And calling a 22 year old one of the worst players you have seen is not a very intelligent comment to make. Not every player develops the same way. Some develop after more experience.
Lol I even said it on this post.

It is not an ATG knock.

It is one of the GOAT knocks. A test series win in Australia with Smith, Cummins, Hazelwood, Marnus, Lyon, Warner and Starc playing.

You should create a thread on this so that we can celebrate the next humiliation when he plays a chance less inning

Btw, Ben Stokes Headingley wasn't chamceless either.

Itís a pretty safe policy to assume every Indian, Aussie, or English cricketer will succeed (especially Indian batsmen) and assume Pakistani youngsters will fail.

Most runs by Indian wicketkeeper in Australia:

Rishabh Pant - 624 in 12 inns at avg 62.4

Syed Kirmani - 471 runs in 17 inns at avg 29.43

MS Dhoni - 311 runs in 18 inns at avg 19.43

He has already obliterated the record of all our wicket keepers and had a better test career than all of them

Not picking him for the home series vs South Africa in 2019 is one of the dumbest decisions India took over the past 5-6 years.

Saha should have never played a Test over him in any conditions after his tons in England and Australia in 2018.

One full home season is all he needs to brush up his keeping.

Yes and it's not like Pant is a hopeless keeper. His keeping is improving steadily. Took some nice ones in this test for example.

He has his follies, bad areas that needs improvement.

Nonetheless he gives his all. In Aus both occassions/series he has played well against short pitch and pace, spin. Need to show this in other SENA nations where there is moving balls / India (has a tag that he cannot keep to spin). But so far repaid BCCI faith in him.

Pant is a superstar and here to stay! He's still not a finished product but has under his belt a solid match winning 4th inning knock, which would give him a different level confidence level. Infact the way he is going, there's a high chance that he would become a full time batsman at some stage.

After the twin knocks that he has played in last 10 days, I think he can afford to play as specialist bat. The pressure would have been there if he hadn't played knocks of that callibre. But I think he will continue as keeper bat because there is no extra place for keeper.

A lot has been said and written about India's 23-year-old Rishabh Pant ever since he failed to make the most of his regular chances post MS Dhoni's sabbatical after the 2019 World Cup. As he was touted to be Dhoni's successor across formats, the left-hander slowly and steadily lost the plot and was removed from the limited-overs side, following KL Rahul's growth behind the stumps and fitness issues.

While Pant has remained a part of the Test side, with centuries in England and Australia, his career-defining innings still eluded him when he came out in the middle during India's 328-run chase in the fourth and final Test versus Australia at The Gabba, Brisbane on Tuesday (January 19).

Pant, who is used as a keeper-batsman more often during overseas assignments, made a strong case for himself for all formats, and in any conditions, as he displayed his talent fully courtesy his 83 not out. Thus, it led India to their second straight Test series win on Australian soil (2-1) with a thrilling 3-wicket win in the final Test.

Pant came out to bat, after a strong foundation provided by Shubman Gill (91), with the score 167-3 and remained unbeaten on 83, with 9 fours and 1 six. He timed his chase to perfection and remained undeterred despite Cheteshwar Pujara's fall (56).

In the recent edition of the Star Sports show Cricket Connected, VVS Laxman, thus, lavished praise on Pant and stated, "We all knew he had the calibre to win matches, he had all strokes in the book and at the same time he had the ability to hit boundaries and sixes at will of good deliveries. But what he showed at Gabba was just exemplary batting under pressure."

He further opined, "Rishabh Pant's knock at Gabba can become a career-defining innings for him. He was given a promotion and would have been sent with a message to go and play the big shots and to along with the asking run rate. But he went in and batted with maturity, the hurry was not at all seen.

"The way Nathan Lyon was bowling outside the off-stump and forcing him to play a false shot but he played with patience and whenever he got a chance, he took advantage of that."

Laxman concluded by saying, "He played high percentage shots and the good thing is that we generally talk that a young player should win the match and not only make a match, and he did that."

After the series, Pant once again made it clear that he doesn't want to be the next MS Dhoni, but is willing to make an identity of his own in the near future. The left-hander returned as the third-highest run-getter in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 and Ajinkya Rahane-led India's most successful batsman with 274 runs at 68.50 with 2 fifties.

He has been pretty humble till now after that knock, hopefully we pick him up for English series to improve his keeping against spin, his impact in batting helps us a lot but almost seems Indian management will make him modern day Mohinder amarnath

You'll just have to wait for the next edition of IPL, when Samson comes up with his one special knock of the year and everyone goes gaga over this special 25 year old youngster.

Depends on which team these fans wanted Samson in. If it's LOI then that wicketkeeper slot is wide open. If it's test then Pant has to improve his wicketkeeping and catching.

Also true. Punctuated with comparisons to Rohit, perceived elegance, and notes on how he has that extra 2 seconds for his shots.

The only thing pant needs to improve is wicketkeeping against spinners. But its quite obvious now that the wicketkeeper spot in tests has been sealed.

In Lois too he will be a regular member, in the coming years. He is a class above all the other contenders.

in LOIs Rahul is doing a fine job.I want Pant to concentrate on Tests for now

Once he matures he can always play in LOIs

Why can't Gill play in LOI's? Dhawan won't play in the next ODI world cup. He is 35. We need at least 2 backup openers.

We need someone who can accelerate from word go. Maybe Aggarwal or even Shaw. They are suited for LOIs

Correct. Gill needs to be incorporated in ODI squad immediately. Dhawan and Rohit both are injury prone in recent times, need to have Mayank, Pamt and Gill groomed and ready. Rahul is doing pretty ok in middle in ODI, hence won't change that. Instead Gill , Mayank and Pant should be rotated in the top 3 to keep them ready.

For 2023 I am looking at something like -

    Rohit
    Pant
    Gill
    Kohli
    Rahul
    Hardik
    Jadeja
    Sundar
    Bumrah
    10th bowler
    11th bowler

Pant can keep the RR going in the initial overs letting Rohit settle down
Gill and Kohli will keep the middle overs going
Rahul and Hardik can smash around in the end overs.
Jadeja and Sundar can support as well
Mayank as backup opener. He can even play at 3 if needed and can be extremely effective against spinners
Dhawan(if still performing ) and Iyer can be in the squad with WC in India depending on the squad limit.
Expecting Kartik Tyagi and Ravi Bishnoi to be in contention by then.

There are some talented young players and if groomed properly they should be able to establish them. Hopefully we also able to identify next players in pipeline as well in case this squad struggles

Pants has massive potential with the bat. Almost Gilly level. It is his keeping which will pull him little down compared to Gilly but then Gilly debuted in tests at age of 28. Pants is 23.

Samson is yet to take his FC average in 40s. Almost every Ramji team has at least one batsman averaging in 50s and another couple Averaging in 40s. Pant in his first season smashed 972 runs @81 and at a SR of 107. Sanju has not been able to produce such performance till now.

Sanju is good on the eyes but he is talented in only Pakistani definition of talent. He can time the ball nicely on the up and has played some good t20 innings. That's it. We are still waiting for him to convert this into a real good domestic season. A thousand runs for Kerala.

Pant was always level above when he played Ranji. The fear his batting commands domestically is the reason he is given chance after chance internationally.

Pant smacked a couple of triple centuries in one season.
Samson just scores pretty looking 30 and 40s and he has been given ample chances.
He needs to go big and score like 1000 runs a season to be seriously considered.

People who still doubt Pant, I can only pity their lack of eye for talent. We are watching a Gilchrist clone, in fact can even be better since he is so young. And when did Gilly come remotely close to doing what Pant did in consecutive tests a few days back? He is a good keeper against pace, fans just like to moan, find faults. Only against high quality spinners like Ashwin and Jadeja does Pant have issues. He is working hard on his keeping and recently made it clear that he wants to be the best keeper in the world, I am sure he will achieve his goals and in a few years time his name will be a certainty when we talk about ATG keepers.

Absolutely surprising stats, I think this is how one way we should measure stats of GOAT teams, to see how many 4th innings the middle order played lol @Buffet
