India need a swing bowler like bhuvneshwar for the day/night test. That's assuming it will be swinging conditions.

The day night test when pakistan played had a pitch which was no less of a road than the usual aussie pitches.
Bhuvi would still not have been a bad option

Sachin Tendulkar (in PTI) "Smith's technique is unconventional, we tell a bowler in Test to keep around off-stump/4th stump but Smith as he shuffles it moves further 4/5 inches - aim between 4th & 5th stump. He needs to be tested there & keep him in backfoot, induce the mistake".

I don't think that being in the test squad really matters.
Also, ishant and rohit are unavailable so pandya can replace them in the squad.

Actually, Ishant and Rohit were not selected in the squad at the first place. It was when Kohli decided that he will be leaving Australia after first test, they thought that Rohit will be fit by then so he will come in place of Kohli and no need for addition of any extra player.

But now that it's confirmed that Rohit and Ishant are not in squad, Iyer is basically a replacement for Kohli in test.

This whole Rohit issue is looking weird. Some news channels are saying that there are two camps in the Indian team, one led by Kohli and the other led by Rohit. I know this is just gossip created by the rumour mills, but I sincerely hope that whichever XI plays, plays like a team.

The BCCI has reportedly asked Cricket Australia to relax quarantine rules for Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma so as to make them available for the upcoming Test series in Australia. Both Rohit and Ishant are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

According to various media reports, the duo will miss the first two Tests considering the time required for them to be match fit. Additionally, the strict quarantine rules mean they will be unable to train for 14 straight days even if they fly down to Australia now.

This has also put further question mark over their participation in the remainder of the two Tests as well.

“BCCI is in talks with CA, which in turn is negotiating with the Australian government about a relaxation in the quarantine rules (for the two players). If the rules are relaxed, then both Rohit and Ishant could be available for the (second) tour game,” The Indian Express quoted a BCCI official as saying.

India head coach Ravi Shastri on Sunday had said that for Rohit and Ishant to be part of the Test series, they will have to fly out in the next three-four days. He was apparently referring the timeline so that they will be able to participate in the tour games to prove their match fitness and get some game time before the Tests.

While the BCCI official said it’s not mandatory to play practice matches before a Test but it’s ideal.

“It’s sort of not mandatory. At the same time, for a Test series in Australia, ideally the players should have match practice before going into the Tests. It’s difficult to directly go into the Test series. Then again, this is a call to be taken by the selectors and the team management. The BCCI doesn’t interfere in those matters.” the official was quoted as saying.

Rohit and Ishant have only been selected in the Test squad after suffering injuries during the IPL 2020.

While Ishant was ruled out of the entire season due to a ribcage injury, Rohit ended up missing several matches after hurting his hamstring before making his return for the playoffs and the final.

Bhuvi is a world class bowler. He is actually very underrated. Go look at his test figures. Plus he can bat well too.

Bhuvi had he played in England last time, India would have won the series even after losing tosses.

A rapidly grown pace battery and presence of impressive Test performers in the Indian side and comeback of David Warner and Steve Smith in the Australian camp will make it a hotly-contested series between the two nations, says Pakistani great Waqar Younis.

India’s Australia challenge will begin on Friday with the first ODI in Sydney.

Waqar said Australia will come hard at India as they must be still hurting from the defeat in the 2018 Test series at home.

“Australia are playing at home and have developed a good pace attack and with David Warner and Steve Smith back they appear to be very strong but India also has some good pace bowlers who have come up rapidly and they bowled well on their last tour to Australia,” Waqar told a YouTube channel.

“The Indian batting is also pretty impressive with some notable test performers like Pujara and Rahane so I expect good contests.”

But the former captain has no doubt that the absence of Virat Kohli after the first Test in Adelaide and Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma missing at least the first two matches will make difference to Indian chances of winning the series.

Kohli will be on paternity leave after the Adelaide Test while Rohit and Ishant are yet to recover from their respective injuries and will join only after the second Test of the four-match rubber.

“Rohit is a top act while Ishant has a lot of experience and wickets behind him and they can’t make it for the Test matches, India will feel their absence,” he said.

Rohit in tests i am not sure about but he would be good at number 6. I believe he averages above 40 at 6.

But in all seriousness I wish ishant could play. We need his type due to the bounce he creates with his height.

Next to zero chance the government will accept the request. If they were coming from a biosecure bubble like the rest of the players then they may have considered it, but Rohit and Ishant are coming from India, where Covid is rampant.

Thing is CA cannot relax the rules- these are govt mandated rules required to even host the games. It's not CA running the countries borders & the states COVID management, it is govt & health authorites. CA has no sway there.

I don't think there can be any relaxing, Oz is one of the strictest in the world on this. Comparable to Singapore.

The loss of Kohli + Rohit + Ishant involves losing a total of 97 years between them.

It’s actually going to rejuvenate a very old team which has lost every series that it has ever played against full-strength opposition in SENA (apart from one shared 2 Test series in SA.)

    Shami is still 30.
    Ashwin is still 34.
    Pujara is still 32.

The catastrophic tour to NZ earlier this year showed that India needed to transition to a younger side. But it needed to be an orderly transition, not this last minute chaos.

Yea dude. We are going to lose 3 - 0. I think India should just quit now. It's impossible to win without those 3 players. should just give up and go home.

Btw Aussies never ever beat a full strength India in India and neither did any other SENA nation post 90s.

There was one in 2001 when India lost to s.africa but that was a weak lineup at the time.

Rohit in tests at number 6 would have been handy but it's not the end all be all.
    Ishant is a humongous loss.
    Kohli is a huge loss.

Why bring sandpaper? They are lucky to not be banned for life. Ofcourse I wouldn't want them banned though as they are quality players.

India would beat a full strength Australian team in India even without Kohli-Rohit-Ishant.

Australia failed to beat India at home just bcoz Smith and Warner was not there.

India’s long-awaited tour of Australia is finally set to kick off with the first ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday. Australia will be keen to exact revenge for their series defeat to India the last time around. Besides India’s historic 2-1 triumph in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during their tour in 2018-19, India also secured the ODI series 2-1 and the drew the T20Is 1-1. It was the first time that Australia did not win a single series on their soil against India and it’s a trivia that sits very prominently on captain Aaron Finch’s mind.

Also Read | Virat Kohli on verge of achieving huge milestone in ODIs

Another huge aspect to the India-Australia is Virat Kohli. The India captain will be the cynosure of all eyes as he is set to return home after the first Test for the birth of his first child. In all, Kohli has seven innings to make an impact, but while the India skipper would want to make most of his truncated tour, his counterpart Finch will look to spoil the party for Kohli.

Also Read | ‘At least they’ve got a very good replacement captain,’ Ian Chappell calls India’s stand-in skipper ‘positive, aggressive’

However, having shared the dressing room with Kohli recently in the IPL 2020, Finch is aware there isn’t much he can do to stop a batsman of Kohli’s calibre, whom the Aussie captain believes is probably the ‘best one-day player of all time’.

“If you look at his record it’s second to none. “It really is remarkable. I think what we have to keep in mind is that we have to keep looking to get him out,” Finch said ahead of the first ODI.

“When you go away from that and you look to contain players you can miss a trick there. There’s not too many chinks in his armour. He’s probably the best one-day player of all time so it’s about sticking to our plans and being really committed in that regard.”

The presence of quality, in-form all-rounders such as Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh and others impresses Finch as it gives the Australia captain plenty of combinations to work with.

“What Maxi’s shown in T20 cricket in particular is his bowling keeps improving all the time. I think Marcus Stoinis has proved that as well with the amount of exposure he’s had over the past couple of years bowling at the death, it’s really important for us and it gives us a lot of flexibility in there,” Finch said.

“In England we had the three allrounders with Mitch (Marsh) so you can dissect the 10 overs a little bit easier, I guess. You’re still expecting when that fifth bowler is, or the combination of allrounders are, bowling that minimum 10 overs that they’re still having an impact on the game.

“It’s not about picking allrounders just for the sake of it, it’s also a key bowling spot as well.”

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added T Natarajan to India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia starting Friday.

Navdeep Saini complained of back spasm and Natarajan has been added as a back-up.

India’s ODI squad: Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Mayank Agarwal, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur, T Natarajan.

    Update on Player Fitness

    1. Mr Rohit Sharma – He is presently undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. Mr Rohit Sharma’s next assessment will be conducted on December 11th following which the BCCI will have clarity on his participation in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Mr Rohit Sharma had to come back to Mumbai after the IPL to attend his ailing father. His father is now recuperating well and that has allowed him to travel to the NCA and start his rehabilitation.

    2. Mr Ishant Sharma – Ishant has recovered completely from his side strain injury sustained during IPL 2020 in the U.A.E. While he’s building up his workload in order to achieve Test match fitness, Mr Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

INDIA FINED FOR SLOW OVER RATE IN THE FIRST ODI AGAINST AUSTRALIA

India players have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Australia in the first ODI in Sydney on Friday.

David Boon of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Virat Kohli’s side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Kohli pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Rod Tucker and Sam Nogajski, TV umpire Paul Reiffel and fourth umpire Gerard Abood leveled the charge.

India fined as Warne laments 'all-time low' at SCG

India's players have been fined 20 per cent of their match fees for Friday's slow over-rates, with Adam Zampa suggesting the tedium was not a good look for the game.

Aaron Finch's side secured a 66-run victory at 11.09pm AEDT on Friday night, almost an hour beyond the expected finish.

"It felt like it went all day. That was the longest 50 overs in the field I've ever had," man-of-the-match Steve Smith said.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) changed its rules last year, ensuring captains are no longer issued demerit points and put at risk of suspensions for slow over-rates.

Instead, the governing body now has the power to fine entire teams, with India's punishment the fourth ODI match in a row they have copped such a penalty.

In a statement on Saturday, the ICC said India were only one over behind when allowing for stoppages.

That came despite their bowling innings finishing more than 30 minutes late.

Test great Jason Gillespie, who has previously proposed in-game run penalties for tardiness, was among those suggesting on Friday that more needs to be done.

Legend Shane Warne, commentating on Fox Sports during the match, opined that "over-rates in all forms of the game are at an all-time low ... they (the ICC) have to come down hard".

Zampa, who snared 4-54 to help put Australia 1-0 up in the three-match series, agreed "something definitely has to be done about it".

"From a viewer's point of view, it's not the best look for the game," Zampa told reporters.

    "It will definitely improve.

"Hopefully after getting those cobwebs out and getting those miles in the legs, you'll see some more intensity in the next two games."

Protesting pitch invaders resulted in a short delay during India’s fielding innings, which would have considered when the punishment was handed down.

"It does take a long while to get back in the swing of things, particularly in ODI cricket," Zampa said.

"If you haven't played for a while the intensity isn't quite there."

Virat Kohli's side and the majority of Australia's XI recently took part in the Indian Premier League and subsequently spent a fortnight in hotel quarantine after the Twenty20 tournament.

Players were given permission by NSW Health to train once a day during those two weeks but were otherwise locked in their respective hotel rooms.

The three-match Dettol ODI series continues at the SCG on Sunday.

D'Arcy Short joins Australian squad for Dettol T20I SeriesExplosive opener D’Arcy Short has been officially added to the Australian men’s T20 squad, replacing David Warner who injured his groin in last night’s second Dettol ODI game.

Short has been on stand-by and training with the squad since flying from Perth to New South Wales following the COVID-19 outbreak in Adelaide.

The BBL’s leading run scorer in 2017-18 and 2018-19, Short has been brought into the squad as a like for like left-hand power opener for Warner.

Warner will miss the last match of the Dettol ODI Series and the three Dettol T20 Internationals with the groin strain, while fast bowler Pat Cummins will sit out the remainder of the white ball matches.

Coach Justin Langer said Warner would use this time to recover while Cummins would have a short break ahead of preparing for the first Vodafone Test against India in Adelaide.

“Pat and Davie are critical to our plans for the Test Series,” men’s Head Coach Justin Langer said.

“Davie will work through his injury rehab and in Pat’s case it is important all of our players are managed well to keep them mentally and physically fit throughout what is a challenging summer.

“The priority for both is being fully prepared for one of the biggest and most important home Test Series we have played in recent years, especially with World Test Championship points up for grabs.”

While Short will replace Warner, no direct replacement has been made for Cummins at this stage. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis remains with squad and is continuing to recover from side strain suffered in the opening Dettol ODI game.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will not join the Australia A squad as he continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury sustained while playing in the IPL.

Marsh will now make his comeback with the Perth Scorchers in the BBL. He will not be replaced in the Australia A squad.

MELBOURNE, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Marnus Labuschagne is ready to step up in David Warner’s absence and open the batting for Australia in the remaining white-ball matches against India if called upon.

Labuschagne scored 70 off 61 balls batting at four in Sunday’s 66-run win in the second one-day international in Sydney but the night was soured for the hosts with a groin injury to Warner.

Warner scored 83 to help Australia seal the series 2-0 after having made 69 in the first ODI on Friday.

“He’s been a massive part of us winning this series and it is not great that we’ve lost him but like anything, it provides an opportunity for someone else to step up in the top order and make runs,” Labuschagne told reporters on Monday.

“Certainly, if I got asked to open the batting, absolutely it’s an opportunity that I would enjoy doing. But we’ll have to wait and see.”

Australia will be sweating on the results of scans to Warner’s adductor muscle ahead of the first test against India at Adelaide Oval from Dec. 17.

His absence would open the door for young talent Will Pucovski to debut with incumbent opener Joe Burns.

Burns has had a run of low scores in the domestic Sheffield Shield but Labuschagne, who bats at three in the test side, backed his Queensland team mate to rise to the occasion if Warner remained sidelined for the tests.

^^ Someone here is so much obsessed with kohli I think the same person who thinks babar, ( who has 3 ODI & 2 test centuries against top teams compared to Kohli's 20 ODI & 18 test centuries against them) is the best player in the World

It's not like kohli can't score against good bowling attack. He has already proved himself against even more quality attack in South Africa and England in 2018.
And smashed Johnson&co when he was around 26.
And Scored a century in Perth in 2018 against Starc, Cummins and Hazzelwood on even more a difficult pitch where both teams struggled to reach 250.

The actual post was about Australia's lack of fast bowling option. You are so obssessed with Virat that you can only see this.

On topic, impressed with Green's bowling. His bowling is more than capable for an all rounder in Tests.

Kohli also had the best Indian bowling attack though. Dhoni never did. Although Kohli created the pace attack though by changing fitness standards. He deserves credit too.

Still think if Dhoni had this pace attack i.e Shami bumrah and Bhuvi plus pandya and jaddu then they would have probably won 2015 world cup too.

Very true. That's why India were king's on slow wickets and Turner's. King's on Pattas but struggled on bouncy wickets in odi at the time under Dhoni. Although to be fair we only lost to Australia in 2015. So we did very well even there under Dhoni
