"Everybody loses in Test cricket, you win & lose some, but the key is how you lose" : Mickey Arthur

    Mickey Arthur on TV

"They just haven't been able to take wickets; they haven't been able to exert any pressure on the Australian team in any way"

"We saw them bat OK in periods at The Gabba; Babar Azam's looked a class above anybody with the bat today [in Pakistan] and they have batted poorly; That happens often after you have been in the field when you have been in the field for 130-140 odd overs and you have tired legs; You are battling against scoreboard pressure, but I expected them to go out there and...the wickets good and the ball hasnt dont that much under the lights"

"Australia are a class bowling unit and we know that, but I expected it to be a lot closer"

"So they could probably have left those and taken a little bit of a leaf certainly from Marnus Labuschagne's book in the way he went about his business"

"You can play those shots and you can get away with those shots on wickets that dont bounce, on wickets that are a little bit slower, but when you get to Australia, you work it out, you know you will face a hard quality attack, you know you are playing international cricket which is the epitome of the game so you need to show a lot of discipline, you need to reel yourself a little bit, you need to afford yourself an opportunity of getting in exactly like Marnus Labuschagne & David Warner did"

"They left balls and they left balls; Abbas bowled that line to them in his opening spell all the time, they forced the bowlers to come to them and when they came to them, they picked them off"

"That's how they scored and that's international cricket"

"Those dismissals are very very poor for international cricket and I have to be honest, and if I was coach sitting in that dressing room I am bitterly disappointed by the execution, gameplan and game awareness of my batsmen"

"I am not knocking Rizwan or Iftikhar in any way but all I saying is that requirements from batsmen at the international level aught to be a lot tighter than that"

"They need to know their game and they need to value their wickets and be totally disciplined with their wickets at ant given time"

"And that wasnt the desperation and attitude you expect from an international batting line-up"

"Not something you expect from a solid top-order batsman [Azhar] - his foot hasnt gone anywhere, and its a bit reminiscent of the 2nd innings at The Gabba"

"This happens a hell of a lot to batting line-ups when they have been in the field a hell of a lot of time; We are having a little bit of a pop at the batting but that is a by product of them having taking only 3 wickets"

"If I am sitting as Misbah-ul-Haq in the Pakistan camp at the moment, I am more worried about our ability to take 20 wickets, I am more worried about the composition of our bowling attack because I know that I have a batting line-up that if we bat first, certainly when we get back in the sub-continent, to put up scores but who will get those 20 wickets?"

"That for me is the criteria because they were smashed around by that Australian line-up and did not look like making any indentation in it"

"Babar Azam is a class act; He could go on tomorrow provided we get 'Ricky Ponting' Yasir Shah to stay with him for a little bit, and if Mohammad Abbas can hang around, Babar can get a hundred"

"You watch Babar and how he is transferring his weight or you look at the positions he is making, its positive, its decisive and its solid and they dont look like breaching his defence either"

"Everybody loses in Test cricket - you win some and you lose some - but the key is how you lose"

"I just hope Pakistan tomorrow, come out fighting, I hope they come out tomorrow and show a passion, they show a desire and hunger to try salvage some pride out of this tour because if they dont, I feel that this Test match could be finished tomorrow"

Does he mean the way we lost against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the UAE? Or the way he got pounded in South Africa?

Mickey is only good for running his mouth these days. If he wasnít a bottle job himself he would still be the coach today.

We replaced him with the worst coach in the world but that doesnít change the fact that Mickey didnít do anything to deserve an extension.

These days Imran knows about cricket as much as someone who has never watched the game.

If his ego wasnít the size of Jupiter, he would take his own advice and not interfere in PCB matters.

You have to be extraordinary incompetent to ruin an already ruined PCB. He has achieved that feat in just a over a year.

Tbh, did not expect to see a victory in tests, the Aussie test team is very strong. Just hammered England in England. The prospect of facing Australia at home is very daunting, more so on a poor travelling side like ours.

But the lack of preparation for this series is suprising. yes the players are at fault in many cases but the management/coaching have come up really short.

The questions arent about the quality of talent, domestic structure, right selections etc..... but with the resources in hand was this the best the team could do? Definitely not!

    1) Why werent the batsmen prepared to face the short stuff?
During the limited oevrs and the tests the batsmen looked lost against the short pitched stuff. Misbah a batsman of such immense experience, how exactly did he prepare the boys?

    2) Zero accuracy by the bowlers. Yes the new recruits where young, but why was the accuracy missing? Why were these boys not prepared to bowl tight and be patient. No control in line or length, what exactly was the team management preparing them for? These were young boys touring for the first time, did the management prepare them? Other than go waxlyrical over them in press conferences!

    3) No plans against any of the opposition batsmen. This was like watching a warm up game, bowlers turned up like animals willing to be slaugthered. They kept bowling short to Finch, the ENTIRE CRICKETING WORLD knows Finch loves the short stuff. Did Misbah and co not get the memo? They have no clue what to do against Warner, Burns, Labuschagne..... fortunately because the top 3 were in epic form the likes of Smith and Wade struggled to get enough time to spend on the crease. We did NZ a favour with SMith being in patchy form. Zero strategy against any batsmen, Why? Fight fire with fire my foot!

    4) What was Yasir Shah's role? Did anyone have an idea what was expected of him in conditions that have little to offer. Was he supposed to control, stop the run flow, attack?! What was the purpose of the spinner? I am not saying the selection was a mistake but did Yasir or the management have an idea as what to aim for? It never looked like it.

    5) Azhar Ali?! The audience had more involvement in the proceedings than the 'kaptaan'. It was cringeworthy to watch his clueless body language as the young bowlers were being slaughtered. Sooo many questions on the captain who, what, why, when?!

We almost won the test match in Australia hadnt Shafiq lost his marbles by the end.

The team had some resolve and showed some fighting spirit during his time. The current situation right now is completely hopeless.

Actually no - PAK should and would have lost that Test by innings almost like the other two games, had Aussies enforced the follow on. Against 429, first innings ended at 142 - even in this game Aussies might bat 2nd time to make up some loss for CA, but you got it, I guess - in reality, PAK has a task to make Warner bat again... still 239 behind with six down.

Donít take it other ways, I am not earning my browny, but what this guy is doing now is almost childish. He wants his revenge on Misbah, at the same time doesnít want to irritate PCB, PAK players and fans - so that his future chance of a return is not closed, hence coming up with contradictory statements.

He is right about what he says. Now we can focus on that, or do the typical subcontinental mentality conspiracy mongering about his motivations

The team showed no resolve and fighting spirit in Tests. They only won 1 Test that they werenít expected to win (England, Lordís) and lost every match that they expected to lose + awful performances against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the UAE.

This of course is in addition to the endless losing streak in ODIs from Jan 2019 to May 2019, where even the law of averages failed to make its magic work.

My dude, if your entire basis of commentary is on what is transcribed on PP, then it’s inadequate. He had a whole bunch of ifs and buts about what it would take to win. Lastly, it’s a tv show where you need more viewers to watch the game. Going out there and waving the white flag is not what analysts are hired to do.

I do know a little about mass communication & marketing, trust me. But, do you think my comments were based on just today - he has been doing this for last two years and now trying to give an impression that he has lots of clue about PAK’s problems. This guy lost in SAF 0-3 in side 9 days against a team that’ll be massacred by Aussies now.

Well the guy's hardly going to blast the players he was working with only a few months ago and developed a personal relationship with.

If Mickey said the team was useless and that Misbah needs to drop Player X and Player Y - then people would attack him for being bitter, having an axe to grind etc.

Yes, it’s a no win situation- hence, best way for him to describe things as it is, being politically correct. Tough job, but possible - now, he has to fall back almost in every step.

Again, what he says in his current role is more important than what he did in his past. If you disagree with the analysis you should say so. For example I disagree with his analysis because he doesn’t bring in how the two senior batsmen in the team have been majorly responsible for Pakistan’s test results for the last two years.

Mickey should never have been sacked. He makes sense
People can say what they want but our odi team made stwps to the future , our T20s were great, and he was developing the structure around the test team overseas.

Exactly. Mickey should'nt have been removed in the first place.

You see a weak and pathetic top and middle order which existed in Mickey's tenure also thanks to chief selector Inzamam, but the way the few players at the top are playing shows there is no coaching or planning being done by Misbah.

Shan Masood is looking like a joke today, he is blocking everything and demoralizing himself and his partner at the non-strikers end.
Yasir Shah today proved he has more guts then our meek batting lineup combined, shameless individuals who play for themselves now have an amateur former player as coach who is letting them play foolish and suicidal shots.
