was forced on to this team. PCB mafia gave him an extended run while marketing him as a pacer who did nothing thruout his career and Pakistan team suffered.

Fast bowlers like Jeff Thompson, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar used to attack wickets while these hyped marketed bowlers like Wahab.

Next time post his wickets and his strike rate of taking wickets instead of his bowling speed.

The posters here are nothing but hype machines who exaggerate responses when someone gives genuine arguments.

IF someone asks about his line or length or not attacking the wickets, the reply will be expecting him to take 5fer. He is very young no one expects him to take 5fers rofl.

In most of the 90s stats were'nt even discussed and speed radars were'nt there. Waqars, Benjamins and McDermotts used to finish off teams in a day.

The only genuine stat that is important for a fast bowler is how many bowls he takes to take a wicket as he can't bowl 25+ overs like a spinner for the whole day. His spell burst is extremely important for the team while Naseem's spell is producing around 4 an over. Not a great indicator for the future.

Would be interesting to know who actually holds the current record for the youngest man to get a Test match Hatrick. I would be surprised if its anyone below the age of 23.

Either Way, Naseem is for certain the youngest ever bowler to get a Test Match hatrick.

Itís funny to see itís like a morgue here on PAKpassion when a young fast bowler has bowled brilliantly and took a hat trick in the process turning around a test match for his country.

I can only imagine the furor had an Indian teenager done this.

Exactly. That's an unbelievable feat but some people are trying to undermine it.

it happens. it's normal for a fast bowler. the bowling action puts a lot of stress on your ribs especially with side arm action bowlers.

what a talent this kid is. He is outstanding. I will still take shaheen over him though. To me shaheen is still the best under 23 bowler.

Whether he is 19 or 21. To swing the ball and to take wickets from 3 wicket taking deliveries requires top ability.

Loved his celebrappeal, the catch for 3rd wicket and the home crowd going wild.

    Amazing moment.

Hes better than Amir I reckon. Amir was a scrawny kid unable to build muscle...naseem looks naturally muscular and a good athlete. Reckon that's why amir sold himself out perhaps, because he knew he wasnt going to make it

    Naseem Shah post-match:

"There's no problem, I went for an MRI scan yesterday. I pulled a muscle a bit, there's nothing dangerous in the MRI. I will resume bowling in a couple of days.

"However much I thank Allah isn't enough. It's a big achievement for me to take a hat-trick in front of my home crowd in Pakistan. However much I thank the crowd isn't enough. They took out time and came here and supported us and I really enjoyed the experience.

"When Azhar bhai took the review, I thought it might be missing leg-stump but it was hitting. I planned to hit a yorker to the next one and then with the third batsman, I wanted to bowl it close to him.

"I will keep trying and working hard and try to do well for my country. I want to do something that will ensure that I am referred to in a positive light."

Good to hear. Although a rest right now would be ideal for him, as his workload would have been challenged in PSL aswell.

Good to hear that bit about bowling as close to the batsman as possible. Usually as a bowler, you might put yourself under pressure and think - yorker, yorker, yorker. But this lad had a clear frame of mind, and wanted to keep it very simple and delivered at the end of the day. The quality of the batsmen is rubbish, but he can only perform against what's been put infront of him.

    Well-deserved MOTM.

“First of all, I would like to thank the Almighty and say that a hat-trick in front of your own crowd is a matter of great joy for me”

“There is no issue about the injury, I had pulled a muscle and I should recover in a day or two”

"It's great to create the record of being the youngest bowler to take a hat-trick and what made it special was that it was in front of a home crowd. I dedicate the hat-trick to my country"

“My earlier injury was not the same as one I have this time, and this the first time I have a pulled muscle and that meant I couldn’t bowl today, so I decided to give it a rest for 1-2 days before bowling”

“First we were trying to bowl at the same spot but not much was happening but later on the ball (condition) got ready for reverse swing; Once the reverse swing started then the ball was coming in well from around wicket”

“You get reverse swing and movement with the new ball in this pitch – there isn’t that much bounce in the wicket but its fine to bowl on”

“I had in my mind to get a 5fer today but I didn’t want to aggravate my injury further”

“Waqar Younis is constantly working with us, and he tells us if we make a mistake whilst bowling and that is giving us a lot of benefit, and we will try to discuss more on this and make use of his experience”

“I have always believed in hard work and 100% effort, and leave the rest to The Almighty”

“First of all I got a call of congratulations from my family and friends; My father also called, although he doesn’t know much about hat-tricks, so when someone told him that I got the wickets he said, Mubarak”

“When Mahmudallah came I wanted to bring him out a bit of his crease but the captain, to his credit, advised me to bring the ball in and that resulted in the slip catch”

“I didn’t know that I had created a world record but then I fond that out later; the credit goes to Haris Bhai for taking that pressure catch”

“Just like the bowler, the batsman is also under pressure and that was the case with him (Mahmudullah) who edged the ball”

“Abbas Bhai is our senior and he also tells us that when not much is happening off the pitch then stick to one spot; With Shaheen we enjoy our company a lot, on first day when I didn’t get wickets he said next you will get them”

He is bound to have problems with his left side due to his action. In his load up he does stretch that left side a lot. Shouldn't be a huge issue if his workload is well managed for the next 3-4 years. These years will be crucial in his development and they have to make sure he doesn't get any serious injury which could threaten his career.

One fast bowler doing well creates a plethora of youngsters who try to immitate, work hard, and be better at the game following their hero's example. This is what Pakistan really needed and it's a very timely boost as we were fast becoming a total trundler factory. The sheer adulation from the crowd and the joy on the team was an absolute treat to watch. We have missed this game-changing ability from a bowling perspective whether we played minnows or heavy weights and this is a refreshing relief.

The kids got 'it' but now is the time to be super careful. Workload management, education, and civic sense need to be developed. Also needs to have good company so he stays away from the murky world of spot and match fixers and the razmatazz and glamor of PSL and all things negative associated with it. Don't want him to become a T20 bowler or focus on the shorter format of the game for the moment.

If developed over the next few months, the kid could well end up being a potent weapon on away tours and help us build an exciting brand of cricket. It's an exciting time to be a pace fan in Pakistan and lets hope that he becomes something special InshAllah and becomes a cog in the wheel of Pakistan's fast bowling resurgence.

    Azaadi. InshAllah.

Just saw a picture of him with Salman Butt.

Has PCB not learned from the lessons?

Keep the youngster away from that cheat.

He has already ruined a bowling talent, we donít want another.

But we thought that about our players after the fixing scandal of the 90s. They never learn.

Itís the charm of easy money that lures the players into this...

Also they donít realize how much wealth they miss because of doing this kind of stuff.

On the longer run the players can earn more money and respect if they stay on the track.

These losers lack any morals. Salman Butt was the bloody captain, but instead he chose the haraam over halal. Remember Asif and him had played IPL and earnt a decent whack, but the lure of haraam was too much to resist. These people are cursed.
