"It’s beyond me why they dropped Amir from the T20I squad for the Bangladesh series" : Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram on Karachi Kings related matters:

“What we have seen is that those teams win (in PSL) who have a strong bowling line-up”

“We have Mohammad Amir, Chris Jordan, Usama Mir, Liam Plunkett and young Umer Khan; We have variation; We were lacking in death bowling so Jordan and Amir will share the last few overs”

“Our captain, Imad Wasim is an all-rounder and also Iftikhar Ahmed can bowl a few overs, and we have Rizwan as ‘keeper so we have a good enough side”

“Let me be frank and say that our fielding was below standard, I looked at the stats recently and it shows that we were highest in dropped catches, lowest in saving runs and we need to improve that; The presence of Dean Jones will make a big difference in this matter”

“One of the top names in international T20 cricket, Alex Hales is there then we have Babar Azam who is the number one batsman in T20Is, then we picked up Sharjeel Khan so that will be exciting; He is a Karachi boy and will be playing for Karachi”

“Its exciting times for PSL as its being played in Pakistan”

“He’s a natural stroke-player and the instructions given to him will be that he has to play his natural game; We are not going to change anyone’s style of play”

“That mindset in T20 of when you have hit a four, take a single next ball is gone, now its like if you have hit a four, the go for a six next ball”

“Our fielding will improve with the arrival of English players, Babar is a safe fielder as is Iftikhar and Amir”

“We have a good combination – we have Babar, Sharjeel, Hales, Delport, Iftikhar and then Imad or Rizwan after that; I hope we have good pitches to play on; By good pitches I don’t mean just shave grass off it and say its good; What I mean is that the ball comes on nicely onto the bat and we don’t have 120-140 scores being chased with difficulty; They should 160 type pitches so people enjoy watching it and also bowlers get to use their skills nicely”

“As someone who has been connected with cricket, and as a commentator I would say that it’s beyond me why they dropped Mohammad Amir from the T20I squad (for Bangladesh series)”

“If what people on Social Media are saying about Amir that he didn’t play Test cricket, so he was dropped then that’s wrong”

“If he doesn’t want to play Test cricket, then that’s the end of it but he should not be dropped from the T20I team”

“If you talk about going by present form and we picked Haris Rauf because he did well in BBL; In same way Amir performed well in the BPL taking 6 wickets in one game”

“So it didn’t make sense to drop him; Our young bowlers have talent but in the World Cup (T20) you will need experience also”

“With me being around (at practice), the players have a lot of questions for me; This includes the young fast-bowlers as well as the experienced ones – I am there to speak to them, talk to them”

“I cant change actions of bowlers in one month as that takes more time; I am there to tell them about the mental aspects, to show them how to read the batsman, what to bowl when he is playing specific types of shots- so these are the small things that I keep on telling them”

“Iftikhar Ahmed is made for T20s, he is a safe fielder”

“I feel Umer Khan has a lot of cricketing sense for a young guy; he knows what to bowl to which batsman; He doesn’t feel flustered by the big stage, but enjoys the experience”

“What I noted from the previous PSL that bigger the batsman, the more Umer wanted to bowl to him which is a good sign”

“The whole world and world cricket now knows about Babar Azam, everybody is raving about his technique, he’s elegant and consistent, and the most important thing for me is that he is hungry and never satisfied with his performances”

“What I like about Deano is that he’s always involved as a coach; Its not that he shows up in PSL and then disappears for the next 11 months; He’s always in touch with the players, and he knows about Pakistan cricket”

“If we had brought in a new coach, he would have struggled to name players from his own team; Dean Jones will make a major impact on Karachi Kings”

“Babar Azam is Pakistan T20I team captain and he will eventually get his turn (in Karachi)”

“He needs to be a good vice captain and learn how to skipper a side and this will be useful for him in his role as Pakistan captain also”

You can hate on Amir but it's harsh to drop him,You need him at Worldt20,he is the bowler who will keep it tight from one end,Shaheen is young,Haris is raw and you need some experience bowler to lead the attack.

Wasim's analysis is as clueless and low quality as his commentary.

Amir needs to stay out of the team as we're trying new and young bowlers. It's giving us rewards. We can't be dependent on Amir.

As for World T20, he most likely will be there. So, chill.

He was just rested, so we can try Harris Rauf. I mean Bangladesh is not the toughest opposition. Amir most likely be back for South Africa T20s and the World Cup. Mohd Amir, Shaheen Shan Afridi and Harris Rauf will make a fantastic T20 Pace attack.

Wasim flip flops frequently. In Australia he was admonishing Amir for deserting Pakistan in test cricket and stated he would have refused to give him a central contract. Why criticize the PCB for dropping him now? His form has been horrendous for a while.

Isn't Wasim working for KHI Kings now?

If so, that explains why he's campaigning for Amir to be selected. Amir plays for KK.

Imad Wasim and Wasim Akram are going to ruin KK - not to say it isn't already one of the worst teams. Going to go down even further.

I remember Wasim clearly was very annoyed back in Nov and clearly said that Amir should not be given a central contract by the PCB since he retired from tests a month ago. And that tests are difficult so Amir thought he'd retire and make some easy money by playing leagues around the world and this is a poor decision by him considering this country has invested so much in him and yadi yadi yada.

Now that Psl is nearing and Wasim has a contract with KK, let's make some amends. Why does nobody question these people on their blatant hypocrisy.

I don't think we need to drop Amir from T20s if he's retired from test cricket. Wasim's comments about not offering him a central contract were harsh prior - unless playing test cricket is a huge part of having a central contract.

As other posters said though, there is no way we won't take Amir to WT20 - he's one of the few automatic selections in that format. I would've taken him to Bangladesh as well though - but I'm sure we'll be fine without him.

Have the players going forward, just need coaching&professionalism! #1 priority: fielding

Just remember - Amir wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire in test cricket. In fact even in ODIs he was absolutely horrible prior to the WC. The one format where he's really good consistently though is T20s... so why wouldn't we use him there if he wishes to play T20s and is available for selection?

PCB did the right thing by showing a young guy with no major injury should not be retiring from test cricket simple as that
But he should come back for world cup tho other than that PCB did the right thing 💯%

Retirement from tests is not at all the only reason. He was ordinary against Srl and Aus as he is supposed to be a senior bowler who is also now a white ball specialist and needs to perform accordingly. In the mean time Pak wanted to try new faces. It was good to see Rauf debuting, Hasnain getting more games and Amad Butt getting a spot in the squad.

Who would be dropped for Amir though?

Haris is a definite lock for the squad since he performed in the BBL and that’s where the world cup is going to be. That’s exactly why they brought him in, and want someone who has familiarity with the bowling conditions clearly. That means Amir and Rauf are two pacers, leaving room for one more who could either be Shaheen or Hasnain depending on who performs in the PSL and who they feel can perform in Aus (Shaheen more likely in both regards, but especially given his height pace intelligence and swing in Aus). This would likely mean that Hasnain is dropped for Amir. Is that okay?

    (1) Assuming we go with two spinners, that gives us:

    Imad
    Shadab
    Amir
    Rauf
    Shaheen

Bench: Hasnain, Amad, Musa (will be on the bench because of Misbah even though he doesn’t deserve to be)

    (2) If we go with one spinner, we have:
    Imad
    Amir
    Rauf
    Shaheen
    Hasnain

    Bench: Shadab, Amad, Musa

    (3) Without Amir, we have:
    Imad
    Shadab
    Shaheen
    Rauf
    Hasnain

Personally I’m leaning towards option (1)

To be honest when is the last time Amir actually gave a match winning performance. The drop was well needed, we've got lots of fast bowlers who can be eligible replacements in Rauf, Shaheen and we can choose from Ruman Raees/Naseem Shah/Sohail Tanvir etc. My vote for third seamer in Australia is Naseem Shah.

Champions trophy was won with collective team performance, Hassan Ali & Fakhar were the main contributors he did turn it on in the final but had a big score on board which gave him confidence & the Indians did choak too , wonderful World Cup lmao it’s only wonderful if you win it..

I don't see any flip flop here. He was against Amir retiring for test cricket and still is. He again stated that downgrading his central contract status is the correct decision. However, he never said that Amir should be dropped from T20s as well.

This was a vindictive decision by the PCB/team management. They acted like a mohallay ki team instead of a professional unit. Amir easily makes his place in the T20 side and should have been selected.

It is not Misbah's job to "punish" anyone. And what was Amir's crime to begin with that needed punishing ?

Many players all over the world are retiring from red ball cricket to become white ball specialists. I don't agree with Amir's decision but he knows his physical limits better than anyone and his retirement from Test cricket was in the works for over a year. It was no shock when the news broke in July so Misbah and Waqar had plenty of time to identify replacements.

Yeah alright you’d be begging for his selection for the World Cup. He’s the one who turns up for the big games.

Amir won us the CT17 with his spell removing the best top three in the world. The rest ate of his hard work. A pitch as flat as that the top three would of knocked it off.

But sure punish Amir and cry, even though as an athlete he has a right to choose what format he plays and how long. Not you. It’s him and his family.

All in all yes a player can decide when he wishes to retire as it's up to them. PCB are to blame as they didn't draw up or think of a contingency plan in the event both wahab and amir left. This is why i constantly nag that the team be mixed up and new players given chances in an effort to find your absolute best combo.

However, i think it was the smug tweets of Amir that really did grind my gears post test retirement. Fact is that there are currently better bowlers than Amir out there that can do better and also bowl at a better pace, all Amir is is just a name and nothing else.

Wasim has a soft corner for Amir.

He is right though, Amir makes the T20 side on merit. Dont think Amir would care though, he was in cricket for the money all the way. He can mint easy money by playing T20 leagues world wide.

Amir's experience and quality is a must at the T20 world cup. Simple as that.

They can build a nice attack around Amir, Shaheen, Rauf/Hasnain.

It's good both Amir and Wahab were dropped so they can try other bowlers to give themselves other looks and combinations that may work.

You don't want to keep trying the same players over and over again and if a couple of them happen to get hurt before the World Cup, then you are stuck clueless without knowing what your options are.

Amir's track record in Australia is pretty poor as well so he might be a bad option anyways.
