"We allowed Misbah to coach Islamabad United as we wanted him to gain some experience" : Wasim Khan

Pakistan's national head coach and chief selector, Misbah-ul-Haq has the full backing and support of the cricket authorities despite his recent failure as a coach in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Misbah, who was given special permission by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to work as head coach of the Islamabad United, saw his team crash out before the last-four stage for the first time since PSL's launch in 2016.

Islamabad who are two times champions did not make the top four in the points table to crash out with just seven points from 10 matches and many critics and experts have blamed Misbah for the debacle. But a senior official of the board said that they are still supporting and backing Misbah.

"Since he took over as head coach we have seen steady progress in the national team's performances in Tests and T20 cricket," CEO Wasim Khan told the media.

"We have full confidence in Misbah even now but as is our policy we will sit down and review his one-year performance after the World T20 in Australia in October," Khan said.

"We will do a complete postmortem of his one-year progress and then reach a conclusion."

He also made it clear that the Board was not contemplating appointing any other coach with Misbah.

"We have confidence in him and that is we allowed him to coach the Islamabad franchise as we wanted him to gain some experience as well in this position."

"You must keep in mind while he is coach of the Pakistan team full-time he only joined the Islamabad franchise few days before the PSL. We wanted it to be a learning experience for him as head coach."

Misbah took over as head coach cum chief selector last September after the PCB released foreign coach, Mickey Arthur and his support staff after the World Cup. In his tenure, Pakistan has won two out of five Tests at home against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh but were swamped two-nil in Australia.

Khan said they were aware Misbah would be disappointed with his performance in the PSL but the Board will be asking him if he needed any other support before the tour of Ireland, Holland, England or the Asia Cup and World T20 this year.

"It is up to him what his planning is for the team but definitely I am sure he and the other selectors would take into consideration performance of players in the PSL when they sit down to finalise teams for the Asia Cup and World T20."

Khan admitted at the moment the organisation of the Asia Cup seemed difficult because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Wasim Khan is full of crap with regards to Misbah. He will continue to use colorful phrases like the importance of showing patience, support with regards to Misbah even if he continues to deliver the same failing results for the next 5-7 years. Misbah looks like a dull personality in front of the camera but the guy must have an alter ego which he shows only behind closed doors to others. It is just unbelievable the amount of luck and support he has enjoyed since 2007 in Pakistan Cricket.

To remove Misbah both Mani and Wasim needs to be removed first. Until any of them stay Misbah will not go anywhere.

That is the reason Misbah suddenly got everything..

Wasim Khan and Ehsan Mani are servants of IK -- Will do whatever IK want them to do..

If Khan felt Misbah needs extra training, why give him a critical role in the first place? Khan is full of crap and should be thrown out along with rest of his PCB cronies.

So Pakistan has to suffer to give Misbah experience!!!! Lucky England didn't give Wasim Khan any position. Otherwise England will end up no. 8 in ranking in 2 years.

    His team finished bottom.

Should the PCB be experimenting like this?

Don't think the PCB has any stake in which team qualifies in the PSL. This is something the IU management is responsible for.

He can take as many PSL teams to the bottom to his heart's content, just wish he wasn't in a position to do the same for the national team.

So you are admitting that he lacks the experience or qualifications to do the national team job, and you are giving him a domestic apprenticeship.

And he came bottom of the league with that.

The most stupidest thing I have read coming out of Wasim Khan’s mouth.

Can you imagine Cricket Australia chief saying that they allowed Langer to coach some random Big Bash side because they want him to get more experience?

This is international cricket, you take up jobs like this if you are worthy for it. Had Misbah been an interim to a senior coach like Flower, Kirsten, Bayliss then this would have been a sensible statement. We are not a club team!

Seems Wasim Khan needs more experience before he should be allowed to take up a role as CEO on a cricket board.

The most stupid thing so far-----------, the person who can appoint Misbah, you can expect any level of stupidity from him, who knows, the worst is yet to come.
