    Any Assassin's Creed Fan?

I started playing Assassin's Creed last year and I got very addicted. I have already finished playing 8 out of 11 AC games.

    I finished these games:

    Assassin's Creed II
    Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
    Assassin's Creed: Revelations
    Assassin's Creed III
    Assassin's Creed: Rogue
    Assassin's Creed: Black Flag
    Assassin's Creed: Unity
    Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

I also played Origins and Odyssey but I didn't finish those. I didn't quite like Odyssey as it didn't feel like AC game to me. Only AC game I didn't play was the first one (Assassin's Creed I).

My favorite assassin was Ezio. I think he really defined what AC is about. Edward Kenway was pretty good too.

    Any AC fan here?

It stopped being Assassin's Creed after 3, after which Ubisoft started pumping them out like COD. Used to be my favorite series.

I kind of agree with you although I managed to tolerate it until Syndicate. I stopped liking it after Syndicate.

Odyssey was a great game but it was not an AC game in my book. AC lost the identity completely and I hope Ubisoft will go back to what AC was.

Originally the Desmond saga was going to have a time travel story interconnecting the three Assassins (Altair, Desmond, Ezio) but the director was fired and they opted for a yearly release cycle, that's when I stopped caring.

Odyssey is a good action RPG, but the bar was set too high after the Witcher 3's release.

I see. Why did director get fired? The first few games were gold.

It was stupid to kill off Desmond.

Not sure, most probably because Ubisoft wanted it to be a yearly release, which wasn't possible with the original story. There's a video on youtube of the VA for Desmond talking about it, how Desmond would go back in time and meet Altair and Ezio to become the ultimate Assassin (remember the bleeding effect subplot).

The series had potential, unfortunately also a greedy publisher behind it.

I see. Ubisoft got a bit too greedy. Any series that has yearly release is bound to lose quality soon.

They should take 2-3 years break and come up with something new and interesting (without losing original AC touch).

Yup! Have Plats for all AC games.

Story-wise and location wise, AC2 was great, but for some reason AC3 was my personal favourite. Just wandering in the wilderness was bliss!

Origin and Odyssey are ok, but in reality weak versions of RPGs with the soul of AC all but lost. I was expecting Origin to provide a deep dive into the birth of the creed, and how the leap of faith/eagle vision come into play etc, but no, in true Hollywood style, what was meant to be a prequel, turned out to be a money spinner. Worse till, no homestead equivalent in Origins/Odyssey. To make matters worse, the entire world in the latest 2 editions is just copy and paste. Considering the size of the worlds, you'd think Ubisoft would spend some time on unique surroundings! Proving bigger is not always better! The result, there is no memorable location, IMO, in Origins or Odyssey.

Which is why I am waiting for Watch Dogs 3!

Here is my list of favorite assassins (from most favorite to least favorite):

    1. Ezio (king of all assassins; nobody comes close).
    2. Altair.
    3. Edward Kenway.
    4. Patric Shay Cormac (I know he became Templar but he was not a bad assassin earlier).
    5. Arno.
    6. Bayak.
    7. Jacob Frye.
    8. Connor.
    9. Evie Frye.

I don't consider Alexios and Kassandra as assassins because Odyssey didn't have a proper assassin story.

I absolutely loved the third one and still do till this day. I consider it as one of the best games I have played on my PS3. I got kind of bored of the 3rd and somewhat hated it. After that I tired my hands at Revelations and played about an hour of it until I decided that the love of Assassins creed had ended. Yet I still feel the inkling of playing some of the well reviewed ones such as Black Flag, Origins and Odyssey.

Black Flag is tolerable. It is basically a pirate-themed game but it can still be called an AC game.

Origins is not exactly Assassin vs Templar but it is close.

Odyssey is completely alien. I don't know what to call it. I don't recommend this game.

I've got to a point where I don't really desire playing any AC games anymore. I regard the 2nd one as one of the best VG's there is. But with so many games out there to play, I feel like AC isn't as appeal-able as it use to be.

You are correct. AC lost the edge. Only die hard fans play it nowadays. I hope Ubisoft will do something about it.

With Watch Dogs Legion seeming to get some traction, it seems like Ubisoft could be giving some newer IP's as well as some different games more focus.

These are my AC games ratings (out of 5):

    Assassin's Creed I

This is the first AC game. I didn't play this one so I can't rate it. I heard good things about it though.

    Assassin's Creed II (5/5)

This is the second one. I give it 5 out of 5. Story was really good. This is the game that describes Ezio's early life as an Assassin. It was based in beautiful Italy and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (5/5)

This is the game that really developed Ezio's character. Ezio became Master Assassin during this game. One of the best games of AC for me. I give it 5 out of 5. This was also based in beautiful Italy like AC 2.

This is the game where Desmond kills Lucy (who was acting as a double agent).

    Assassin's Creed: Revelations (5/5)

This was a fantastic game. Ezio found Altair's corpse and it was just a fantastic scene. This was also the last time we have seen Ezio in an AC game. This game featured some new things like Hook Blade, Zip Lining, air combat etc.

I give it 5 out of 5. This game was a bit short and they could've made it longer.

    Assassin's Creed 3 (3.5 out of 5)

I am not going to rate this game that highly although it was still a brilliant AC game. This game had one thing lacking and that was a charismatic assassin. After the highs of Ezio, we had Connor who was not that charismatic.

This the game where Desmond dies. I think it was a blunder from Ubisoft.

    Assassin's Creed: Black Flag (4.5/5)

It was a nice pirate-themed game. Graphics was really good. It was not a proper AC game but it is much better than Odyssey. You have some new features like ship battle, diving underwater and finding treasures, whistling and getting enemy's attention etc. It was based in America and Caribbean region. I give it 4.5 out of 5.

This game had Edward Kenway who was the best assassin (in my opinion) after Ezio.

    Assassin's Creed: Rogue (4/5)

This game was unique because you play most of the game as Templar. Main character Shay Patrick Cormac went from being an assassin to a Templar. This is the only game where assassins lose at the end.

It was kind of unique. I give it 4 out of 5. Only complain is it was short.

    Assassin's Creed: Unity (4/5)

This was basically a love story between an Assassin's son and a Templar's daughter. They became couple despite following two different ideologies. This game was based in France (during the French Revolution). Some stunning scenes and I really liked this game.

The game had some bug problems but I think those bugs are now fixed.

    I give it 4 out of 5.

    Assassin's Creed: Syndicate (3.5/5)

This game was based in UK. You play as both Jacob Frye and Evie Frye. It was probably the final AC game that I enjoyed. It was kind of ordinary but there are some good parts.

    I give it 3.5 out of 5.

    Assassin's Creed: Origins (3/5)

I do not consider it as a proper AC game. It had excellent story and graphics but it was just not an AC game.

Ubisoft replaced "Assassin vs Templar" with "Bayak vs Order of Ancients". Same concept but didn't have that old AC vibe.

I give it 3 out of 5 because of the amazing graphics and some similarities with AC of old.

    Assassin's Creed: Odyssey (1 out of 5)

Didn't feel like Assassin's Creed game to me. It was too childish and perhaps stupid. I give it 1 out of 5. Ubisoft completely lost the plot with this one.

I was obsessed with the series up until 3 came out. So much so that both my psn id and xbox gamertag have “ac2” in them because of how much I loved it when it came out.

Assassins creed 1 is underrated. It is very flawed. The missions are repetitive and the mechanics are wonky. However, I thought it had the best setting and addressed a topic in history that very few games or movies do. Also it was one of the few where you truly felt like an assassin because each mission was based on gathering intel etc to take a target out. Would love to see an assassins creed game that is a refined version of 1. Might get me back into the franchise

Brotherhood was good but that’s when the cracks started to appear.

    Revelations was mostly a mess

3 was good when it came to addressing native Americans etc but I wasn’t a fan of the hub area. Was a pain to traverse. This is when the series died to me.

4 was a late high point in the series but wasn’t good enough to get me back into it.

I recently went back to assassins creed 2 and even that hasn’t aged too well especially compared to some of my other favourite classics.

I am a bit surprised to know that you found Revelations to be a mess. Why though?

I found Revelations quite alright. Revelations had:

    1) It was the last time we saw Ezio in a game. Ezio basically retired after this game.
    2) You get to play as Altair for a few missions.
    3) Ezio meets Altair's corpse and we have a great ending. This is the one I am talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hw86GANf8mw.

I thought it was quite good compared to some of the junks Ubisoft released lately.

Why did you not enjoy Unity? Is it due to bugs?

Unity was a bit short but other than that I liked the story.

No not cause of the bugs, I played it long after it came out.

Just didn't think much of the story.... actually it made no sense to me.

Arno was consumed about finding his adopted father's murderer but never gave two ***** about his real father being murdered. Also the whole Assassins supporting the corrupted nobility while the Templars were supporting the revolution, when in the trailer it seemed the opposite and contradictory to the entire premise of these two groups. There was some other aspects with the story I didn't like among others.

Biggest gripe with the gameplay was how ridiculously difficult stealth was compared to the previous games, I had a difficult time getting 100% sync because I always target that for the missions. It was like the slightest movement/noise alerted them to where you were, heck they even took away the godamn whistle so imagine how hard it was to get someone to come to a cart you were hiding in. With Syndicate at least you had the grappling hook gun which made moving around fun and quick and I also liked the extra side quests you could such as conquering territories etc.

But I will say Paris looked gorgeous and they did an amazing job on recreating it to the minute details

Just didn't think much of the story.... actually it made no sense to me.

I agree with you that story didn't have the depth that Ezio Trilogy had.

Regarding game play, whistle was definitely missing. It would've been better had they added that feature. Also, they placed too much emphasize on Arno-Elise love story. They should've focused more on Assassin-Templar duel. I would've loved to see Arno killing Shay (the guy who killed his father) and avenging his father's death.

This is not from AC games. It is from a short film named Assassin's Creed: Embers. It shows the final days of Ezio.

One of the better (and most modern) Assassin's Creed games is free right now. As part of Epic's weekly free offerings on the Epic Games Store, 2015's Assassin's Creed Syndicate is up for grabs at no cost to you. If you slept on it, give it a whirl.

If you're getting a sense of déjà vu, that's because we already told you about this earlier in the week. But, it's actually live now, ready to be downloaded and enjoyed. A little nudge never hurt anyone. (Also, think of all the poor souls who don't read every single article on Destructoid. They deserve a second chance at a heads-up, even if they're monsters.)

Let's double down on the PSA. While you're at it, deck-building strategy game Faeria is also free. Want a triple dose of intel? Next week, heady cosmic exploration game InnerSpace is free. It's described as "A game about exploration, about player-driven moments both small and grandiose. Take your time, soar through the skies and dive through the oceans, and the secrets of the Inverse will reveal themselves." Quite the whiplash from stabbing thousands of Englishmen through the neck.

    Nice list.

I liked Rogue but I wish Shay didn't become a Templar. That was disappointing.

I hope that Assassin's Creed will go back to what it was. They are trying to change it too much.

I liked Rogue because Shay defected to the Templars lol.

The Assassins are the good guys in most Assassins Creed games, but in Rogue, the Assassins were the bad guys. Their greed for power led to death and destruction in Lisbon.

I wouldn't call Templars good guys in Rogue. They also wanted control and power. Haytham was a cunning snake.

Assassins made a blunder in Lisbon but Shay shouldn't have betrayed like that. He was a traitor.

Shay also killed Arno's father in the end. That was cruel.

My most favorite AC game is Black Flag.

I know it was pirate-themed but story was good and it was also long enough.

I have finished AC Black Flag 4 times.

Now that I think about it, the Templars might not have been the good guys in Rogue. However, the Assassins weren’t the good guys either.

The Templars and the Assassins are neither good nor bad in Assassins Creed 1 and Rogue. They both want peace, it’s only their methods and mannerism that are different.

I was a big fan of it under Syndicate, but I don't like the direction the game has taken since. A lot of people love Origins and thought the game had to change, but I disagree. I don't like how far down the RPG route they have gone. Origins and Odyssey may be great games, but they are not Assassin's Creed games for me.

My ranking of AC games from AC 2 to Syndicate:
    1) Black Flag
    2) AC 2
    3) AC Brotherhood
    4) AC Rouge
    5) AC 3 (Most underrated game in the series)
    6) AC Revelations
    7) AC Unity
    8) AC Syndicate

I have never played the first AC game, because it is on last gen. They never remastered it for the current gen.

I barely played Origins and didn't play Odyssey at all, as they aren't AC games imo and I have zero interest in playing them.
