What should Pakistan's squad be for the 2020 T20 World Cup?
The T20 world cup is only a year away and our team is looking really, really bad.
We won only 1 match in 2019.
What should our squad be for the 2020 T20 world cup?
I'm still confused why Rizwan was in our T20i squad.
Why were Ahmad Shahzad and Umar Akmal in our T20i squad for the series against Sri Lanka?
I believe if Sharjeel performs well in the PSL he should play against SA in March. The way he played in Aus 2/3 years ago was amazing. He's the opener we need. But I'm not sure if he still has it in him or not.

Let's set some ground rules.
Babar has to open
Shadab has to play as does a SLA
You have to have 6 proper bowling options
There must be 1 offspinner in the squad.
Your number 5 and 6 need to be 6 hitters and your number 8 has to be able to bat for 5 overs if needed
Wicket keeper can not be rizwan
Sharjeel
Babar
Hussain Talat/Malik
Umer Akmal
Asif Ali
Iftikhar
Imad
Shadab
Amir
Shaheen
Haris

Don't think this is accurate.
When Sharjeel was playing, he was arguably our most threatening batsman.
Don't forget that he scored at an average of 50 against Aus in Aus with a strike rate of over 110 in the 5 match ODI series
He even scored a century in the PSL before he was banned.
He was hyped up immensely. Unlike Fakhar, who's nowhere to be seen now.

So Fakhar was better than Rohit Sharma as per many PPers an year back and now he is not even as good as Sharjeel?
Fakhar and Sharjeel are both very similar - flawed hitters, aka tulleybaaz. Won't survive for long.
Not to forget, Sharjeel is a convicted spot-fixer and has been shamelessly welcomed back with gold category contracts and what not..at 30 years + age....no wonder your team is in such a mess every now and then.Last edited by BreadPakoda; 8th December 2019 at 23:18.

After seeing the latest debacle in Australia. I dont think our new talent has the experience to play in Australian conditions barring a few. So considering this WC T20 happening in Australia, we have to give more inclusion with seniors and a few youngsters but only a few. Here is my ideal 15 for the WC T20 in the playing order.
1. Sherjeel Khan
2. Kamran Akmal (wk)
3. Babar Azam (C)
4. Mohammed Hafeez
5. Shoaib Malik
6. Khushdil Shah
7. Amir Yamin

All the people who are endorsing Sharjeel Khan, are you not ashamed of yourself? Are you not promoting corruption?
Yes I agree that I have selected M Amir, because he is already playing and we cannot undo what has already been done. But at least let us not repeat the mistake.
The reason why Pakistan cricket system is still corrupted is because its fans promotes people like Amir and Sharjeel.

No matter which team Pakistan puts out, they will be dumped out very soon in the tournament.
Big grounds with no power hitter, no specialist spinner that can actually turn the ball, horrible fielding all combines into a humiliation that's awaited.
If you only want to pick a team for the world cup, then the likes of Kamran Akmal and Hafeez are unfortunately a must.

Should be
Babar Azam C
Ahmed Shehzad VC
Umar Amin
Kamran Akmal WK
Hussain Talat
Shoaib Malik
Ammad Butt
Zafar Gohar
Shadab Khan
Wahab Riaz
M Amir
Bench
Hassan Ali
Khusdil Shah
Ali Imran
Shaheen Adridi
Babar alone is not ready to lead in the world cup, Ahmed Shehzad and Kamran should provide support. People will thrash Malik in the squad and playing 11 but he is a good T20 player, not a good ODI. This format justifies his selection, decent and reliable finisher as well. Depending on the pitch you can rotate a healthy Hassan Ali in the lineup with Zafar Gohar.

There is no hope under Misbah (hopefuly, he won't survive that long). We will surely exit in first round but no harm in khyali pulao.
We need batsmen who are strong on the backfoot and can play cuts and pulls on hard bouncy Australian tracks. We should get rid of Rizwan asap. Khushdil will be useless in Australia.
1) Sharjeel Khan (He MUST play in Australia)
2) Babar Azam
3) Zeeshan Malik (He is not even in PSLso we will be without our best batsman after Babar)
4) Rohail Nazir(I didn't used to rate him before but he is growing on me)
5) Iftikhar Ahmed
6) Umar Akmal (you can't be in Australia/SA without him)
7) Zafar Gohar (His control on flight and loop will be far more useful in big Australian grounds as
compared to Shadab, not to mention his superior powerhitting capability)
8) Imad/Umer Khan (depends upon their form, alternatives, opposition etc)
9) Harris Rauf (His batting stance is decent, can play big shots like Wahab)
10) Shaheen
11) Amir/Nasim
14) Ammad/Shadab
15) Zeeshan Ashraf

Zeeshan Malik
All bases covered. Explosive opener and one of the worlds best batsmen. Good middle order including power hitters, long tail, good spin bowling options, genuine pace bowling all rounders, 2 good young express seamers and a good bench. This is the squad we should take imo and very realistic but it won’t happen. Expect your standard experienced failures and hacks to be retained while the fraud Misbah is in charge.

Naseem should be picked if he does well in PSL. Naseemand Shaheen must only be used for t20i world cups and no bilateral. They must play tests and Odis only. Even in Odis they should be well rested. Learn from how the Aussie manage their premier and young bowlers.

Your Squad For the T20 World Cup in Australia
Title says it all.
Which 15 men are you taking?
Mine are:
Sharjeel(most destructive in PAK rn. Pace and bounce will suit him)
Babar(no explanation needed)
Fakhar(needed as number 3 batsman. No other number 3. When he comes off, PAK generally win)
Shoaib Malik(the guy has been in unbelievable domestic form of late, did brilliantly in it20 since comeback)
Umar Akmal(no other option as wicket keeper batsman who can score at a quick rate. NO Rizwan or Sarf pls)
Iftikhar Ahmed(proved himself in Australia t20's)
Shadab Khan(leggy needed)
Amad Butt( fast bowling all-rounder needed. He has one of the best bowling strike rates in t20 history)
Amir(economical and steps up in tournaments)
Shaheen(best upcoming paceman from PAK)
Haris Rauf(new ball bowler. Swings it with new ball, and yorkers at death)
BENCH
Imad Wasim(cover for Shadab)
Asif Ali(I don't rate him, but we need someone who can hit big in the middle overs)
Hasan Ali(fitness permitting. I would take him over the likes of Hasnain)
Saif Badar/Khushdil Shah(depends on which one of these two perform in PSL)
Who would you take?

My World T20 Squad 2020
First XI: Babar Azam (C), Sharjeel Khan, Kamran Akmal (W), Iftikhar Ahmed, Umar Akmal, Asif Ali, Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Afridi. Bench: Fakhar Zaman, Shoaib Malik, Haris and the best pace bowler from PSL 2020 out of the rest. I think Babar, Iftikhar, Imad, Shadab and Amir are obvious picks so will just explain the rest. Sharjeel, Fakhar, Umar and Asif are all proven explosive players on the big stage so should be given an extended opportunity, Kamran is our best batsman out of the keeping options and could move up to open if necessary. Shoaib is in good T20 form and would perform knowing it would be an international finale for him. Hasan is still the best T20 wicket taker Pakistan have statistically and Shaheen has developed quickly this year. Pakistan have struggled with containing runs at the death so I think Haris Rauf's excellent death would be an asset and we know he can do it under pressure. If there wasn't an obvious choice for another pace bowler on the bench, I'd be looking at one of Aamer Yamin, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Tanvir, Shinwari, Amad Butt or maybe Faheem to fill the last spot.

Rohail Nazir is a good young keeper batsman, created impact in emerging cup as well and also the captain of U19 team though I doubt he will be considered anytime soon unless he does something really impactful in PSL. Bismillah Khan is in mid 20s but has some shots however technically not that good, Umar Siddiq is another one in mid 20s but he is not a great keeper. So these are the only other options in T20s.
Regarding Hasan, even when he was out of form in ODIs he was touching mid 140s on quite a few occasions and has done pretty decently in T20s despite his horrible ODI form. So if he is fit and shows some form he will most likely be in the squad, Haris should also get a nod depending upon how he fares in PSL and rest of BBL. Then Pak management can select them in the playing XI on the form.

Haris has basically confirmed his spot.
In sha Allah he is the only Haris to make the squad.
Secondly, hope he remains fit.
Amad Butt should also be taken!

The only confirmed spot in batting is Babar and Iftikhar. Will be interesting to see if Misbah turns to Malik, Hafeez, and Kamran for the remaining spots. Other contender would be
Opener- Sharjeel, Fakhar, Rizwan Hussain
One-Down: U.Akmal, U.Amin, M. Rizwan
2 and 3 : H.Talat, Khushdil, Zeeshan Ashraf, Asif Ali
Fast-bowling allrounder spot will either be Fahim and Ammad. Unforunately, both play for the same team in PSL. So one of them will probably not get a lot of chances.
If Shadab gets back in form, he takes the spinner spot.
Aamir, Wahab, Shaheen have confirmed places. So the only place for a pacer is on the bench. One between Rauf, Hasnain , and Naseem should get it.

Hopefully a decent middle order bat emerges in the PSL because the likes of Iftikhar are trash.

The best Pakistan XI for T20 matches in Australia
Which is the best Pakistan XI in T20 cricket to send to Australia? The team needs skillful pacers, confident spinners and a lot of power in the batting to succeed in Australia.
This team gets my vote:
Babar Azam (C)
Sharjeel Khan / Fakhar Zaman
Kamran Akmal (W)
Shoaib Malik
Iftikhar Ahmed
Umar Akmal
Imad Wasim
Shadab Khan
Mohammad Amir
Shaheen Afridi
Haris Rauf
(Bench would be Sharjeel / Fakhar, Hafeez, Wahab and the best wicket-taker not already selected from PSL, no matter the age, stature or speed.)

Good team, except Malik and Wahab. Imad will also be thrashed in AUS with his darting. They do not belong in the squad, absolutely not in AUS.
It's quite clear that we do not have any hard hitters except Kami and Umar Akmal. Some posters here will ridicule you for naming them, but the reality is there's nobody better who can smash the pacers.
Hafeez with his clean striking is also badly needed. Can put him in place of Imad.

My playing XI:
1. Babar Azam
2. Ashan Ali
3. Muhammed Hafeez
4. Khushdil Shah
5. Umar Amin
6. Imad Wasim
7. Muhammad Rizwan/Umar Siddiq
8. Ammad Butt/Amer Yamin
9. Haris Rauf
10. Shaheen Shah Afridi
11. Naseem Shah (reckon he’ll come good with the pace he bowls)
I reckon both malik and hafeez will fail in Australia, should’ve gone for more long term investments. Perhaps giving Anwar ali another go might be a way to go as well, can hit the ball a long way when he needs to.

Thank you. I put Hafeez in because he ain’t going no where. And sometimes he does play the knock we need even in Australia.
While Malik will never score in Australia or against a team with actual pace bowlers. Kamran is subject to PSL performance and so is Sarfraz. We need fire power in the middle order who can play pace Nd Umar is the only man.

Need guys who can play shots against pace, it's Australia. Which is why willing to take risk on Kamran and Umar akmal with Fakhar is such bad form and struggling to think of other names.
Malik not sure. In Asia, I'd pick him, in Aus I don't know whether he'd do well. But there's few other good options that come to mind. You could replace him for Hafeez but he'll probably fail too. I don't think we have anyone who will succeed here.
Thought about wicketkeeper options, and honestly sarfraz is the strongest. Might be an unpopular choice but I thought about it for some time. Shouldn't have been removed from the LOI sides, at least in T20s. Averaged 37, SR 94 in 2019 for ODIs. Averaged 32, Sr 145 in 2018 in T20s (as only played 4 matches in 2019). Has performed in PSL. It's hard to have faith in Rizwan when he's sitting at a 17 average with 97 SR. If we brought Kamran back for opening, I would want him to focus solely on batting, not behind the stumps again.
