Ferran Torres: Man City winger explains Valencia departure

New Manchester City winger Ferran Torres says he left Valencia in part because they would not make him captain and one of their highest-paid players.

Torres, 20, said he was "excited and happy" to join City, after completing his £21m move from the La Liga side.

"I wanted to stay and I put forward the conditions to do so. They weren't above the club's means," he told Marca.

But the Spaniard added he was "sad" to leave Valencia and "very grateful" to the club he joined aged seven.

Torres said as well as asking for the captaincy and a wage increase, he also wanted Valencia owner Peter Lim to be involved in any talks over a new deal with them.

"I wanted two of the three, but none were fulfilled," said the Spain Under-21 international, who revealed he did not have a good relationship with current Valencia skipper Dani Parejo.

"I know they're not in the same position as big European clubs, but I was able to lead that project and wanted to be treated as such."

Torres said he had more "peace of mind" about the move to the Premier League after speaking to City manager Pep Guardiola.

He said he started to think about leaving the La Liga side after helping Spain win last summer's European Under-19 Championship.

"The club told me personally they weren't counting on me," he added.

"They literally said I was the fifth winger in the squad, that reinforcements were coming and other players from other positions were ahead of me.

"It was a very hard blow for me, but what was worse was that they even put me on the market and offered me to teams in Spain."

Manchester City have signed Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake for £40m.

The Netherlands international, who has agreed a five-year contract at Etihad Stadium, described joining Pep Guardiola's side as a "dream".

"Pep is a manager admired across the world. What he's done in the game speaks for itself," said 25-year-old Ake.

"The success he's had is unbelievable and the style of football he plays really appeals to me."

It is understood there is an additional £1m in add-ons as part of the deal.

Ake becomes City's second summer signing following the £21m arrival of Valencia winger Ferran Torres, 20, on Tuesday.

Ake joined Bournemouth in 2017 for a club record fee and made 121 appearances.

'Ake fits Guardiola template superbly' - analysis
    BBC Sport's Simon Stone

One of the obvious reasons why City lost the Premier League title to Liverpool was their failure to sign a replacement for Vincent Kompany.

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/53672152

It is significant that after the 3-2 defeat by Norwich on 14 September, Guardiola's two most experienced central defenders, Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones, did not start another Premier League game together until July.

Both stayed on the bench throughout the rematch with Norwich, when 19-year-old Eric Garcia started, before being replaced by Fernandinho at half-time.

It is a prerequisite for Guardiola that his defenders are able to take passes in tight situations and trigger attacks. Ake fits this template superbly.

He is also good in the air, which is one of 35-year-old Fernandinho's weaknesses after he was pressed into service in the makeshift role as Stones or Otamendi - and sometimes both - were ignored.

It might not be the end of the spending either, with more defensive reinforcements anticipated.

Inter Milan are set to complete the permanent signing of Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez in the next 24 hours.

The Chile international, 31, joined the Serie A side on a season-long loan in August 2019.

He scored four goals in 29 appearances in all competitions.

Inter expect to have him available should they progress to the Europa League 'final eight' in Germany by beating Getafe on Wednesday night.

The precise terms of the deal are unknown but is almost certain to have involved United taking a significant financial hit.

Sanchez played 45 games for United after joining from Arsenal in 2018, scoring just five goals.

Willian has confirmed he is leaving Chelsea, with Arsenal close to completing his signing on a three-year deal.

The 32-year-old leaves Stamford Bridge at the end of his contract after a seven-year spell, with Chelsea only willing to offer him a two-year deal rather than the player's desired three years.

He wrote an open letter to fans confirming his exit following Chelsea's defeat to Bayern in the last 16 of the Champions League.

"They were seven wonderful years. In August 2013 when I received the offer from Chelsea, I was convinced that this was where I had to play," he wrote.

"Today I am certain that it was the best of decisions. There were so many happy times, some sad, there were trophies and it was always very intense.

"Yet, beyond the trophies, I learnt a lot about myself. I developed a great deal, becoming a better player and a better person.

"With each training session, with each game, with every minute spent in the dressing room, I was always learning.

"I am really grateful to the Chelsea fans for the affectionate way they welcomed me at Stamford Bridge and their support throughout my time at the club.

"There was also criticism, which is normal, what is important though is that both the affection and criticism drove me to always give my all in every training session, every game, to be constantly improving until my very last minute in a Chelsea shirt!

"The time has now come to move on. I am certainly going to miss my team-mates. I will miss all the staff at the club who've always treated me like a son and I will miss the fans.

"I leave with my head held high, safe in the knowledge that I won things here and always did my best in a Chelsea shirt!

"My heartfelt thanks go out to all of you and God bless you!"

Arsenal moved into pole position to sign the Brazil international by offering a three-year contract earlier this week, and are on the verge of beating off competition from Barcelona and Inter Miami.

Along with the length of the deal, joining Mikel Arteta's rejuvenated side and the chance to work with fellow Brazilian Edu are the reasons Arsenal are favourites to secure Willian's signature.

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has insisted he will have no hard feelings if Willian leaves the club.

"It actually doesn't matter about disappointment from any party in this situation," said Lampard, ahead of Chelsea's Champions League tie against Bayern Munich on Saturday.

"I haven't got an answer for you (if Willian will leave) first and foremost, because Willian remains our player at the moment.

"In terms of being disappointed, certainly as a club I think we have done everything we can to explain to Willian, and mine and his relationship is really close."

Willian made 47 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions and finished the season in fine form, with four Premier League goals after the restart taking his tally for the season to nine.

"Willian wants one big final contract - ideally a three-year deal to take him to 35. Chelsea would like to keep him, though they're not going to offer him three years.

"At the moment, it looks like Arsenal is his most likely destination but he is a free agent and at his age, realistically, you're likely to go where there is the most money and longest contract on offer.

"He's got a great injury record so his agent will be saying, 'Don't worry about his fitness'."

Arsenal's pursuit of Willian comes as they attempt to seal a new deal for captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is understood to be close to extending his contract, which is currently set to expire in the summer of 2021.

Aubameyang, 31, scored 22 goals in the Premier League last season and netted twice in Arsenal's 2-1 win over Chelsea in Saturday's FA Cup final.

Since his move to Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, he has scored 54 goals in 85 Premier League games.

The news of the Arsenal's offers to Aubameyang and Willian comes after the club made a statement revealing their plan to make 55 members of staff redundant, including international recruitment specialist Francis Cagigao.

Arsenal, who will hold meetings with staff on Friday, said one of the key reasons cutbacks are being made is to "maintain investment in the team".

The summer transfer window will run for 10 weeks from July 27 and close at 11pm on October 5.

Kostas Tsimikas: Liverpool sign left-back from Olympiakos

Kostas Tsimikas says he believes he has joined "the biggest club in the world" after completing a move to Liverpool from Olympiakos.

The 24-year-old has joined the Premier League champions for about £11.7m on a five-year contract and is expected to provide competition for Andy Robertson.

"I'm very happy, I'm very proud to be here," Tsimikas said.

"It's an honour to be here and I will give my best. For me, [it's] the biggest club in the world."

Tsimikas becomes Liverpool's first signing of the summer. The Reds had moved for Norwich defender Jamal Lewis but chose not to meet the Championship club's valuation of the left-back.

    'A perfect fit' - Klopp
Tsimikas, who has three caps for Greece, made his debut for Olympiakos in 2015 and went on to make 86 appearances in all competitions.

He played 27 times in the league last season, securing his first major silverware as Olympiakos won the Greek title.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: "We have watched Kostas for a long time and are really happy that he has joined us. It's the perfect news before we come back together very soon.

"He is a very good footballer with an attitude to win and to compete, and I really like his mentality. It fits perfectly with the mood and the desire we have in our dressing room already.

"Kostas knows from personal experience what is required to challenge and succeed domestically and in the Champions League, and he is ambitious for more - just like us."

If Manchester United fail to land Jadon Sancho, will they look at a move for Watford's Ismaila Sarr?

Sky Sports News' Kaveh Solhehol has an update...

"Gary Neville was so impressed by Ismaila Sarr that he said if United don't get a deal done for Sancho, they should seriously look at Sarr. It think it would take a bid of around £50m to Watford to sell.

"There are reports in France that Crystal Palace want to sign him. He's a player that Liverpool and Wolves have looked at but he's on a long-term contract and Watford, having paid £35m for him, won't sell on the cheap."

David Silva to join Lazio on three-year deal after leaving Manchester City

David Silva is joining Lazio on a three-year deal after leaving Manchester City. The Spanish playmaker is moving on from the Etihad Stadium this summer after 10 years and has decided to play in Serie A for the first time in his career.

The 34-year-old is confident that he has at least another five years left at the top – injuries permitting – and Lazio have given him the long-term security he desired when leaving City.

David Silva has already played his last Premier League game for City but may yet feature as Pep Guardiola’s side continue their quest to win the Champions League, with the quarter-final against Lyon on Saturday.

Last month the playmaker posted an emotional message thanking City fans for their support during his time at the club. “They have shown me so much respect – and respect is the most important thing for me,” he said.

“They have shown me and my family respect wherever we go and then on the pitch too. I am very grateful for all of this. I just want to say thank you to all the supporters, to the club, to the workers here at the club because they have made my life much easier and I am grateful for that. I will be Blue – Blue forever.”

Lazio, who have just finished fourth in Serie A to qualify for the Champions League next season, are confident of renewing the contract of their star striker Ciro Immobili and are in advanced talks to sign Vedat Muriqi from Fenerbahce for €16m (£14.4m).

Declan Rice: Chelsea £50m bid reports dismissed by West Ham

West Ham have dismissed reports they have received a £50m bid from Chelsea for Declan Rice.

Rice is not for sale according to West Ham, and any £50m bid would be laughed off with the club hopeful the midfielder will stay for many years.

The 21-year-old, who played in Chelsea's academy for seven years before being released aged 14, has a long-term contract at West Ham which runs out in 2024 - and the club have the option of extending it by another year.

Rice will return to the club on Monday for pre-season training with the rest of his team-mates.

I think ole said he wants to loan him outside of EPL to gain european experience.

so it was always being second choice to DDG or loan outside of epl, going back to SU was out of the question.

Joe Hart: Tottenham sign former England, Man City and Burnley goalkeeper

Tottenham have completed the signing of goalkeeper Joe Hart on a contract until 2022.

Hart successfully underwent a medical on Monday and will compete with Paulo Gazzaniga for Hugo Lloris' No 1 spot in Jose Mourinho's squad next season.

The 33-year-old became a free agent after his contract came to an end at Burnley at the end of last season, in a campaign where he made just three appearances in all competitions for the Clarets in 2019/20.

He started one match in the Carabao Cup and two in the FA Cup, spending the season as the second choice goalkeeper at Turf Moor behind Nick Pope.

Hart becomes Tottenham's second signing of the summer transfer window, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg having arrived from Southampton for an undisclosed fee.

Hart won the Premier League title twice, the League Cup twice and one FA Cup during his time at Manchester City, but has struggled for form and regular first-team action in recent campaigns.

The former England No 1, who holds 75 caps, was considering a move abroad earlier this summer in search of more game-time.

Hart told The Guardian in May: "I'm totally open. I just want to play at the highest level I can.

"In England, I don't feel I am going to be able to do that. Maybe if I hadn't achieved what I've done in this league I might not be so ready to step away.

"Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have another big chance in England, but it could be difficult."

Hart went on loan to Serie A side Torino from Man City during the 2016/17 campaign.

Meanwhile, Victor Wanyama has joined MLS side Montreal Impact on a free transfer, Jan Vertonghen has completed a move to Benfica, while Troy Parrott and Timothy Eyoma have gone out on loan.

Claudio Bravo: Manchester City veteran goalkeeper leaves Etihad Stadium

Veteran keeper Claudio Bravo has left Manchester City after his contract with the Premier League runners-up expired.

The Chilean, 37, signed a four-year deal at City when he made a £15.4m move from Spanish giants Barcelona in 2016.

Bravo's performances came under scrutiny in a difficult debut 2016-17 season where City did not win a trophy under new boss Pep Guardiola.

Brazil keeper Ederson then arrived in June 2017, leaving Bravo largely restricted to playing in cup games.

In total, Bravo made 61 appearances for City and kept 20 clean sheets.

More than half of his appearances came in cup matches, with Bravo making only seven Premier League starts after his debut season in England.

The Chile international had been signed to replace England's Joe Hart, with Guardiola going back to his former club Barcelona for a keeper who he believed was more suited to his preferred playing style for his team.

However, Bravo faced criticism for his shot-stopping skills and was even mocked by some City fans when he made saves.

"Everybody would like to thank Claudio for his four years at the club and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours," said City.

Allan & Abdoulaye Doucoure: Everton target pair for midfield rebuild

Everton are in talks with Napoli over a deal for £30m-rated midfielder Allan and have renewed their interest in Watford's Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti managed Allan at Napoli and reports in Italy suggest the 29-year-old is set to reject interest from Atletico Madrid.

Doucoure, 27, wants to leave Watford after their Premier League relegation.

Ancelotti is determined to revamp Everton's midfield after they struggled towards the end of last season.

Brazil international Allan is seen as the ball-winning competitor the Toffees require, while Everton - then managed by Marco Silva - had a £30m bid for Frenchman Doucoure rejected last summer.

The Hornets are likely to demand at least £25m for the midfielder.

Despite being an overpopulated area of his squad - including the likes of Tom Davies, Fabian Delph, Andre Gomes and Gylfi Sigurdsson - Ancelotti wants to inject fresh life into the midfield.

The 61-year-old Italian had hoped to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton, but the Dane opted for Tottenham.

Everton director of football Marcel Brands is trying to lower the club's wage bill after several seasons of heavy, and often unsuccessful, spending before more cash is laid out on signings.

Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has joined Nice, while striker Oumar Niasse left at the end of his contract and long-serving defender Leighton Baines retired but Brands wants to cut the squad and the wage bill even further.

It may mean Everton playing a long game before doing deals but it is likely Ancelotti will still want high-profile reinforcements before the Premier League season starts on the weekend of 12 September.

The Toffees had a deal lined up for Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes earlier this year but negotiations, which were moving towards a successful conclusion, were disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic and the 22-year-old Brazilian is now likely to join Arsenal.

They have also held discussions with Atletico Madrid over Colombia right-back Santiago Arias, 28.

Angelino: Barcelona interested in Man City defender

Barcelona are interested in Manchester City defender Angelino.

The 23-year-old Spanish full-back has just returned from a six-month loan spell at RB Leipzig, who reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

He joined City in 2014, left for PSV Eindhoven in 2018 and returned to City last summer after they triggered a £5.3m buy-back clause.

Angelino made 12 first-team appearances for City last season before moving to Germany.

The deal with Leipzig contained a 30m euro (£27m) option to buy and it is understood City would be looking for a similar sum from Barcelona, who are trying to reshape their squad under new boss Ronald Koeman following their 8-2 Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich this week.

The 22-year-old made 32 appearances for Arsenal last season and started the FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.

However, the Gunners are committed to rebuilding under manager Mikel Arteta and have told Maitland-Niles they are willing to listen to offers for him.

No bids have been made yet but it is understood a deal could be put together for an offer in the region of £20m.

Wolves and Newcastle are both understood to be interested in the England Under-21 international, while Everton are also thought to be considering whether to make a move.

Maitland-Niles has been with the Gunners since he was six and has a contract that runs to 2023.

Chelsea close to agreeing Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva deals

Chelsea are close to agreeing deals to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell and former Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva.

Havertz has received interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe but is now set to move to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea close to concluding a deal with Leverkusen that could be worth up to £90m.

The Blues are also likely to add Chilwell to their ranks, with talks between them and Leicester continuing on Monday. The England international is understood to be keen on the move and a source has told Sky Sports News that the deal is "almost there".

While 21-year-old Havertz and 23-year-old Chilwell would add youth to Frank Lampard's squad, Thiago Silva would provide some much needed experience in defence.

Chelsea conceded 54 Premier League goals last season - more than any other side in the top half of the table - and 35-year-old Silva would be expected to help rectify the problem.

Silva is available on a free transfer after leaving PSG. His eight-year stay in the French capital came to an end on Sunday night with defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

Lampard is in the process of overhauling his Chelsea side following his first season in charge, in which he led the club to fourth place in the Premier League and the FA Cup final.

He has already added Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig for a combined £83m and Havertz, Chilwell and Silva now look set to follow.

Everton agree deal for Napoli's Allan & in talks with Real for James

Everton have agreed a £25m deal for Napoli's Brazil midfielder Allan, and are also in talks to bring Real Madrid's James Rodriguez to Goodison Park.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti has prioritised strengthening Everton's midfield and made Allan, 29, who he worked with as Napoli coach, his top target.

Ancelotti has also coached Rodriguez previously - at Real Madrid and also when he was manager at Bayern Munich, where the Colombian forward was on loan.

Rodriguez, 29, has fallen from favour under Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu but Ancelotti remains a huge admirer and the player also had a close working relationship with the Italian in Spain and Germany.

It remains to be seen whether the deal is on a loan or permanent basis but it will certainly involve a payment from Everton to Real Madrid.

Everton remain in talks with Watford for midfield man Abdoulaye Doucoure but the Hornets' £30m price tag may prove prohibitive.

Ancelotti had set his sights on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg but Everton backed away from a deal when the Dane made it clear he wanted to join Tottenham from Southampton.

He will be delighted, however, to get a deal over the line for a player he was determined to bring to Everton, and at a manageable price after Napoli originally demanded £40m.

Everton have agreed a deal with Napoli for Allan. The Brazilian is likely to cost at least £22.3m, with the fee expected to rise with performance-related bonuses. The Premier League side have already agreed personal terms with the defensive midfielder, who is due to complete his medical this week.

Carlo Ancelotti is keen to revamp his midfield after an underwhelming season in which Everton finished 12th, 10 points from European qualification.

James Rodríguez is another name that could be added, with Everton in talks with Real Madrid, who see the Colombian as surplus to requirements having not played a league game for Zinedine Zidane since October last year.

Rodríguez, who signed for Real for a reported £63m in 2014 after a successful World Cup, is 29 years old and could be keen to join Ancelotti, under whom he played at both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

On Sunday, Everton signed Michael Keane to a new five-year contract, rewarding the defender’s end-of-season form which led to his inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s England squad last week.

Fulham have signed Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina on a season-long loan deal. The 26-year-old spent the bulk of last season on loan at Galatasaray, but will now return to Premier League action. The deal contains an option for a permanent move for the Gabon international at the end of the loan agreement.

Everton are hopeful of completing an ambitious deal worth more than £20m for Real Madrid and Colombia forward James Rodriguez by the end of the week.

The 29-year-old played under Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti at Spanish champions Real and Bayern Munich.

Rodriguez, who has been marginalised under Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu, has been allowed to miss pre-season training to sort out his future.

It would be Ancelotti's first major signing since become boss in December.

The Italian has been the driving force behind the deal, with Rodriguez, who is entering the final year of his contract at Real, attracted by the idea of working with the Italian once more.

A three-year contract is under discussion as Everton look to pull off a transfer that would be regarded as a major coup and a powerful statement of intent as Ancelotti moves to reshape a side that finished 12th last season.

Everton have also agreed a deal with Napoli for 29-year-old Brazil midfielder Allan which is expected to be confirmed shortly. The Italian club's chairman Aureolio De Laurentis has already said: "We are at the final farewell. Allan will go to Everton."

Ancelotti made Allan a priority after working with him at Napoli while discussions are continuing with Watford over a deal for Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The French midfielder is believed to be keen on a move to Goodison Park but Watford are holding out for about £30m for the 27-year-old.

Everton have signed Brazilian midfielder Allan from Napoli on a three-year contract for a fee believed to be around £21.7m.

Allan is Everton's first signing of the summer and the move reunites him with former Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti.

"It is a real pleasure to sign for Everton. I am immensely happy to be here," said the 29-year-old.

Everton are also closing on deals for Watford's Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez from Real Madrid.

Allan played 61 games under Ancelotti at Napoli, and he says the Italian did "everything possible" to bring him to Goodison Park.

Allan added: "I hope, like I have done in my entire career, I contribute with my performances together with my team-mates and that I put in some great games, great performances and win important things.

"It is a club with a rich history in the Premier League, has real ambition and then there is 'Professor' Ancelotti.

"It is the size of the club and the name of the coach which means you don't think twice about coming to Everton."

Allan made more than 200 appearances for Napoli after joining from Udinese, and played alongside Toffees forward Richarlison as hosts Brazil won the 2019 Copa America.

"A strong part of my game is marking and the desire going in to win absolutely every ball," he said.

"I believe with my desire I can put in really good performances to win the fans over. I received a lot of messages from Everton fans and that made me really happy and confident in the work I can do here."

Ancelotti's side travel to Tottenham for their opening Premier League game on Sunday, 13 September (16:30 BST).

Callum Wilson: Striker set to join Newcastle from Bournemouth in £20m deal

Newcastle United have had a £20m bid accepted for Bournemouth's England striker Callum Wilson.

Aston Villa have withdrawn a higher bid of £21m, with Wilson preferring a move to St James' Park.

The 28-year-old, who has won four England caps, made 184 appearances for the Cherries and scored 67 goals, having joined from Coventry in 2014.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce wants to reunite Wilson with his former Cherries team-mate Ryan Fraser.

Scotland winger Fraser is close to completing a free transfer to St James' Park.

Wilson has one England goal to his name - scored on his debut against the United States in November 2018 - and won his most recent international cap in the 6-0 win over Bulgaria in Sofia in October 2019.

The striker is set to be the latest high-profile departure from Bournemouth following their relegation from the Premier League in July, with Nathan Ake moving to Manchester City in a £41m deal and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale signed by Sheffield United for £18.5m.

Bournemouth remain very keen to bring their former winger Matt Ritchie back south from Newcastle, with finances the big hurdle to overcome.

Fernando Marcal: Wolves close to signing Lyon defender

Wolves are close to signing Lyon defender Fernando Marcal, who has already passed a medical with the Premier League club.

The Brazilian can play at left-wing back and centre back - two positions Wolves are looking to strengthen - and has played 68 times for Lyon, last season's Champions League semi-finalists, since he signed in 2017.

The 31-year-old started the quarter-final victory over Manchester City and semi-final defeat to Bayern Munich, and would become Wolves' second summer signing after they brought in Fabio Silva for a club-record fee.

Marcal began his career at Gremio and Guaratingueta in Brazil and made the move to Europe in 2010, signing for Portuguese side Torreense, and moved to Benfica five years later after a spell with Nacional.

Marcal did not make a league appearance for Benfica despite penning a five-year deal in 2015, instead enjoying loans with Turkish side Gaziantepspor and French club Guingamp.

It was there where he was noticed by Lyon, who signed him three years ago, but he now appears to be heading to the Premier League with a £1.78m move to Molineux all-but confirmed.
